I am one of the few pilots left at my club field that flies glow planes. You really did a great job in this video explaining how to properly setup a kill switch. Thanks
A TD MX I purchased just like yours came already with a female connector soldered to it. The TW MX comes bare, so I'll have to solder on wires. Your video will help me a great deal. I just want mine for SBus connection.
I like getting the ele compensation up/down speed taken from the channel - neat. Now, I want to raise the ailerons a bit (ideally the amount set by a slider) when landing flaps are deployed (to avoid tip stalling a delta wing on a slow approach). I’d also like that to operate at the same speed. Any idea how I might do that pls? You helped me do this on OTX - need help again! (Ps., where is your thanks $ button? You are THE most helpful FrSky chap!) I’m struggling :-(
Just what I was looking for - tks!
@adam_mawz_maas Thank you for your great videos! Question: Is there a way to NOT stabilize the Ailerons but stabilize the Elevons and Rudder Only? I am using the Plus SR10+ and the latest ETHOS version.
I found myself here looking for your thank you button, which seems to have disappeared. I just wanted to say thank you again for the advice on variable weight with a knob over on the forum. But being here, I found this little video which is really good. Great work as usual. Thanks 😊 Grogu

Is Expo used in place of an actual throttle curve function in Ethos? I am not finding an actual throttle curve mode.
No, you have to pick custom instead of expo in the curve when configuring it to get a custom throttle curve
thats what differential is for
Only for elevators & rudder, for ailerons and V-tails, you need per-side rates not differential to achieve this. Differential always affects one side of the surface, not one side of the stick input. per-side rates is one side of the stick input. On ailerons and v-tail, differential dials out adverse yaw (aileron) or pitch (V-tail) inputs. Per-side rates evens roll response in each direction.
Hi Addam it's Tony here, iam having an isue I thought you might be able to help with,I have an x18se with 1.5 on it and iam trying to set up a archer sr8 plus reciver, the reciver has been updated and the sxr luas have been installed on my radio, the modle set up is cool and the lua let's me calibrate the reciver but in the stab screen in the lua it won't let me turn it on,when I try it stays on off for some reason, and the switch on channel 14 to change the mode doesn't seem to work either can you help me thanks in advance
This is probably a firmware to Lua mismatch. make sure you have the latest Lua and the latest firmware versions. Old firmware and new lua or old lua and new firmware won't allow you to enable stabilization (also using Device COnfig->SxR setup with the new receivers will have this behaviour)
Thanks Adam, very clear. In my case X20 RS, once I choose T6, I don't have a value displayed next to it like in the Video. However, at least now I have a decent Flap to Elevator mix. Still looking for a way to reverse (or cancel) my Thrust Reverse (because it is always on and the EDF is sucking air rather than blowing air), then find a way to activate it only on a switch or a momentary switch.
The video is from a pre-1.5 version of ETHOS. SO the display is different from the current version. FOr your thrust reverse, you need to know what channel it is, then setup a Free Mix to control it.
@@adam_mawz_maas thanks a lot Adam ! It was long process to discover the issue, but finally was successful. The only way was to reset the FMS Predator 120A esc (11 beeps), then activating reverse of the esc (4 beeps). Of course it wasn’t that simple. Needed to open the edf and pull out the esc to know the brand and searched for its manual and so on. Now all is good. Thanks 👌
Thank you for this - works great but how do you change the amount of movement of the two Flaps ?
You adjust the flaps in the Flaps Mixer (balancing the flaps should be done by matching your midpoint and endpoints in the Outputs menu, or the new Balance function which should be in ETHOS 1.5.16)
Hi Adam great series on ethos by the way your knowledge of this stuff is second to none. However and yes I’m very new to all this, you set your VARs to ch 14 but and added all the components but you didn’t assign it to work with one of your active channels ie 1-6. Am I missing something here because the way I see it you flip your sc or was it sb switch and it is not assigned to anything other than ch 14.
The VAR is assigned to CH14 because CH14 is Stabilizer Mode for FrSky stabilized receivers running in Quick Mode. I used a VAR mix in the past for this.
I checked many different u tubes for flap to ele. but just found your video and its by far the best one , thanks a million Adam
Glad it helped!
Definitely best I've found also
Great video. I need one for helis

Great video again sir. I need to find videos on creating helicopter setups. FrSky is lacking in this respect.
Bladescraper Designs is doing some work to address that, he's a serious heli guy and ETHOS user.
Hi Adam. I have a new model that I am setting up and now I have 1.5 on the radio. I can’t seem to follow along with the examples shown in this video and was hoping that you can let me know how to accomplish this in the newer version of Ethos 1.5. Thanks
I will be doing a new version of this video later this fall. It's actually WAY easier to do in 1.5
Any updates on the new video for this in 1.15
1.5
Thank you for all the videos and assistance provided on RCGroups. When life returns to a slower pace could you please put together a how to setup/use Advanced Stabilization for things like tialerons and canards. I have run out of stabilized channels in Basic mode and all of my attempts at setting up ADV mode have been a big fail. SRX Stable is all locked out even with SRX Basic set to use ADV features.
That's on my long term project list. I've not used ADV stabilization yet as I find the RBMixer program pretty tough to use
Hi Appreciate all your video help. I have two x 18 one is an x18se I really prefer that to he larger radios. traded in my x20s for the x18s I dont see myself ever going to the larger radios. I do training at our field. I just updated about 6 - x18 radios to 1.5.9 The biggest PITA was getting the audio files working. I may add a video to a little piece of the puzzle that was not so clear. I notice that the wireless menu is gone also the Bluetooth menu is not there as on yours. The bluetooth trainer function is working. Also I dont see a lua script menu as on yours. Im wondering if they are removing some functionality on the x18 radios?
The videos with the Bluetooth menu are on older (1.4 and earlier) firmware. Things got moved around in 1.5 Lua scripts must be installed before they become available, they are all user-added capability. There's no software limitations by model in ETHOS, the only limiter is what hardware is available.
When you set the gain on Spectrum you can lock it So it is the same all the time. Is there a way to lock the gain on frsky
There's multiple ways to do this on ETHOS, the simplest is to use a VAR as the source for the gain channel.
Adam - why don’t you have a TH-cam “Thanks/buy me a coffee/beer” option?
I do! There's a Ko-Fi link in my About section ko-fi.com/adammaas
@@adam_mawz_maas $20 thanks
Why is the audio volume so low when using Bluetooth devices? It’s been reported several times on GitHub, but unfortunately no solution yet.
Hook it up to a air speed sensor
That will work too
That's what I did with two var mixes for the sr8 stabilized receiver but it doesn't work anyone know why?
Make sure your values are in the right order. The 'Panic' mode has to be the highest non-default value or it will not engage reliably
what is the last option in the lua called switch thro what does that do exactly ?
IIRC it sets the voltage differential at which the unit switches between batteries.
i like how you did this but i dont like mixing ele with half flaps/takeoff flaps. i like just using free mix. they really should put slow on these mixes. not sure why they didnt.
They didn't put slow in the flaps->ele mix because if setup correctly, it would actually break things out. NB - Use the Active Condition of the mix or a 3 point curve to zero out the mixer output at half/takeoff flaps.
@@adam_mawz_maas not sure what you mean by "break things out". slow should be an option in these mixes. it pretty much makes these predefined mixes useless for me without it. this is why i use freemix because the option is there. not sure why they chose to leave this option out doesnt make any sense. using the predefined mixes as they are now is no different than using freemix takes the same amount of time but with more options. it would be ideal to have flaps=>ele be the flaps and ele mix on one mix that would make things much more simple and is the reason it should have slow up and slow down. i thought ethos was supposed to be easier than openttx but in reality it is not.
Look forward to your new videos, Thank you for all your help
Glad you like them!
Thank you sir!
You're welcome!
We understand and miss your expert advice. If the internal battery gets low, will it cause a transmiter to go into an emergency mode?
The RTC battery being low will only cause a loss of time, that will affect logfile names and timestamps. The main battery being low MIGHT cause an EM, but if it does do so, it's already so low it's about to shut down the whole radio.
you are wrong i have a archer sr6 and it does not work in the sr6 set up in the wizard, that sr6 is accst the archer sr6 access i tried to use that sr6 and it would not register the rx or bind 1.5 has been nothing but junk
I think you're misunderstanding what the Wizard does and doesn't do. The Wizard configures the mixers for the model. It does NOT affect anything in RF System,. including protocol selection. The S6R and Archer SR6 use the same channel layout (Gain on ch9, Flight modes on CH10 & 11, Panic on Ch12) so if you pick S6R, you will get correctly configured mixers for an Archer SR6. You will still have to configure your RF System menu to bind to the receiver you are using, regardless of what receiver you pick in the Wizard.
It does not work they my archer sr6 I had to go a whole other direction to get it to work lua script work much better and easy
The Lua script has nothing to do with setting up the mixers for the receiver. The Wizard sets up the mixers on model creation, that's it. The Lua script is used to configure the stabilization system in the receiver, for an Archer Plus, TD or TW stabilized receiver. The Archr SR6 is setup using Device Config->SxR, not the Lua script. The Lua is for the newer receivers only.
thanks for this simple video had fighting to get the slow on the elevator mix to work thanks for the info
Glad it helped
Hi Adamn this what i exactly did to get rid of servo cattering. But I get sensor loss voice why? Ty please answere :(
Not sure what would be causing that, unless you have not updated your ISRM module at the same time. YOu need to be on the latest ISRM firmware if you've updated your receivers to new firmware.
@@adam_mawz_maas Firmware is updated on both including rx so sensor loss never happen anymore :) Ty
Thanks. Flight mode is not related to takeoff and landing flaps. It is mainly related to limiting the banking of the plane using the ASX3 (limiting the plane being turned too much or upside down) for experienced Vs inexperienced pilots. It is not clear why you mentioned the flight mode and then programmed the flaps.
You are confusing Receiver Flight Modes (which I usually call Stabilizer Modes) with Transmitter Flight Modes. I am using transmitter flight modes to get multiple independent elevator trim settings, each tied to one flap position.
@@adam_mawz_maas thank you for replying. I am using the term used by Spektrum. Anyways at the end the same results are achieved. I do the same directly through flap’s system menu by assigning a 3 position switch for (flaps up, takeoff flaps, and landing flaps) with an offset by elevator depending on the aircraft characteristics. Thanks a lot for the videos on Frsky. I own both spektrum and Futaba , and I am interested to know more about Frsky to replace my radio master. 👍
When will we get blheli32 lua 😁?
Somebody in the BLHeli32 community would need to write such a Lua.
Hey Adam love your videos, they have helped me out alot, but I won't your opinion on what reciver to use in a glow powered modle please, thank you,Iam using the x18se.
I tend to prefer the TD R6 for glow aircraft I've converted, and the TD R10 for new builds. The only reason I pick the TD R10 for new builds is that it allows you to have SBus or FBus on each port, which is perfect for teh FrSKy XAct and Futaba Sbus servos I prefer.
Thanks Adam I appreciate it
Hi Adam another question for you, when you flip a switch between low rat,mid rate, high rate, the call out get a bit behind the switches,is there anyway to speed the call outs up on ethos thanks again.
Set your switch detect delay to 0.1s in System->Hardware->Switch settings, so it will skip any callouts for positions that you didn't leave the switch in
Is there a way that the idle up stays relative to the low idle trim? Then when you flip the idle up switch you can fine tune your idle with the trim? Does that make sense? lol
If you pick Offset+Default instead of Normal when setting up the High Idle Trim, you will get exactly that behaviour. That makes the High Idle trim adjustable relative to the regular idle, instead of independent.
@@adam_mawz_maas awesome thank you for the reply. I’ll look into this. The way you describe in your video, if you have a curve set up the curve changes relative to the where the trim is set. So when I hit high idle. My whole curve moves upward. I instead I used vars and repurpose my throttle trim. Now only the point between where the trim is set (high or low) and the next point on your curve moves. The rest of your curve stays the same. It’s wonderful! Lol can you make a video about that. I think people will appreciate it. I certainly appreciate you🤙
Yes, the solution I describe is just for High Idle, your solution is the way to go if you also use throttle curves
Another great vid thank you. Are you considering covering elrs? Cheers 🤗
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not currently planning any ELRS content, but that may change in the future. I do use ELRS for cars and have been keeping an eye on it in general (I have some of the new Gemini gear from BetaFPV as well)
Thanks Adam 😊
Awesome video!! Very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Will this work with SXR enabled?
Yes
I installed V1.5.3 and no more "VAR" mix in the library. Can you explain please? Thx
IN 1.5.3 the Var mix has been replaced by the more powerful VAR system. Use a VAR as a source to a Free mix to replace a Var mix.
@@adam_mawz_maas Very interesting video. I am a little confused about the new VAR system. Would you give me an example of how to set/override a channel to (-15) for example?
Hi Adam, after your commet about Neuron ESC's (I've got the 40S) I guess it's not a good idea to use 40S with SD1 converter until the low A NeuronII are available
Yes, I wouldn't recommend use of the OG Neurons with the FB receivers, and waiting for more NeuronII's for that combo.
@@adam_mawz_maas thnx
Sorry. What is VAR ?
A Var is a set of selectable, persistently adjustable values that can be used as a source. These replace VAR Mixers and OpenTX GVAR's, but can also do things like create multi-position switches with arbitrary values
Thank You@@adam_mawz_maas
