I want to buy it since its 55% off, but I don't know if it has the fun kind of survival, or if it is just another "scrap mechanic" but in space, where there is a survival but the main game is just a sandbox. I like building what i want, but i would like to have a reason to do it, like automating mineral refineries or something like that, can someone say to me if it is just a sandbox game or if the survival can be fun?
SE is very worth it. Sadly, the PvE element is greatly lacking in this game.
I like your videos. Quick and to the point.
Glad you like them!
I would use a timer block to slowly advance the piston rather than just increase maximum distance, for better granularity; set the piston timer to like 2 seconds and to Turn On/Off the piston, then when the hinge maximum is reached, both trigger now and start the piston advance timer. The trigger now starts the piston extending, and it having started means that 2 seconds later, the piston turns off again.
Good job I will try this
i automatically turn the welders of with sensors so if i get too close to the welder it automatically shuts of so i dont get damaged and if i clear it turns it on again
Whilst this looks a good guide, I have an issue now accessing the refinery/assembler. The only place I can put ores is the Survival Kit, which isn't great for making anything other than basic components.
Am I weird for using connectors instead for my large grid computers? My experience with subgrids, especially on mobile grids, is that clang likes to fiddle with the physics even if rotors and hinges are locked, and pistons have sufficient axis/nonaxis stiffening. And because arguing with Clang pretty much always ends in losing said argument, I've experimented a little with using connectors instead. Looks neat with the newer inset connectors too. I set it into place using LG half blocks around the inset connector, firstly building SG blocks and a 3x3 connector over the gap with some room to work, secondly adding chamfered blocks around the rim of the 3x3 connector, thirdly removing the supporting blocks until you're left with your chamfered 5x5x2 SG connector, and finally... setting the LG inset connector to the forbidden 100% strength (spoiler alert: it kinda just teleports inbetween the half blocks without issue) and locking, not forgetting the parking setting of course. I get that it's a bit more hassle to set up, but you end up with a zero-movement, clang-free, sub-grid-but-not-really system at the end of the day.
The fun thing I've been noticing is that programable blocks are much more managable on a 3x3 rotor head as you can essentially make an entire server room in the space of a 3x3 small grid.
I’m trying to build a player made missile and this is helping alotttt
awesome! simple and effective. ive never really gotten into scripts (and my PC is a dino anyways, so im not sure how well if could handle it anyways), but i like mechanical analog stuff anyways! this is very helpful, especially with all these automation updates. thanks! (also, love the accent! makes it all that much more funny when surprises happen... "why is my demonstration base on fire?" lol)
your space engineers videos on tips and features are so useful and exactly what i have been looking for. short and sweet but so much info to help. hopefully you will make some more
Any update on this one with less PCU usage?
Never press p
@@grifinorange P is the best button, when used responsibly.
@GleebTorin trauma is a helluva thing, i jusr find it easier to map park brakes to a button or a few timer blocks depending on how complex the landing sequence turns out to be. No miatakes possible.
I appreciate this but, for anyone playing on the official servers where pcu limited are 20k. the problem of stockpiling components is best solved by just making a lot of stuff. sorters, assemblers and event blocks for each component is an impossible cost. Of the top of head that's like 1.5kpcu just to solve a minor inconvenience? Your opponents who spend their 20k on offense will have like 16 ish more railguns!! Also scripts, experimental mode, and mods are disabled on official servers. anyone know any low pcu solutions?
@@CanuckNews-fv3qj This really isn't designed for sane play. While it was designed with being able to make it in survival in mind, I never expected anyone to make it. I'm not aware of any lower PCU methods, as the only way to make this sort of thing is by using a lot of parts. Otherwise, it's going to have to be scripts. Let me know if you can improve on it though!
I personally prefer to use sensors for my welder walls and pits to turn them off when it detects a player within the area. That said, it's not always reliable as it may turn off if it detects you in the seat
I use event controllers for power management by switching off reactors and engines when batteries are above 90%, and back on when batteries are below 15% switching batteries for recharge.
Welder wall? I need more videos explaining this stuff. The video was good but kinda vague for each structure. Any longer or more detailed videos?
The event controller when using a controller, doesn’t allow me to make a 2nd action. Like I have hydro engines powering batteries. I want the batteries to go into auto mode when they are fully charged and I want the engines to turn off. Then when the batteries get low enough I want to do the opposite but I can’t get more than one event set.
"Big Boxy Bases may Be a Builders Bane, But By Busting out these tips" Just to appreciate the Beginning Bit
You did not appease the machine spirit
well for the welders.. we just group the warning lights together with the welders so they turn on whenever we use the welders.. we also use rotating lights
its so funny to me that the official ingame AI is worse than what we can do with scripts.
This build makes me appreciate Space Engineers and the production quota mod in particular. I'm still a fan of ISY's for the sorting and pulling but I've since switched to production quota for my autocrafting needs and I love it. This, however, is quite a respectable use of vanilla blocks. Kudos.
I always disable "Use for Parking" for all Connectors
But i love isy's solar alignment
It's a great script, but it's nice to have a system that you can put together without scripts if you need to, such as on console.
Amazing, now I can hook this up to my sorter system and fully organize and automate my base
i would rather want to know how your projection was already alignt with the real deal when i do that its NEVER in the same space and i have to move it...
Great lighting tips. I think they should work well with the new floodlights in Contact DLC.
I forgot that hinges could be used with turret controllers. I was using two rotors for my solar farm. It worked but not as well as a hinge would, I suspect.
They're basically the same thing, so it'll work, but if you want to pip it up, a hinge is gonna give you the smaller connection.
I bought it yesterday, but unfortunately my laptop couldn't handle it, so I returned it.
mfw I dock to an unpowered cargo module and my batteries enter recharge mode.
I'd love it if there was some kind of function that let you hover over a block and repaint every block on the grid with the same color and skin all at once. For example, if i want to repaint my speeder bike, I could just hold down a key combo and repaint every block that is red with the retro future skin to some other color, while leaving the bits that are grey with no skin alone.
There already is! On PC, just hold Ctrl+Shift+MMB to paint the entire grid. It's really easy do by mistake. You can paint a large area with CTRL+MMB, and then you press shift to run, and accidentally repaint your entire grid, so be careful! EDIT: I just saw that you wanted to fill the same colour. That would be awesome! Consider making a suggestion on the Keen Software House website
I can’t even make a damn ship. Now I gotta try this. Looks “EaSy.”
So to you,50m/s is slow? That’s 118 mph! That is COOK’n it! 😱😈🫡
Tip 5 is good from a safety feature standpoint but in my opinion a bit redundant given you could simply have the lights in the same group as the welders so they always turn on when you turn the welders on
@@spinosauruskin Won't help when someone turns the welders on without using the group though
@@GleebTorin True, but I tend to hide basically everything that's part of a group on the terminal menu so you need to use the group
@spinosauruskin Never underestimate the power of someone who just wants to find the welder. 😉
Don’t hit P EVER! Set a switch lock connector on your hot bar
@@Hscaper P works just fine for me! 🤔
@@GleebTorin unless you have other connectors holding things. Best practice is to set the specific one you want or disable all the others used for parking
@@Hscaper Exactly! Not a problem, so long as you set things right :)
Use AI blocks to position "wingman" fighters to the sides and in front of your main ship. These will draw initial fire away from you, and give decentralized fire support.
That was really helpful. Thank you.
"why is my demo base on fire?" 😂😂😂 Classic space engineers
This is ... brilliant! Also, you need to get out more :)
@@StyxRiverGynoid Just because it's true, it doesn't mean you should say it. 😂
Why is their own solution more complicated than the script that does this same thing without a camera
That's a good question, I've struggled to find an answer. I like to think that the complexity in the setup means it's less impactful on your sim speed, but I've never actually tested it.
@@GleebTorin If I had to guess, I'd say that the camera method uses ray casting or something of that description, which who knows, but that has never been very performance friendly.
why no more videos
Life got in the way, but more videos are coming. Thanks for asking, though, it's good to know that people want more!
why does this game label hydrogen as H2 instead of H? I know a lot of things are simplified for game-play reasons, but it's bugging me why they added an extra 2.
Hydrogen atoms are most stable when they share electrons in pairs. Since each hydrogen atom only has one electron, they naturally pair up with another hydrogen atom to form H₂, which is the most common form of hydrogen you'll find. So, while a single hydrogen atom is represented as H, the hydrogen gas used in the game (and in real life) is actually made up of these H₂ molecules.
@@GleebTorin thanks!
how are you placing all the blocks like that by dragging it
Dragging blocks like that is possible in Creative mode. You'll need to hold CTRL for a line, and CTRL+SHIFT to make a rectangle.
@@GleebTorin ahh thanks man
love this video format! the ship event controller is actually super neat, I've been using timer blocks to trigger multiple sequence stuff while docking/undocking, but still had accidents happen now and then awesome tips!
On topic of not dying because of welder wall - add a sensor in welders area it to turn off welders if friendly/neutral player detected
Yeah, but then you don't get to see your friends fry themselves 😂
Love this update
You still need to queue the components in the assembler tho
That's true, but only once. Just enable repeat mode, and you're good to go! Check out more at 1:39.
Oh I thought you had to queue items when the queue was finished, forgot about repeat mode
Thank you for this, you saved us a ton of time and frustration.
