Rihanna has released a few public statements discussing her experience with postpartum hair loss. That’s why she came out with the hairline, it’s a targeted line. It’s calculated, but I don’t see that as a negative. She is reaching a niche market, and then it can expand based on needs. For example, there are plenty of naturals that struggle with alopecia

love the USP reference i was looking for a way to embrace my uniqueness and felt like the more the better in terms of skills (not just physical beauty) for example: an artist singer has to play instruments piano and guitar and dance etc. whereas maybe they are like adele singing is enough, or like beyoncé need dancing, glamour, but no songwriting, etc. We do all have different types of personalities and beauties. and having a USP mindset is great to make sense of why being unique is awesome. thanks for the video.

Bleaching syndrome…wow. I’ll tell you, it has taken me 15 years (since I was 15 years old) so see how bleaching has ruined my skin, to try and fix it and to see my own beauty after factory reset. It’s very difficult. Bleaching can be addictive because you start to think that’s ACTUALLY what you look like

You look so refined and elegant. Very beautiful. I love your hair and makeup. Anyway, I don’t like wigs but I’m not confident with my natural hair atm - not because of texture (I love textured hair) but because it’s not at the length I’m comfortable at. I tried and honestly I cannot. That’s my biggest issue - my hair is growing longer anyway but still some time before I’m happy with the length

I think the topic of colourism in the West is a bit of a complex one. Take media for example, unless you are catering to a specific demographic eg: black audience then you want to use a cast that will appeal to the widest audience possible. Black people are still a minority and let's not even get into the buying power since a lot of tv networks still rely on ads for revenue. You can also look at TH-cam in this regard. You will find that a black creator will tend to draw in a majority black audience. The same goes for Asian, Indian, White etc. And when it comes to ads, sponsors want audiences from countries such as UK and US (those with more disposable income). The colourism in media then bleeds into representation and equity but does anyone take a step back and ask what was the initial goal? To make money/entertain or propagate human rights?

Hey, my fellow Africans, our problem is not lack of imagination, laziness, and religious fanaticism but skin complexion and kinky hair. If we could have lighter skin and straighter hair, all our problems would disappear. Just let that statement sink in for a minute. Seriously, the melanin-rich skin that you dislike so much actually protects you from the sun and helps prevent skin damage that can result in skin cancer. By age 50, melanin-lacking skin begins to look like dry fruit, while dark skin glows.

@@user-ip7ph9vn5r You are right, and I have edited my comment. I should have used "melanin" instead of the "light/dark" expression. My main point of comparison is actually between "black" skin and "white" skin, not between dark skin and light skin Africans, because those groups are naturally melanated for the sun. When people bleach their skin to be lighter, they are stripping away their naturally acquired melanin and that puts them in danger of damaging folate and DNA damage.

I feel bad for the first lady, she ruined her face... I think people are far removed from their cultures and communities and im talking about social media communities but local volunteering church gatherings local neighbors especially in the West, thats why everyone is trying to one up each other in the same small pool of ethnicity when we are all culturally different, biological genetically different. Its a mixing pot that should be respected. But unfortunately everyone wants to look the same, white with small noses big lips, hourglass figures etc. I am Hispanic and not the white kind, im ok with that. I love my color because ill tan not burn and it means my roots are Mexican, Mexican South American Culture is beautiful minus the bad. Its true white folks or even of color want to bash darker skin, their roots their culture for being poor underdeveloped dirty corrupted etc. But the truth is they themselves lack any identity or security within. Thats why they try to bring you down lesser to use their color as a card when it isnt, its shallow af and not worth conversing with. Key is to show confidence in who you are, your pride and love for yourself.

Melanin rich skin is literally a biological evolution to protect people closer to the equator and with greater exposure to the sun from UV rays. People in more Northern regions have less melanin because they have less sun exposure and need less melanin to block the absorption of vitamin D. Understanding our differences on a biological level to me shows the beauty in how our bodies have evolved to protect us.

Isn't melanin rich skin original/indigenous? I don't believe we evolved to be very dark skinned; we've always been this way from the beginning. The features of lighter races are scientifically shown to be laden with biological mutations. They are not of an original, indigenous gene pool.

What I have noticed about a lot of dark skinned women is they tend to overcompensate.... and then look bad as a result. And many who arent overcompensating are totally not trying to even be presentable. Many dark skinned women will not bother to fix their hair when they go out. Or they will wear very unflattering clothing, especially dark colors... Obesity looks less attractive on most people and I think some of my dark skinned sisters, just let themselves go because they think they are unattractive anyway due to their dark skin. Yet you can still look beautiful even when obese. Dark skin is gorgeous. Choose and wear nice clothing (not all this sweat pants and T- shirt nonsense all the time), dont overcompensate with ridiculous lenght of eyelashes... chose blonde wigs that are complementary (not any type blonde wig will fit every skin tone which some of my sisters dont seem to understand and end up looking strange in their orangey blonde wigs) and wear less sweat pants and hair bonnets when going out. Well-put-together dark skinned women are the most stunning women you can see and it tends to shock people when they see such women because the beauty is just that powerful....... I would know..... I am writing from experience. I dont think my dark is ugly. And I get tonnes of compliments every single time I step outside of my door (and inside as well). Many of us dark skinned cuties need to stop thinking "ooh! we are already ugly, so what do we need to try to improve?". We need to see ourselves as beautiful, regardless of black men validating us. Black men will never validate us, because I believe the universe made black women the stronger of the sexes (psychologically, emotionally and psychically I mean) when it comes to black people and so we need to validate ourselves.

I never thought about what you're saying but, it seems to be a viable theory. We also have to remember the tone of the country at this time. Things have been in a state of mental and emotional depression since 2016 and COVID. We all are constantly under the threat of a dangerous bully, an evil entity from which it seems there is no escape. It's difficult to exist when one may be a single parent, can't find a successful and supportive male partner, and afraid for your future in terms of safety and financial stability. All of that plays on our psyche. Having said that, we are all beautiful but sometimes it's difficult when one lives in a toxic environment.
