As an African woman who didn't grow up around white people, I was shocked to find that people out there with African hair hate their hair. I don't get it. We had Indians around, but I never heard any African girl wishing they had Indian hair. In fact, we did not focus on hair at all. It was just hair, and everyone had hair ... their own kind of hair. We did what we did to care for our hair, but no one was judged for showing up with natural hair. Any state of African hair is accepted equally.
@rosa...
The ⚪️ influence is still there so heavily.
I cannot say just how shocked I was of seeing all the weaves of natural hair (that was dedicated to idols) and synthetic hair (which can and does affect the health of many). There seems to be like this image ingrained in the minds of women and men alike...
I went natural for a year and while I loved my 4 c hair, I did not love the experience of having to do extra steps in order for my hair to be presentable on my standards. Every wash day meant I had to stretch out my hair in order to be able to style it with ease. I'm now back to relaxed hair and while It's much easier for me to get the look I want, my relaxed hair is so fragile that it breaks all the time. I'm contemplating going back to natural hair and get it long enough so it's easier to get different looks.
Relaxers didn’t work for me either. My hair was thin & brownish.
Maybe consider heat training natural hair if you prefer the straight look.🤍
This was me few months ago after 5yrs natural. My hair was thriving but boredom and thinking texlaxing would work for me like it did in the past.....biggest mistake. Chopped it off and back to natural now.
Texlaxing is a better option. I’ve been natural for 5 years and thinking of doing it myself.
Hun iv bern natrual for 5 years and my hairs grown. Its my edges im 56 so im stressing over my edges and im going grey but i do dye it..which can be alot more work..
Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, YaYa DaCosta, Amera Le Negra, Lupita Nyong'o and Alek Wek all wear natural hair.
Lauryn Hill is one of the most beautiful and talented Lyrical Rappers of all time.
Afro coily hair is very beautiful and unique, even though she is hard to embrace and manage at times.
@@Tinuola I think it is more wiser to stop relying on celebrity fantasy culture and be a real life inspiration.
Besides, the less they represent natural Afro beauties with natural coily hair, the more exotically rare it makes this group of amazingly beautiful woman. So it kind of backfires on them and their intended agenda.
I have looser texture curls but I love your hair and love seeing 4C hair worn naturally and confidently ❤
Many of us 🖤 love our natural hair; always have and always will.
The negativity started outside the 🖤 community. As well, to gain employment to help sustain the family, the way ⚪️ ppl do their hair was forced on 🖤s which caused lots of hair damage. More sisters are sharing what is healthy for our hair...loving it.
I love my 4c hair but my challenge is detangling. Im learning new ways to make it easy peasy
Same hun x when i detangle my hair i finger comb my hair and i spray my hair with water x
I watch a lot of 4c hair videos. It's a beautiful texture. I have learned how to care for my hair by watching 4c hair TH-cam videos. I love watching StarPuppy ect... Care for your hair, and it will flourish.
Your afro is gorgeous! 💜
Instead of cutting my hair again, I have started going back to the salon,so they can help me take care of it,its getting longer and harder for me to comb
Black women dont wanna accept that wearing straight hair wigs is rooted in internalised anti-blackness.
I always wear 4c hair wigs b/c I'm growing my hair. So I guess you could do that to avoid styling your short hair🤷🏿♀️ prayers up for everyone who's learning to love themselves 🥹🫶🏿🫶🏿
I love kinky wigs too but just find one particular look boring.
I think the challenge is getting used to styling Afro texture or braids more. A lot of us are used to styling different textures, b/c it’s fun.
Thanks for sharing your take🤍
That is not true. Are white women that go to tanning salons anti-white? No. Just because you prefer a more manageable hair texture doesn’t make you anti black.
Absolutely. It makes no sense whatsoever to wear another race's hair texture when our hair doesn't resemble theirs whatsoever.
Oh my God I freakin love 4c hair!!! It holds twist outs so good. I have 4a hair.
Yeah, 4c hair rocks well in twists.🤗
For those that love changing hairstyles frequently, it can be time consuming to style & grow.
@@ladybird491Because just like any other hair texture that you want to style in a certain way, you have to 'manipulate' so that you can achieve desired results...this should be common sense.
As a curly girl (3a) who never wore her coarse hair naturally and always straightened it I can somewhat relate. I wear my hair naturally since 7 months and at first always put it in a bun. Since 1,5 months I wear it open and it felt scary, but also liberating. And for the first time I don’t feel that I am trying to mimic someone else’s style, but just have my own. Still I don’t feel pretty all the time with my natural hair all out in the open. But that is me and I am at a point where I don’t have to be or feel pretty all the time. It’s paradoxically boosting my confidence. Who would have thought?! Not me. But I am glad.
And in regard to representation: Perhaps the change is just coming and you are at the heart of it. I find 4c hair beautiful and special and want to see way more of lt.
I love your hair! It looks so healthy! I just big chopped last year, and I'll just be happy when my twa is finally your length! Lol
Thanks babe! My hair didn’t use to look this healthy, I’m glad the effort I’m putting in is helping. I also blow dry it to give a fuller look.
Rock your twa, it will grow out in no time.🤍
Your hair looks amazing. ❤ I cut my locs back in November. I have 4C hair and I usually wear my hair covered using a scarf and styling it. I can’t style much with my twa but im okay with it.
My family on the other hand is like you cut your hair again as if I harmed them. Sha
Anyways I feel free and happy no matter how others feel. Our perception matters.
😂😂 Family members are always passionate with the hair topic. I’m glad you’re loving your 4c! Thanks for sharing your experience 🤍
Sister. You are a GORGEOUS woman with BEAUTIFUL natural hair. Celebrate your unique beauty and enjoy it. ❤❤❤
I don’t like 4c hair bcz it’s so fragile. If you’re like me and like to try new styles, 4c hair is not it. This hair doesn’t like to be moved. It wants to stay in one spot or it breaks! It’s very demanding! Also it shrinks a lot so you have to work to grow it longer than other textures have to just to show your length. It’s very time consuming. Sorry not sorry. I won’t be pressured by others to love every feature I was born with.
I love that you’re being so honest and staying true to that!🫶🏽 I wish 4c hair didn’t take so much time to care for.
I agree. My 4c hair is past my shoulders almost breast length and still looks so short. That’s why I just wear braids because 4c hair is too time consuming.
I agree. Constantly fighting tangles, frizz, shrinkage and dryness. I’m tempted to tex lax.
Because you’re trying to force your hair to do what it’s not intended to do like force a texture that is not natural to African hair. Watch videos by creators that may help you to feel better about yourself and your hair which God gave you and is naturally growing out o your scalp. I wish you well on your journey of healing.
@@carolinegardner8214 4C hair is intended to frizz and tangle. You can’t blame someone for not liking that. Nobody wants tangled anything. Wires, headphones, necklaces. We constantly have to fight tangles, spending long periods of time and large amounts of money finding the right ingredients and products. There’s nothing to heal you just have to suck it up and accept getting the short end of the stick.
idk i love my natural hair 4c hair! I think you should love yours too your hair is beautiful thick and dense! I think we just put too much
You're beautiful! Enjoy your youth and 4c hair. When you look back on this video 40 years from now, you will understand self-acceptance and self-esteem better.
Thank you for this!!! We need to do away with those notions and beliefs.
The thing is, the other racial groups are and have BEEN getting the representation they need for years! They grew up seeing themselves in movies and music videos! They were conditioned to thinking they are the epitome of beauty! When it comes to us ? The representation is poor and like you said, we will probably never be accepted the correct way until we are properly represented in the media.
that's true. And being represented more in media means black girls should be willing to promote more of our natural features including skin tone and hair texture. But I can't say that's something many BW are interested in?🤔🙄
Listen. I look good in my afro BUT BUT BUT! I'm going to say it! My 4C hair is Problematic! It hurts when I comb my hair! It takes so much time and effort and care to get it to look right. I'm "tender headed" so braids are out. So now I surrender. I've gone back to straightening my hair with a hot comb. I feel much better now. Sorry not sorry. 😂❤😊.Ladies do what works best for you. Good luck.❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing April! I understand what you're saying because I have experienced that too. And I agree that we should do what works for us. However, 4C hair is not problematic.
I find that it hurts when combing out the dry or tangled hair. But it doesn't hurt when I gradually comb it from the tip to the root when the hair is wet and tangle-free. Ultimately, 4c hair is different. It requires a different management than straight hair, and a little time and effort. The more you understand how the hair works, the easier it gets.☺♥
I'm torn. I love natural hair and styles on other ppl, but when I try to duplicate those same styles it doesn't turn out right. I want to love it, but 1, it's mostly gray and I'm only 47, and 2, it's thinning and won't grow in the crown. I'm trying so hard not to perm it. 😢
I have to say, I’m completely shocked. I did not think this was a problem in Sub-Saharan Africa. Wigs, perms, etc are a relatively new thing. How is it that Africa is having this issue when black people are the majority and there should be no euro beauty standard? Here in the states we are told that people unwillingly change themselves because of the euro beauty standards. Africans have been styling their hair for so many centuries and now there is racism/colorism/texturism? Most black people in sub-s Africa are not even mixed like the black people in the states. I honestly thought African beauty standards were the norm there and most people were doing their hair there like they have for thousands of years.
Its society who hates our hair. But i don't carei i get a lot of men chatting to me when my hair is out...when i wear my wigs i still get chatted up...i have 4c hair and its what god gave us x
Go get a hairbotox or a cysteine treatment it will change your life. The result is : Easy, manageable 4c hair and if you want to silkpress it's your way for straight natural life. 🎉 Hope it will help.
From a 4c challenged with her hair to another 😊
The majority of black women on Greys Anatomy or in Marvel films have natural hair. Think Issa Rae in immature. It is already happening.
I love my natural hair it is so beautiful, wash and go is the best. It’s soft and beautiful. This is me and I love it. I don’t wear a mask and try to be who God created me to be don’t be something you are not. I work with my hair I love it. Too many chemicals give you cancer or baldness or something they can’t figure out why you are sick. please learn you have beautiful hair. Your hair is your identity that’s how God made you. So are you questioning God? ❤
I never look or feel beautiful with my natural hair. It’s too short and I’m not beautiful unless I have long hair. I only receive compliments when I wear wigs. My length doesn’t look good with any outfits. I wish I could just cover my head, wear hijab
You remind me Green Beauty channel
It is what it is 🤷🏻
4c is annoying cause your hair shrink od like I now every one hair shrink but 4c shrinks a lot 😂
Here's how I grew out my natural 4c hair after experiencing alopecia: th-cam.com/video/sMYC9ymTH78/w-d-xo.html
We still not letting go right? The past is the past..stop wasting enery on things u cannot control.
4C HAIR IS EVERYTHINGGGG...MY FAVORITE HAIR TYPE TOOOOO BAD ALLLLL THE OTHER RACES ARE IN AWE OF OUR TYPE HAIR...WE SHOULD LOVEEE OUR HAIR
Smh sad….
Regarding represantation, I choose to follow women(controlling what I'm consuming) who have 4c hair and love it. That love and care they have is something you eventually learn because you're seeing it a lot❤🫠
Totally agree! I’ve been following some 4c hair creators that wear their hair and I love the look!
I guess getting comfortable with styling my hair is a gradual process.
