I was there and the Taxi service was UNABLE... to find my address despite the fact I was next to a school...I missed my plane back to the US and had to buy a new ticket + hotel for the night...Tried the day before to make a reservation where they all hang out by the big fountain and NONE would take a reservation for the next morning....the French have no ambition.

Would this be a good place to visit in early Feb? Thinking about Genoa or something nearby like this next month after a 2 week business trip to Florence. Forecast is sunny and high near 50 and low near 30. No swimming but still sunny and beautiful I assume.

'NICE' (Bella Nizza!) , MONACO, MONTE CARLO and CORSICA should have remained with Italy... They will always retain their original ITALIAN ambience...most all the names of cities and towns in Corsica are still in Italian. Doesn't matter if they are in France. Napoleon , Garibaldi, the Grimaldi's, The Medici family of Florence (birthplace of the Renaissance) were Italian. They are cousins no matter what...just the language is different...the French language rose from the ashes of the Roman empire. JOHN CABOT another Italian explorer (real name: JOHN CABOTO) secured much of what is now Eastern Canada for the British. FRANCE has always benefited from having countries like Italy, Spain, Germany as neighbors. OF COURSE WE LOVE NICE...ITS SO ITALIAN!

Coming to Iceland Any thoughts on renting an AWD car instead of a 4WD? The AWD automatically (theoretically) will switch to use all 4 wheels without me having to change it myself. Would this be sufficient? Honestly, we’re not planning on doing a lot of driving, but as you wisely advise, “saving money” on a cheaper car isn’t a great idea! But is AWD generally “enough”? Thanks! You pack a lot to consider into each sentence. I have been thinking about your conclusion for living in Menton, that for you it is too far from the airport and too touristic at its center. You have shown us less touristic cities on the Cote d'Azur but many are even farther from the airport. And those less touristic cities will eventually become more crowded because the world has only one Cote d'Azur. On the Italian side, Genova's airport might be even farther from its neighboring cities than Nice's. Happy go lucky traveling seems the best way to live in this world. Thank you for sharing!

Although it’s been 5 years since I was last there I hope that the SCHATZERHÜTTE (up the road from Bressanone/Brixen followed by a 30-35 minute walk from a parking area at the end of the road & the bus line at PLOSE (late September through middle of May). SCHATZERHÜTTE has apparently survived the Pandemic & serves, those staying there, wonderful breakfasts & dinners & a variety of accommodations are offered but at the pre-pandemic price of around 45 Euros per day. Hopefully costs are not too much higher now but I have not checked yet. The owner, Franz Penthaler (spelling ?) has had this fabulous facility in his family for around 60 years & it is still in operation & well worth staying. The cabins & rooms vary in terms of size & toilet/ bathing facilities. A communal bathroom with showers is available for the smaller rooms. In addition to this the SCHATZERHÜTTE offers a spectacular view of a range of Dolomiten mountains south with the wonderful Mountain PEITLERKOFEL in plain view. Lunch is also available for those passing through & who are not overnight customers. I fully intend on returning in the next year or two.
