That stone in that pendant setting look absolutely gorgeous!!! ❤
WOW I have NEVER seen a Black Sunstone that is FREAKING PRETTYYYY!
That pendant on a chain, a dozen roses, a box of chocolates, a couple of candles, bottle of wine and that soundtrack playing in the background and your all set for a fabulous romantic New Year. 😀
nice stone girl great setting
Lovely, Carlyn. Sorry I've missed out on so many. My notifications are totally up the creek, without a paddle. I'd be proud to wear that!😊❤
She turned out beautiful
Hello Carlyn, I just wanted to say... Thank You so very much, as I got my parcel today and I was completely blown away with what you sent me and your generosity! I'm truly grateful and I really appreciate it as you've totally spoilt me which I was not expecting, so Thank You so much, even though I can never thank you enough!!! You've got an awesome channel with fun, interesting and informative videos which I really enjoy watching and I will always be here cheering you on to greater success!!! Thanks again, kindest regards, Kylie 💖🤗😊
I'm glad it got to you safely and you liked your extra goodies I threw in. You are such a strong supporter of mine and I wanted to show you how much I appreciate you, and giving things seems to be my favorite way to show appreciation. It makes me happy that you enjoy my videos so much aswell. unfortunately it might be a little while till I can post full length videos again, I had to leave some of my video equipment behind when I moved states, and I'm waiting on my dremel and rock collection to arrive in the mail. Not to mention I'm on the job and appartment hunt this month, but as soon as I am able, I'll be back at it. I hope you are doing well and I wish you the best with everything your going through, take care.
@carlynscolorfulcreations I remembered you saying that you were moving, and I was hoping that it was going well for you. Moving is always hectic and tiring especially at this time of the year so, I'm sending best wishes and good luck for finding an awesome apartment, and an amazing job that you love and that pays you really well and that the new move is everything you want it to be!!! I also hope the your dremel and rocks arrive soon but, as I said before; don't worry about your youtube channel as it will still continue to grow and we will all still be here waiting for you when you're ready! Thank you again, I truly appreciate it and I'm more than happy to be here to support you! Mind you, if I stop commenting you'll know that (because of my heart health) that I've dropped off the perch... (Nervous LOL 🥴 ), hopefully that doesn't happen for a long time... but I'm sure my hubby will let you know if that happens. Anyway, look after yourself and take care and sending you all the very best of wishes!!! Cheers, Kylie 🤗
Nice 👍
The patterns are amazing
Very PRETTY! that flash just WOW
Lovely polish and love the big open back setting to appreciate the stone's backside.
Beautiful Tsunstone!
Definitely a stone worthy of a setting like that. That's almost close to being as good as they get, reds blues and greens all in that thing and multiple layers of iron oxide
Beautiful colors
Awesome, I didn't know sunstone could have inclusions like that
Lovely. Apologies for notification not coming. I'll catch up!😊
Whoa !!
Gorgeous! Such broad flash lines to make the lattice in this gem! ❤️It!
Haha the song choice!
Thank you! I love this song, it's "the right combination " by "seventh avenue". two of the members of big fun (1990s) were in seventh avenue before big fun (1970s), so I of course have a soft spot especially since phil creswick is the main singer, what a talented individual.
Oh, excellent! Seems you've worked out a setup. I'm in a similar situation where i don't have space for lapidary equipment. I wonder if there's a rock club near you with a lapidary shop you could learn from. That's what I do anyhow.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I'm actually in the middle of moving states right now, but I'm certain they don't have any lapidary workshops in the area of alaska I'm in now, but I'm so sure when I get down to the continental usa they'll have a workshop somewhere around. Its cool to do work with the dremel because it's cheap, but if I could just pop in to a workshop just to slice up larger pieces, it'd make all the difference in the world. It'd also be nice to meet other people in person that have the same passion for stones that I do. It's been awesome to meet people here on youtube to talk to about rocks and stuff though , and to meet other creators from all over the globe on here to talk to and learn from has been a honor.
The Vikings actually used optical Calcite (clear glass-like calcite) as a compass. They used it to see where the sun is where there were extremely cloudy days. Everything else you said was correct though 😊
Yeah, the website I got my info from maybe wasn't the best sorce. I noticed after posting this video that "viking sunstone" is just calcite with a special name when I was looking into buying some. Thanks for watching and commenting as always, your support Is very appreciated!
Oh! And here's a link to the video that I show my dremel settup, it starts around the 3min mark. th-cam.com/video/hoNMhuxDTbw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PlAaHHC2EBFYDtQe
I have this idea for a bracelet out of orange sunstones that have both the streaks of iron oxide and the moonstone schiller effect, grind out all the cracked/imperfect material and then drill holes through the centers so it is showing both the iron oxide on both sides and then the moonstone effect on the other two sides (hole goes through the cleavage plane that shows no effect or the least visual effects) then polish the stones and feed silver wire through them with silver beads separating the stones, and then torch weld the lockijg mechanism on the ends using tiny pieces of silver. I want to make one but I don't have a good enough torch. Have everything else though. Kind of hard to do metallurgic stuff and cut gems both, it's time consuming for me considering how busy I am. Seems like it's an idea you could use for yourself, though. I figured why only show just the iron oxide streaks when you can show the moonstone effect and the iron oxide shine, both?
This us a great idea! In a geckostones live stream the other week, he was showing off some bracelets kinda like what your describing except the beads were perfect grey spheres. I want to get around to bead making sometime when it feels right, itd be nice to have a tool just for drilling so I can trust the beads. But I really enjoy the orange sunstones and the confetti sunstones, but I've only got one orange sunstone at the moment. If I get my hands on a parcle of orange sunstone and I have the tools, and metal working tools which I have none of, this would definitely be a fun project to start
I have some of similar quality, but the streaks of iron oxide are thicker and they start off gold at the top and then as you look further down the streaks they turn purple, blue, and green. They have some cracks and natural cracks though so I'll be freeforming them with the exception of my best ones I have usable material for flawless stones in.
That sounds cool, I actually have a piece of meteor shower sunstone that's very similar to what you described, but it's pretty clean. Found it just yesterday when packing up my gems. I feel like cracks are just something I have to accept with feldspar sometimes, it can just be so difficult to find a good bright clean one, but a bright one with a crack is still a bright one in my books. I'd love to see your result when you finish, sounds like a cool piece.
Etheopian is what it looks like. Sucks that they absorb water and skin oils turning them brown, and they crack easily. Otherwise they would be worth the price.
Yeah man, it is etheopian opal, I've worked very little australian opal so far. Personally i feel like they are worth the price if you know how to take care if them. I've worked with a lot of etheopian opal since I started stone work, I notice that the most cracky ones are usually this chalky white, stayish isn't really worth my time because I feel like it's always cracking. But welo opals are relatively reliable, it's like 1 in 20 opals cracks during the drying process for me. I've had some ethiopian opals that flew out of my hand while shapeing that I didn't find for months ,and when I did, they were oil stained, once I soak them in acetone and let them dry back out they have all been good and went back to the original state. But australian is, no doubt, funner and easier to work with because you don't have to deal with the color temporarily disappearing while your working on the stone.
Loved your bracelet! Curious how you use the dob sticks while holding the rotary tool. Such small stones
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the results! I actually have my dremel clamped to a shelf so it's in a fixed position so I don't have to worry about moving the dremel with other hand. I actually show my setup in a video of your interested in seeing It.

@@carlynscolorfulcreations oh perfect! Thank you! Oh this is my other channel lol
4:50 if that big clean sunstone was either stronger in flash or maybe a little bit more transparent, it would be worth a good amount of money.
I still think it could be good if I did something with it sometime, the meteor flash from the side is actually pretty decent in person. Might either just polish the whole thing up sometime or, when I have a tile saw or something eventually, I can make slices to capture the meteor flash and make a collection of cabs from it. I didn't spend all that much on the parcle because geckostones is great and has fantastic prices especially on their eBay, so I'm not hurting by holding on till I have better tools.
@carlynscolorfulcreations I have heard of geckostones I haven't bought anything from him yet. I will look into his stuff after I get some more important things like some new guns. I'm not rich unfortunately
@Nervii_Champion oh yeah man, I'm not rich either lol. But his ebay has 1,000ct rough parcles for around $100 $150 usd sometimes, this parcle was like $120 and it's already paid for itself. When you can afford to I highly recommend. I also usually put all his links in the description of videos where I work on stuff I got from him too.
Hey, Carlyn, I sent you an email here was curious if you got it.
Hello! yeah, I got your email, was probably going to send giveaways out tomorrow. Will send your a tracking number as soon as I do
@@carlynscolorfulcreations Ok cool wasn't sure If i sent to correct one thanks again, Can't wait for the next video!
That one loooks crazy, at least a $100 per carat stone if there is no fractures. Now that I have seen it cut, I would have rather you free formed it and kept more of the darkness of the stone. Some gemstones don't need much done to them honestly, except a polish
I feel that, I kinda wish I had done more of a free form too, it's really the brightest galexy/ purple haze sunstone I've gotten so far. I feel like I get a little too focused on making a perfect shape sometimes, but it's always good to learn as I go. I ended up selling the necklace already, I was hosting a stand at a renaissance festival a month back and sold it right away for $80. Still was worth it to me, the person who bought it was really nice, good to know it could've sold for more.
@carlynscolorfulcreations I have a bunch of rough I want to cut and polish myself, I have a flex shaft that is of average quality and a dremel I would probably be better off with since it spins more evenly, but haven't really had the time or courage to do it because I don't want to mess any of them up, or make any mistakes. I think I just need to go ahead and do a couple and see what happens, and save my best and most expensive rough sunstones for last after I have learned a little more.
@@Nervii_Champion yeah, I think it's always best to save the best stones for last, that's usually what I do. I think this video I got excited about such a bright stone. I use a dremel 3,000, it's probably not the best thing for the job, but it does it. If your really new to lapidary, I suggest starting with your most crappie stones and work towards the better ones as your skill increases. I learned how to shape stones on etheopian opal, and I wish I had started on some beach rocks or something. But if you have any stencils, they can really help if your going for a particular shape. If you want to see my dremel settup for inspiration I can attach a link to the video I showed it in.
@carlynscolorfulcreations yeah I'd actually like to see that because I use a Dremel 3000 also I got from Walmart
Those are nice stones. I have black ones and some orange ones with the same inclusions
There is quite the variety with Feldspar gems, underrated gemstone group. Corundum, Feldspars, and Quartz such as Agate and Chalcedony are some of my favorite gems. I like gems that have character like Stars or Cats Eye from titanium oxide inclusions, or the iron oxide in some Sunstones and Moonstones. Anyway great video impressive only doing that with a dremel. I've tried I suck at it.
Thanks for commenting! I also have a huge sift spot for gems with a glimmer to them. I especially have been loving feldspar lately, I think I have 7 or 8 verieties of feldspar on hand in rough right now I need to work on. I collect agates I find in my area aswell, I only have a handful of ones with clarity, but I've been thinking about actually cabbing some sometime. I'm glad you enjoyed the video aswell , I feel like there's no way I'd be able to do what I do with the dremel if I didn't have it in a fixed position, but it's nice to not need something too fancy.
@carlynscolorfulcreations having a wench anchor you can press into a table and then hold the dremel in place works very well, basically turns it into a cabbing machine if you have the right diamond discs.
@@Nervii_Champion I actually have my dremel clamped to a shelf, it's pretty stable and does the job. I'm moving in a couple weeks though, so i'll have to change how I do things temporarily. But it has been like a little cabing machine, it's been nice. If i got a new piece of equipment to make things easier it'd have to be some sort of saw to help me slice up the large pieces.
@@carlynscolorfulcreations yea a saw made for slicing gems and losing the least amount of material possible is something that is actually pretty important, I forgot because I haven't done anything with my collection in a while
This was randomly recommended to me on the homepage, so the algorithm is working as intended! Very inspiring work, my dream of perhaps buying some equipment and getting into making jewelry is inching ever closer haha. Safe to say I subscribed, liked and here I am commenting! Have a nice weekend!
Thank you for watching, commenting and subscribing! I'm glad you found my channel, I've only been doing stone work for 4 years now, but I absolutely love doing it. one day I'd like to do my own metal work and maybe find the stones myself sometime, but no matter what it's really rewarding work when you finish something.
Darn had the notifications set for the live and I fell asleep. Watching now, hopefully will catch it next time. WOW what an AMAZING piece! I learned so much watching this. Glad I am not the only one that rocks/nerds out on this stuff LMAO. I have never thought of trying to make jewelry like this before. Defiantly thinking all the things, I could now. I love my rotary flex shaft. Thank you so much for sharing. OMG I WON? WOOHOO I NEVER win ANYTHING! freaking AWESOME!. . .Congrats @dustyblueberry3313 Happy Halloween Everyone!
It's beautiful anyway. Regardless off "faults". Is it for sale?

Oh, Carlyn. I'm so sorry. Missed the live. Watching now.
did youtube screw you out of the notification again?
@@ThatOpalGuy Yes and yes and yes and yes! I am becoming very backwoods in language skills, believe me. Learning words that I had no idea there are places for! Fast losing its &#/&-×^]($ novelty! LOL.
great work mate like it very much stay safe
Thanks for watching! I'm happy you liked the bracelet!
I think they're all beautiful. I'm curious to know if anyone's ever put a bit of black glass or something on the back of Ethiopian opal that's crystal? You know, like a doublet, but it could have a full dome, just to bring the colours out. Thats why they smoke them, right? They could do that with Australian crystal too, not just because it has no dome, because it will bring out the colour. Talking about patience, when I was trying to dry some water opal specimens I got, I was so convinced it would crack to bits that I really wanted to hit it with a hammer and get it over with, get it before it got me 😂
I wonder about the ethiopian opal doublet theory alot actually. When I get settled in after I move states, I might give it a shot just for the kicks. My biggest worries would be, since ethiopian opal expands and contracts with moisture, it might wiggle off the backing with time, but it's worth a shot! And I might have some colorless crystal australian opal that I can test the smoking australian opal theory. I feel like ethiopian opal will pick it up alot better because it absorbs water more, but it'd be crazy if it worked on australian. Not that I'd recommend it, but it'd be interesting for sure.
I'm not surprised you're proud of yourself for the great job you did with that bracelet, coz I'd be proud of myself if I'd made that beautiful sunstone bracelet too. If anything you've inspired me to want to make something for myself! Great video as usual 😀
Thank you for watching and commenting! I had a really fun time putting together this bracelet and I hope you have as much fun if you do something similar soon! I think a bracelet with purple haze sunstone would be out of this world.
@@carlynscolorfulcreations yeah the purple haze would look amazing and I've only polished a small piece that I have as I've been a bit unsure what to use it in?! Although it would take me a lot loooonnnnggggeeerrrr to try to create one for myself compared to you. 😁
Hi Carlyn, thank you so much for the opal. 🎉❤🎉 I will send you an email in a couple of hours coz I'm having major issues with my new phone not talking to my old one. I've literally been walking around with 2 mobiles. My old phone still works to some degree using WiFi. But the new phone is having major problems being set up at all but, once it's sorted I'll email you. Thanks again!!!!
Hey Kylie! I got your email, don't worry about postage, it's part of the giveaway! Hope you feel healthier every day,and I'm wishing you the absolute best. I'll ship these opals out to you this weekend and I'll email you back with tracking details when I do. Take care!
@@carlynscolorfulcreations Hi Carlyn, thanks for the kind well wishes, I'm already here a year longer and expected since last year so that's a good thing, anyway......... I'm glad that the email went through okay as I'm still having issues with my new phone! But seriously I'm more than happy to pay for the postage as it's only the right thing to do, as it's so friggin expensive to send anything to or from this country. Also, the opals are the prize, NOT the postage. So just let me know how much it is?! Also I know you're super busy moving ect. so whenever you get around to to it is fine. Thanks so much again. ☺️
This was a really enjoyable video, the bracelet turned out beautifully. All your videos are great. I'm curious about the mural behind you and the backstory to your he-man and the masters of the universe attachment. Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The background I use is a tapestry that my aunt gave me 9 years ago. And I just have liked the 1989 he-man since I was a pre-teen, I always thought it's weird and funny, still do. I appreciate you leaving a comment, hope I answered your questions.
well done, stones, bracelet, video.
Thanks Don, for your congratulations and kind sentiment in the live stream. I missed it initially, that's why I hadn't responded, sorry! ☺️
@@dustyblueberry3313 you're welcome. You should have a lot of fun with these pieces of rough.

Thank you! And i wanted to let you know that you won the opal parcle in my most recent giveaway. If you email me at toddhouse298@gmail.com with your shipping info, I can get those to you soon.
Hi Carlyn, that was a sweet little stone you got out of that opal, unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it if there's a large crack in it though! Also I hope you're happy and doing well..... It's just been a while since you've put a video up, so I thought I'd check in on you to say hello to see how you're doing!? I also recall you saying that you were busy getting ready for an event in October with a stall to sell some of your creations, I hope that went really well for you?! You'll have to tell us all in your next video. Take care and hopefully hear from you soon 🙂
Hey dusty! I'm doing well, the fair happend October 6th and 7th. I've just been getting things together to eventually move here in November. I have a new video coming out on Wed. I think I'm going to film a "channel update" to post after to kinda just let everyone know I'm moving so I don't have a setup anymore but I still plan on posting as much as I can. I have just like 2 or 3 videos that I can edit and post in the mean time. But yeah, thanks for checking in with me, It's just been a little wild especially since I don't have a car so it's been interesting.
@@carlynscolorfulcreations Wow! That sounds so hectic. And I know how hard it can get as I've moved interstate 4 times but, I've never done it without a car. Don't even worry about filming etc and your channel at the moment, we will all still be here waiting for you when you return! I'm just glad you're okay because I was starting to get a little worried, considering, it's been awhile. Anyway, take care and look after yourself and good luck with the rest of your move🍀😃
