All the pieces look lovely but the teardrop really stands out. Thanks for explaining more about the ethiopian opal as I really didn't know much about it. Great video as always.
Also sorry I missed this and was late to view it but it was my hubby's birthday so he took some time off work, he's back at work now so I'm just catching up with some things I've missed 😀

I hope your hubby had a great birthday! And it's always okay if you miss my videos, I'll never be disappointed and they will always be there. I'm just glad you enjoyed the video and feel like you may have learned something. I used to work with exclusively ethiopian opal so I really love the stuff but it can be tricky sometimes. I will definitely have more ethiopian opal videos in the future, and I have alot of past videos of this material aswell.

@@carlynscolorfulcreations he did have a good birthday, thank you! I've definitely learnt things from you and you're videos about ethiopian opal as it really isn't straightforward with it, I've also learnt more about sunstone and moonstone from you as well. Looking forward to seeing new videos from you and I'll have to check out some of your previous ones😀

Nice work Carlyn and great video. The longer oval shape is often called 'racetrack' in Australian 'cutter slang' ;)

Great video, Thanks for explaining as you go along. What kind of Dremel are you using, I would like to know how it holds itself up. Thanks :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I actually use a dremel 3,000, and i have it clamped to a shelf to keep it stable, I show my dremel set up in my most recent moonstone video if you are interested in seeing my clamp situation and trying to recreate it.

I think they're all beautiful. I'm curious to know if anyone's ever put a bit of black glass or something on the back of Ethiopian opal that's crystal? You know, like a doublet, but it could have a full dome, just to bring the colours out. Thats why they smoke them, right? They could do that with Australian crystal too, not just because it has no dome, because it will bring out the colour.
Talking about patience, when I was trying to dry some water opal specimens I got, I was so convinced it would crack to bits that I really wanted to hit it with a hammer and get it over with, get it before it got me 😂

I wonder about the ethiopian opal doublet theory alot actually. When I get settled in after I move states, I might give it a shot just for the kicks. My biggest worries would be, since ethiopian opal expands and contracts with moisture, it might wiggle off the backing with time, but it's worth a shot! And I might have some colorless crystal australian opal that I can test the smoking australian opal theory. I feel like ethiopian opal will pick it up alot better because it absorbs water more, but it'd be crazy if it worked on australian. Not that I'd recommend it, but it'd be interesting for sure.
