It's not "about 70%" it's exactly 2/3rds for the Aorta (3000 max en capacity with 2000 supply recovery. The larger generator will giver you back 75% but it takes a bit longer to activate the supply revovery.

Energy Recharge Delay affects how quickly a generator from bottoming, which apparently the fastest is like 1-2 seconds, I could be and Coral generators kinda take 3-4 seconds to recharge from completely emptying out which takes the same amount of time of actually waiting to recharge normally... not sure if it was designed that way for balance purposes but Coral Generators aren't even good at the niche that they are supposed to fill, since other generators could literally do what Coral generators do but still do other things but better... so yeah coral generators just suck and the devs kinda need to rebalance coral generators Energy Recharge Time because that recharge time is enough to make me not want to use them...

What guns you using?

Been playing since 1997 during my youth times. Over time I have learned when it comes to carefully building your AC on certain parts with low or high EN Load, basically by lowering the EN load further would help with energy recovery speed. I have used the coral generators before, one thing is the EN Recharge Delay is kinda slow, but as you pointed out there are tricks. So that's my take on when it comes to building a low energy efficient AC for battle. The generators I use mostly that produces a blue plasma glow on boosters like the VP-20D has great recovery time, although it's the heaviest yes.

I’ve been playing since ‘97, and always tried to prevent Gen crashes - and for good reason. That shit would make one a shambling bullseye. 🧟‍♂️ 🎯 Then, in 2005, I went to my first tourney - first time I ever fought equally serious humans. There I fought someone who intentionally busted a Gen in 9-breaker to get their energy back faster. It blew my f**king mind 🤣 It’s seems counter intuitive, but with the coral gens it’s almost infinite power…and they have a lovely crimson shine to boot 🥳

Coral is a living fuel and viral for machines. Seeing it as a nonphysical type damage weapon really does throw a lot people off. Even fighting ayre and her coral sheild, pulse weapons are really not effective than explosives and maybe fire, not sure.

I use the stun needle for my back weapons and javelin alphas for both of my arm weapons

You should try firing the earshot from an elevated position. This allows for the large blast radius to really shine.
