- Any Monster Hunter fans out there? This time I've got a Rathalos inspired flamethrower build with a secret tech. I do a few round of 1v1 but skip the 3v3 this time around as this build wasn't built for it.

i love the flamethrower. basically like a gatling gun, except:
Pros
- much higher dps
- acs anomaly
- much bigger projectile hitbox
- hard for opponent to see
- looks cool
Cons
- no inherent stagger

if youve played risk of rain i made an "enforecer" themed bot which essentially a riot police officer
i have the shield launcher, tower pulse shield
stun grenade launcher and stun baton
i use the pulse shield launcher for his "shield bash" ability
Myndrr came out with a flamethrower + shield launcher build just hours ago, but he didnt point out the very effective offensive use of the shields. Seeing how well it synergizes with the flamethrower status effect makes me think they were purposefully designed to work together that way.

I'm sure it was a complete coincidence. I myself was experimenting with the pulse shields and noticed that the pulse guns can fire through them, which not many people have pointed out. I completely overlooked the synergy with the bad cooks.
unlike myndrr he didn't name the title "best pvp build ever".
Not leading new players on the wrong path, making them believe this build can actually compete with meta...

This may be a candidate for free aim, most natural reaction to the flamethrower is to backpedal, so it may be more effective to place shields behind your opponent. Could only really do that with free aim.
That would be an interesting tactic. Hard to pull off, but would be awesome.
@@LikelyFeral Absolutely top tier skill required. I don't think there's many that could make it work, definitely have to be the mouse and keyboard crowd. Be cool to see though.
By far the most unique and my favorite of all your ACs. My mind was already putting together a dragon theme and then when you said Rathlos it immediately clicked.
That's awesome concept design man, the colors scream Rathlos, my favorite part being under the wings. Again not only is the build unique its actually affective in combat. You have my upmost respect because again you represent the players that will give any game life instead of the majority that only seek to win by copying meta.

I wonder if using Hard Lock on this build would be more useful. Accuracy isn't as important as range and keeping the enemy in your sights because both the flamethrower and the shields have such massive hitboxes. You could really focus on maintaining that ~80 metre range for perfect shield deployment, not to mention you'd be much more accurate with boost kicks between shield reloads.
my same thought. I think if he had the target more under control by using lock-on he would've performed sensibly better.
I shift back and forth but hard locks preferable. I use it in the matches, but it's not always easy to see and definitely doesn't ensure you stay locked on at that range. If they (or you) move quick enough it can break.

Even if you miss with the shields, a moving enemy that runs into the shield will still take damage as if you hit them directly
Yep, and they are super hard to see in the fire.
Super cool build. I made a build based off astalos. Id be excited if you did more fantasy inspired builds

the shield throwers are so close to being absurdly strong, a tiny buff to their projectiles initial speed or distance could open the meta wide open

The other neat thing about the shield gun vs the actual shields, is that it just stops ALL damage. There is no % mitigation it just prevents everything
And they share an optimal range with the whip dart. Just leaving that here.
And another thing! There is no penalty to hardlock with flamethrowers.

My question here is: what exactly does ACS Anomaly end up doing to foes? As in, the potency of stagger build-up, and if it weakens armour defence or not (saw something about that on the internet).
I believe it just makes them easier to stagger. Not sure if there's been any solid testing on defense, but I didn't notice it if so. As for how much easier it makes it, I've heard double the Stagger buildup tossed around but I'm not sure of the accuracy of that.
Monster hunter on ps2 veteran. Played every game in the us since so seein rathalos was awesome. I wanna do a fatalis.

Dang it, now my build is gonna start showing up in matches everywhere…. 😅😂 the only difference for me is that I only use 1 shield launcher and the laser drones launcher, since the shield launcher’s cooldown is quick enough to shoot again by the time your first 3 shields disappear and I wanted an additional weapon that was effective without interfering with the shields
Edit: mine is called “Blister” and I chose the dome head cause it has the highest attitude stability rating, I did the lightweight arms with the highest firearm specialty, I did the lightweight torso that juts put like a pyramid, and I did those same legs as in the video. Color scheme is white, orange, and grey with heavy black weathering.
Sounds interesting. Let's bring the launchers into the spotlight!
@@LikelyFeralhonestly, I’m happy to see more and more builds get exposure like this. Sure, I can think to myself that I wish I could’ve kept this build as my own little secret power, but at the end of the day anything that gets people trying builds that aren’t dual zimmermans in great news to me 😂

Question, wouldn't this build be better with stun guns? Its essentially free burst dmg from shield stuns
Just depends. The ACS from the throwers add to the shields stun potential, so that's very nice. Could work fine with stun guns too.

too bad it doesn't use digitigrade legs cuz that would fit the look of rathalos. it would be cool to see a bagel juice build, one that just drops bombs. i know i've already seen a build like that. maybe somehow replicate the divebomb, not sure how that would work tho.
I really considered it, but they were just too easy to stagger for the Flamethrower
You’d have to have a booster with high range combined with some melee weapon to get somewhat close to a dive bomb.

I like it. But I'd rather go for a tetrapod with heavy missle launchers instead of the shield tech.

missles for distance and building up impact, for close float up far enough that the melee boost will make it hard to get to you and spam kicks to build up impact up close with damage.@@LikelyFeral

I do sometimes. I'm just not super in the habit of it. You will see me switch a bit throughout.

The easiest thing I did was just accept the missions or choices I hadn't done in previous playthroughs. BUT if you can't remember which you did, here's a quick guide on it:

My dude, just hard lock. You’re using continuous damage aoe weapons at close range. You’re missing a lot of time on target just by not being quick enough with your camera movements.
Most of the time I am, it's just hard to see the thick ring with the fire. The hard lock is still occasionally broken at that close of a range.
Precisely. Melee, shotguns, flamethrowers, and pistols on a controller there is no reason not to hard lock playing that close. We can't whip the camera like m&k and the loss of accuracy is either negligible or just a non-issue that close.
