I'm surprised you didn't even mention the first Mafia game. Although released a few months after GTA 3 (though definitely not a clone, they were being developed simultaneously), it was so much better at basically everything. From graphics to physics, driving and the most importantly - story telling. GTA 3 is a joke for kids compared to Mafia.

I wished you mentioned this in the video but in GTA V trailers, you see there was clearly visible use of Global Illumination. Implementing this in a video game of 2013 would be way so much ahead of its time. This is what contributes the most to make the recent Forza Horizon look so realistic. But it was completely absent in the final game. It feels like a huge graphical downgrade but I think it was done for the limitations of hardwares back then.

It was never about scale but traversal. And traversal is perfect. You can drive from point A to point B in a hundred different ways, if you ignore your GPS for a second. But 100% of GTA players are slaves to the purposely mid GPS. So basically until you let go of your old game design BS, you have never played GTA 5.

Dude: Los Santos is boring. Also dude: Drives using GPS all the time. I can tell you know nothing about the game because the world is the best piece of world design in video games until that point in time.

fivem makes it worse no matter how different you changes the buildings cars outfits and or Peds All maps are the same and it gets boring after awhile Which why I'm getting back into A3RP at least until 6 comes out!

gta 5 is a technical marvel, considering it was made with the ps3/360 in mind.if 5 was developed exclusively for 8th gen it would have been more dense and complex.good on rockstar for making gta6 for curremt gen only.

Cause no one can compete with GTAs balance of realism while also being fun like a game and not too realistic or too unrealistic its a perfected balance also not counting in the motion capture they use, the music the atmosphere etc! Every gta has a atmosphere and a compelling story! Trust me I love saints row 2 as a game but cutscene wise it was a bit bland

The Saints Row Reboot might be the worst game in the series (I liked Agents of Mayhem but its not a Saints Row game IMO just a game with a few Saints as characters. Calling it a Saints row game is like calling Street fighter a Final Fight game because a couple of Final Fight characters are in the Street Fighter Alpha games). I'm not sure if I think the reboot or the original is worse because I haven't played the original since before 2 came out but it was still fun and it was actually new unlike GTA 6 not being out yet despite Grand Theft Auto V coming out less then a month after Saints Row IV. I will never understand why Septic Avenger was in every saints Row games after 2 though The Third is my favorite.

I watched the GTA 6 trailer in 4K... it looks good but it's not spectacular. - okay models (visible polygons) - mid-res textures - lack of facial detail It looks more like a remaster of GTA 5 than GTA 6. I mean, natural vision evolved with all add-ons installed looks sooo much better than GTA 6

Hmm, the Mercenaries series should be here if you included Just Cause. Mercenaries is a hilariously fun game with military assets and calling in air strikes. Even better if you play multiplayer.

i like the design of the map cuz it realistically feels like you are driving north on the coast of California going into the country if you drive on the west side of the map. Then you can either cut through the mountains and get to Blaine County or continue to drive around Chilliad and get to Blaine. Just wish theyd have added another island. Either San Fierro or Las Venterus

Saints Row 2 was one of my favorite stories in the open world sandbox genre. Gta SA was my favorite until Red Dead 2 came out.

I feel like when they designed GTA 5 they did it JUST so that the story could have it's set pieces. Trevor's character suited a desert area, and Michael and Franklin had their respective suitable areas. But even if this was the design philosophy, there didn't need to be so much goddamn desert.

Honestly if they added more for the upper half more locations more contacts better businesses more safe houses i think less people would complain

The short answer is: they’re now too expensive to make, for anyone else to bother. SLEEPING DOGS never got a sequel, so what hope does anyone else have?

If I had to speculate, I’d guess that budget is an issue. Wasn’t GTAV, like, THE most expensive video game ever made when it came out? How can smaller publishers compete with that, especially when they know that they’re not specialized to really do anything as well as Rockstar does, so they’re basically guaranteed to work for a long time with huge numbers of departments designing hundreds of overlapping systems for a guaranteed inferior product? Sleeping Dogs was an incredible game and I’m still waiting for a sequel to that. The first two Saints Row games (especially Saints Row 2) were good, but then they jumped off the cliff with all the goofy, zany stuff. Watch Dogs looks like it should be fun, but the UI of actually doing even what should be the simplest tasks is cumbersome and exhausting. I do like the promise of open world games, but one thing a lot of companies have to get away from is polluting the map with too many waypoints and collectibles and activities. That is a frequent problem.
