- Grand Theft Auto IV's internet was a very unique moment in tech history captured by Rockstar Games. The websites in the game are absolutely insane and unhinged. In this video I want to take a look a some of the many websites and webpages in GTA 4. Let's surf the web together!
GTA IV has been talked about ad nauseam on TH-cam, so if you've chosen to click on this video and give it a watch, then I thank you very much.

Best part of the GTA IV websites is how they're a time capsule, a parody of the old internet before brand deals, before huge TH-cam personalities, before social media was a common phrase, before you only went to a few websites for just about everything. The real internet used to be the wild west and that really came to an end in the early 2010s, right after this game would come out. So many people had sites that just got spread around via word of mouth because some folks were crazy enough to type anything in a web address to see what popped up or friends sharing their web domain with their friends and so on. Blogs, small news sites, a website that just had dancing hamster gifs, or a site just to share pictures of your dog, the Internet just isn't the same anymore. Those kinds of sites still exist but you just don't see them as much anymore. Browsing GTA IV's version of the Internet is reminiscent of those old days and I love it for that.
Im just waiting to see how the gta 6 internet will be, jackass influencers who bully people through staged pranks, weird family vlogs, cryto coin and nft scammers.
This moved me
absolutely the internet used to be a bigger and more mysterious and niche place
If I compare the internet then and now, Reddit kind of feels like the old internet if you squint your eyes real bad and pretend subreddits are the websites. It's not the same and just like you said, now it's just a few huge websites most people go to. There's no real need for any more websites.
I remember how many websites there were that only listed other cool websites to check out, like a phonebook but with URLs.
I know the internet is (arguably) better now, but man, those were the days...
This. I just finished it again to play RDR2 but MAAN this game perfectly encapsulates a time I wasn’t around and It gives me that funny feeling.
I love how in-game media in GTA games have like no filters on them. No matter if it's radio, television, or internet, people and companies are extremely blunt/vulgar/inappropriate to the point that censorship is a joke in itself. My favorite aspect of it is news journalists having zero journalistic integrity so personal opinions often spill into reports.
So basically, CNN.
the funniest part is they were right about that
@@SergeantExtremenah. That’s Fox News.
@@adrianalobo6780 I don't recall Fox News reporting that inflation was 9% in 2020. Can you point me to that article? Oh wait, that was CNN.
@@SergeantExtremeyeah fox news just uses photoshopped images of people to slander them and removes context from footage to make agitprop... cnn and fox are bad... it's okay for them both to be bad 😮😮 maybe we shouldn't trust profit driven mainstream media companies to give us reliable news? lol... but fox isn't mainstream, right? it's just in the top 3 most watched channels in the US LOL.
While GTA V's internet is more useful, being able to buy cars and use the stock market, I still prefer IV's internet. Most websites feel like they have more to them, each news outlet has its own page and you can choose each article. In GTA V, you'd get a random article at the top of the home page, not as detailed and never having pictures attached. Its almost too much honestly. Also I just like the feeling of being in an internet cafe browsing the internet with the chill music playing in the background. Just another thing that makes IV's world so immersive.
I have noticed that, I think it has to do with maybe the developers invest so much time on it and when the game comes out and is played everyone is talking about how great the game is the radio stations but not to much talk about how great gta4 Internet is, so I think that for the next one they don't go all out, it kinda looks like gta4 Internet was free and open and gta5 Internet is restricted and private
honestly you couldn't buy cars or trade stocks on the internet back in 2007 in real life, so it'd be natural for GTA 4's internet to not have that much utility (aside from some missions), but I agree that GTA 4 did A LOT better than GTA V on the immersive worldbuilding and/or details department, GTA V just feels a little empty to me at times
GTA in game internet, talk radio, and advertisements are the best examples of satire on American culture I've seen in ANY medium.
Really shows the uk humor/satire of the development team
Yea it does I just picked up a ps3 just for GTA 4 because I can’t not visit my past and this game takes me back to how I was doing back then for better or worse lol nostalgia is a funny thing
@Banneduserbanneduserare you an idiot?
@BanneduserbanneduserOG Rockstar is from the UK, they opened a office in NYC but the developers for the longest were from the UK so yea
@Banneduserbanneduser are u ok lmao
@Banneduserbanneduser rockstar is scottish lmao
The internet in 4 is super fun
The websites added in the DLCs are cool too, I've wasted quite a few hours browsing through a lot of them
It gives me that old nostalgic internet feeling of just browsing around and seeing what I could find
so we gonna ignore the fact that Rockstar predicted alot of stuff.. instagram, tiktok, onlyfans.. thats wild lmao
Meaning it was inevitable
@@TheSkyGuy77 Probably. GTA’s worlds are largely just parodies of the real world.
It already existed in 2008, just on a much smaller scale.
@@SkydrawnIV what did? None of these were around in 08 lol. And the game was being worked on even before that, since 2004..
@painexotic3757 The concept that all those apps are centred around, all those ideas were well and truly on the internet at that time.
gta 4s internet = growing up with the internet
gta 5s internet = growing up on the internet
God the GTA IV websites' lore is deeeep man. Blogsnobs specifically was crazy lol
What's "Blogsnobs"? I'd love to hear about it
@@LeonS.kennedyswife the ingame equivalent of blogspot, a platform where anyone can open up a blog to post whatever on. needless to say the ingame version is quite unhinged lol
@@Knaeckebrotsaege Well it's gta. I would be surprised if it isn't unhinged.
It's crazy how well this stuff has aged, it was almost all written before 2008.
Because it probably is.
The internet hasn't changed all that much. It just got a lot bigger
@@KaitouKaiju It really changed though. There's more censorship, less freedom and you can get cancelled.
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441But not everyone agrees with you on that statement. GTA 4 was always controversial even back then. Remember when Hillary Clinton was trying to cancel GTA San Andreas for having the infamous coffee mod? Remember when people freaked out when the first mortal Kombat game was released?
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441 the internet of the time when GTA 4 came out is dead, the whole internet is dead at this point.
it's insane how in 10 years, we're gonna have "Browsing GTA V's Unhinged Interent"
Check his channel now

I really loved the Krapea website. It is so sarcastic
Since 2008 I only call IKEA like that IRL too
This is the best sense of humor I've ever seen in any game
GTA writing is always pretty good, but the writing in IV was top tier satire.
"I love to travel" "I am a queen" Rockstar just predicted 99% of female dating profiles.
I bet if I create Eddies acc one by one on a real social media platform, I will definitely get the FBI on my doorstep 💀
See these along with the radio ads in SA and VC were the kind of things Rockstar did to go above and beyond. Imo that is what made the game so memorable. Man I still remember the Ammunation commercial from SA and the rancher guy from VC.
When i was little, i didnt pay too much attention to the internet in IV plus my english was not good enough. When I replayed this game last year, I noticed that I could just browse the net for hours! Really entertaining stuff, making fun and satirise the shit out of people who lack self awareness irl is just the best.
The same thing happened to me, but with the radio
I hope we can doom scroll in social media sites in gta 6 and every social media site has their own short formed contents to spend hours watching
I hope there’s cringe react content related to story events lmao
@@CaptainGlack That would be funny lol
Is Tony really 50 years old in GTA IV? That would make him 66 now wtf
makes you realize theres many gta characters that are pretty old rn. compare that to other franchises with young cast of characters mostly 😂
He's about 43
Yeah and Lazlow would be in his 60's too if he was in his early 20's in GTA VCS.
@@kylesoler4139 but lazlow from 3d universe and hd universe are different people. He would be younger in the Hd universe.
@@dread1262 why does the Police Database from GTA4 say that Tony is 50 years old. And GTA4 takes place in 2008
always thought GTA IV's internet needs more examination
what an amazing rabbit hole
Hope VI can be as witty and accurate as this was. For all its criticisms, V had some fckin funny ones like the baggie swallowing site
I'm going to be recording the GTA V internet video tonight, so I'll be sure to include that one!
the people commenting on those blogs/websites feel so real. Rockstar are really good for making parodies of the real world, and there are so much websites. It's really impressive to see the level of detail.
Lazlow (yes... that one) wrote most of gta 4 and 5's internet.
@@Rubix003 he must have spent a lot of time on some obscure forums seeking for inspiration. i'd love to see a "making of" video in which he talks about this
Such an under appreciated detail. Same with the tv
I remember as a kid taking Alice to the russian bar in hove beach, and she was mad at me. Then I stalked her blog page, and saw that she posted about it saying Niko took her to an icky dive bar. I thought that was real af.
I imagine that must've felt like on those small yet striking "this is next-gen" moments specifically, this is the GTA experiences in next-gen. It's a feeling I'm achingly hoping GTA VI will provide several times.
I remember being like 10 playing just after release and spending so much bloody time on the in-game internet.
Ironically, it was a lot more accurate to the real-world internet than it is today haha
I played this game to death when it came out and i still return to it time and time again when i have a minute, just like a lot of folk i was to young to understand the writing but now im an old git this writing is so appreciated and is making my day 😂
Rockstar games you have blown my mind once again, just bravo 👏
I remember the dating app thing for the main characters and I remember you could get a 2 star wanted level if you go to a certain website I think.
Eddie low even commented under the strangers tab
well he is creepy and a serial killer lol
littlelacy's website was probably discovered for the first time by a Vice City Stories fan. They must've been bugged out by the link made between both universes.
12:44 Luis Fernando Lopez would be the Protagonist of TBoGT.
also wu "kenny" lee and huang lee from gta chinatown wars
GTA 6 should have a TikTok/insta reels parody with impotent rage and/or republican space rangers themed brain rot
defo
I missed a lot of those websites from my times playing gta4
I really love going back to GTA IV and looking at all the stuff the game has to offer, such as the various in-game websites. This is an excellent video man, keep up the great work and take care!
i love the internet >>
I remember there was an illegal website that when you access it you instantly get a 4 star wanted level
lacy's little surprise yep lol
I like how Brucie Kibbutz is just Andrew Tate what a prophecy
Woah your frequent uploads! Solid channel to watch out for, nice!
So sad Rockstar didn't develop our internet
real
Besides Liberty Tree there are PLO and Weazel, who also report news. And all 3 sites are kinda biased in different ways. It's cool to read up 3 totally different stories about an event you were witnessing in person
3:09 jesus christ they were so blunt with all of it lmao “unfunny machinima” wtf they went berserk on all of them it doesn’t feel like GTA anymore, almost like a really aggresive parody of GTA itself 😂
this is a very well done video
OMG it's so UNHINGED!!! These developer lads must have been absolutely mad!!!
I never knew looking at GTA 4 and 5 Internet would be fun asf.
Gta's world is fun.
That Pure Pool OST is fitting!
The internet content in IV and V is hugely underrated. Can't wait to see what they cook up for VI!
The youtube analogy still remains the clearest writing on the wall and nailing everything wrong with the site I've seen and the fact they had it this clocked by *2008* says a lot.
I do wonder what happened between this and what passes as GTA V's writing
Brucie, the OG masculinity grifter
I hope they make a Tate parody with him and his brother Mori lmao
And this is just scratching the surface. Craplist (craiglist) is hilarious as well. Just checking out GTA 4's internet with The Journey radio in the background is pure nostalgia
I love GTA IV's and Front Mission 3's in-game internet. GTA IV100% captures 2007/8 internet culture, even being a parody. Supposedly Dan Houser hated TH-cam that's why ElectricTit is so over the top.
I was wondering if GTA had an established TH-cam equivalent. I vaguely recall ElectricTit but I don't think I knew it was the YT parody until now. When I looked it up on the wiki, it stated that it's a combination of TH-cam, RedTube and PornHub, apperantly. I'm hoping there's a more direct fictional TH-cam in GTA VI or at least an ElectricTit where you could watch videos, maybe sub to channels and get notifs. It's lesser emphasis on pornographic content could reflect social media apps being more supervised by the 2020s.
Alr know this gon blow up
Great video! Just subbed. Is your outro song Handbags and Gladrags btw?
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Also yeah it is! A favourite of mine since childhood. You’re the first person to comment on it too!
@@CaptainGlack Great choice! I thought I recognised it 😊
Imagine if GTA VI’s internet had some kind of Wayback Machine parody and allowed you to access sites from the old GTA IV internet.
LOVE the Pure Pool soundtrack used in this video
Truly timeless.
Before the internet got taken over by the man.
A thousand words was a parody of Humans of NY... How am I miss that one?
"The war on fun" sounds like today's gaming:-p
I really didn't ever think just HOW unhinged the WWW was in GTA IV until this. I was always too busy doing stuff, and making the cops VERY angry. Never really browsed GTA V's internet that much... But now I'm going to, just so I can see how wild that is too. I miss the old days of uncensored and crazy stuff online.
I spent once 3 hours reading everything on there, electrictit comments are hilarious, myroomonline was wild, eddie low's lore gave me nightmares once
The what they do now want you to know website is such a clever way of secretly telling the player where to find the collectibles.
You could spend hours browsing the gta iv internet
I distinctly remember the click pointer doing the middle finger on you, could my memory be this wrong?
That was actually only in GTA V ahaha, but honestly before this video I thought the same thing.
@@CaptainGlack Ah so I wasn't totally misremembering, anyway good video, took me back
Absolutely loved this video
Surprised you didn't talk about the VERY illegal in-game website. One that automatically lets the police know your location and gets you a 5 star wanted level...
A huge Thank You for your unique and exceptional GTA IV videos which made appreciate this masterpiece game even more 🙌
love this content
I know I'm not the only one to have already mentioned this but its amazing to me that despite GTA 4 being developed by a UK company, Rockstar has always captured the satire of American Culture very well for almost 20 years by now.
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!!!
💕💕
@@CaptainGlack keep up with the consistent uploads my friend and you'll grow a lot more, and we'll deserved btw
IT'S FUCKING SHITE!!!!!
Oh that's a great idea 😂
Yet another banger of a video
Always good to see you in the comments!
I'm going to use OpenIV at some point to try to see if these pages are textures with additional programming to simulate hyperlinks or whether the game straight-up includes an HTML engine. The proof will be in whether there are HTML files reflecting these pages found within the game's assets.
I forgot how cool GTA 4's map was.
Eddie Low also comments on the Strangers map.
1:44 DippyDave's comment couldn't be anymore true
you will love Hypnospace Outlaw
Shoulda ended it by going on little lacy suprise pageant website and getting the discord mod experience. 😅😂🤣
GTA5 may have the better internet but it dropped the ball on a lot that GTA4 did much better like NPC AI, Ragdoll Physics, Combat System/Mechanics, the Atmosphere & Storyline, the Map, No scummy MTXs or Shart Cards, having a Vigilante Mode and the fact it actually had Single-Player DLC.
The Wild Traveler radio broadcast in San Andreas was absolutely HILARIOUS!! The talk radio in SA was one of my favorite stations some of the shit they'd talk about was totally bonkers. 😂
You forgot to turn off Pure Pool in the background, please continue to do so in every future video.
I used to get on GTA IV's Internet just to get some inspiration for Twitter 😂😂😂
Little Cigar, the whole random text posts you can see I would just copy and paste it on X 😂😂
New Sub
Welcome aboard! Glad to have you here!
As a kid I'd spend hours looking at this internet, then when GTA 5 came out I was so disappointed by it's version of the internet, just felt so much less funny and interesting
have you bought a proper computer yet ?
Oh yes I've got it! this 4070 has so far eaten everything I've thrown at it.
😂 the internet is a wonderful place especially in gta 😅🎉🏆👍🏼
You missed my best Part, about the Linux People.
I need see you play this game and talk with your suscribers in a direct CaptainGlack. That be amazing ❤
0:49 LOL
Eddie low posted the strangers page
Eddie was done for animal cruelty at age 9!
Wish more games did that.
Which website was the one that gives you wanted stars?
Shoot out to the Glory Hole Theme Park
A Thousand Words I think is a spoof of Tumblr and it was full of all sorts of things mainly porn and blogs and porn blogs. Blog Snobs is probably Blog Spot.
GTA 5 Eyefind is also good.
Are you perhaps a fan of pool?
Stumbled upon the beauty pagent website. Funniest shit. Some website for a kids beauty pagent that is being monitered by the FIB. A warning is displayed on opening stating a detective is en-route to your location. On exiting the site, you have a four star wanted level. Thought the idea was too funny and well executed.
I played TBoGT DLC years ago and went on the internet in this game, now... I don't know if I was dreaming or seeing things. But I was able to search anything, like I could surf the web. I didn't know if the game connected to the actual internet back then to do this, but if what I witnessed was true. That would be epic and beyond our innovations.
GTA: Frutiger City
I remember when I was browsing the Krapea site, and audibly gasped when I reached the botton of the page and in big bold capital letters it read KRAPEA, but without the letters K and A.
This is a brilliant fantastic awesome amazing video on TH-cam i love it 😀❤♥💜😍 Also i love Video Games 🎮 Also i love The GTA Video Games 🎮 And also i love The GTA Video Game 🎮 GTA4
What do you mean Nico is 30 years old??
