IKEA PAX LED INSTALL
Description
Part 2 to the IKEA PAX CLOSET makeover.
This video gives a little more detail on how I added LED lights to Ikea Pax closet.
Govee LEDs bought from Amazon. 6500k Day light
Simple DIY but well worth the effort and money to upgrade the closet.

    Very good video, best part you gave the code numbers of the items so it’s easy to note down rather than searching in ikea and get exhausted.

    • @xacresestate

      Hiya, we used the flappy backing to get the fabric measurements. Standard fabric roll for us was 58" from our local fabric shop, just measured the height on the cabinet and added a couple inches for good measure and off cuts. we bought WAY more than we needed but can use them on pillows or something lol GL!

  • @melindahaiden

    with the fabric you were not worried about mounting these to the wall itself? like ikea says it needs to be? wouldnt they fall over eventually? currently my husband I just bought our system and did NOT wanna install the backing it came with.. so this gives me a GREAT idea.. what is the exact measurement for the fabric u bought? thanks for the help! :)

    • @xacresestate

      Thank you! The fabric store we have here locally has a standard width for fabric rolls, our roll was 58" wide and we knew we had the 8' cabinets so we bought enough to cover the full length +/- a couple inches.( times 8 cabinets). You can still install the backing if you want after the fabric, one thing we didnt try was gluing the fabric to the backing but that might work as well. I secured the cabinets to the side walls and on top of the cabinets to the walls, didnt use ikea's metal brackets to secure to the wall inside the cabinet.. if it was 1 or 2 free standing cabinets it might have, but 4 screwed together wasn't going anywhere, although I did secure it to the walls above the cabinets for good measure. Best of luck with yours, Hope it turns out awesome!

  • @softbreeze941

    For real did you not put the original backing ti the cabinets and left it just with this canvas? I don't see any other diagonals either - this has to be the flimsiest closet ever made :O

    • @xacresestate

      Yea I think the fabric might be more sturdy then the original backing from ikea lol. Once they were screwed together it was solid. I didn't show it in the video but was also glued and screwed to the side and back walls from top. Can see some of it in the LED video. Thanks

    Won't you lose a lot of the light in the lower cupboard once the top shelves have things on them?

    • @xacresestate

      So far so good! but we didn't over crowd the top shelves for that reason ( just a purse, a hats, a basket etc). The lights are also so close to the front of the cabinets that the light up the opposite side of the closet as well, that wasn't planned but the light works for the walkway and spills over to the other side. The LEDs make a massive difference vs just the chandelier alone. Also made a short with chandlier light on then turned on the LEDs and you can see the difference. Hope that helps!

    This is the very basic way to add LEDs to a surface. It is very cheap looking. Spend some time and use channels and routers.

    • @xacresestate

    • @TheFakeyCakeMaker

      It doesn't look that bad and very much depends on the look you're going for/what your goal is. I think it's a great way to add light for not very much money and doesn't detract from the beauty of the wardrobes. Definitely didn't cheapen them.

    • @xacresestate

      Yep agree, something we noticed once we added the fabric was the lack of lateral support! We knew it was going to be screwed together so we didn't but in hindsight could have just added the backing for a little more support! Thanks!

  • @ChronicallyIllandCrafty

    You did a great job, and the video was helpful, but I just installed a Pax system on one small wall of my closet that cost me $800. I think the “$1000 budget” in the picture for the video was a bit misleading since there is no way you did this all for that much. I would guess its more around the $2,000 range?

    • @xacresestate

      Thank you! Yes you are correct :) I was going to blur out the budget costs but couldn't find a way to do it on canva. The bill at Ikea for us was around $2,200 CDN ($1600 USD) (This was also close to 2 years ago). However this included the wooden shelves that we eventually replaced with glass (more money). The cost also doesn't include things like; Handles, crown molding, baseboards, LED lights, the fabric backing, mirrors, chandelier (we reused) or all the trim work. Hope yours turned out awesome!
