RETURNAL | R_A.0786 Derelict Citadel [100% Complete // Full Level] (HDR) NO DAMAGE, NO HIT?
Two goals guide my approach to the Derelict Citadel this time around: (1) escort my Sparking Leadskin Parasite to level's end unharmed; and (2) find a weapon suitable for the Nemesis encounter.
In theory, surviving the Derelict Citadel with my Sparking Leadskin intact is feasible. However, innumerable threats stand between me and this goal. For instance, the footwork of this area is demanding and pervasive. I face no fewer than eight footwork gauntlets in this recording, meaning that this arrangement of the Derelict Citadel features more footwork than the Overgrown Ruins and Crimson Wastes combined. Beyond that, the Drones of this biome roam freely on the z-axis, making the cover I find (and the safety it provides) questionable at best. This concern is compounded by my wielding a Dreadbound, as errant attacks against these hard-to-hit hostiles will leave me slowed and, at range, defenceless until my Shards return.
Beyond that, a Dreadbound can overcome Nemesis, the biome's boss, but is ill-suited to the task. Consequently, each and every Container I find is opened as I search for a more suitable weapon. I discard those whose Traits will not aid me (anything that bolsters Protection or heals Selene, such as Hardened or Leech Rounds, is worthless to me, as are those Traits designed to handle groups of hostiles, like Retarget or Shrapnel). As I begin the biome's penultimate encounter at 22:21, I am worried: Nemesis is mere moments away and I have yet to find a worthy weapon. The Rotgland Lobber of 1:53 will do, but to shift from a Dreadbound to something that needs Overloading-and has an Enlarged Chamber-is suboptimal. Alternately, the Hollowseeker of 23:40 is appealing, but the visual and auditory pollution it will create when used increases the likelihood of my missing a key detail at a critical moment. As a result, I settle for the Thermogenic Launcher of 24:01; its Full Auto pairs well with my Overload Rush artifact and Trackerswarm works well in the Nemesis fight.
All told, I am satisfied: three biomes completed and my Sparking Leadskin emerges unscathed. To see what happens next, follow me into the Echoing Ruins with next week's video. See you then!

You may laugh, but the hardest part about writing this description (and the ones I'm currently crafting for the five full-biome recordings that will soon follow) was editing it down to fit into TH-cam's 5000-character limit.       The Spitmaw Blaster is far from RETURNAL's best weapon, but it certainly numbers among my favourites-especially when it has both Explosive Spit and Slug Shot! Had I been rushing to clear this Containment Room (rather than playing around with melee attacks against hostiles on the z-axis and re-learning the attacks in Rounds II and III), I suspect I could have lifted the lockdown in about sixty seconds.

    i cannot aim for shit with this weapon, more so with full auto on it, i go from okish aim to trash aim, loving me some dreadbound and cheese shredder

      There's a lot happening in that corner! Initially, there's an attack I dodge by dashing backwards at the last moment, then there's the melee attack that kills one Lamiadon while simultaneously intercepting-and thereby preventing-the attack another. All told, it was very fortunate for me to walk away from that encounter unharmed.

      Depending on when you played RETURNAL, this area may not have been accessible. The Tower of Sisyphus was added to RETURNAL with the ASCENSION DLC, released (for free) on 2022 March 22.     Dreadbound at any level with Expanding & Exploding shards level 3 is the most broken thing in this entire game, the AOE you can get from it is genuinely absurd. I doubt anybody makes it this far in the tower without that combo because it will wipe all weak ads with ease on every floor in seconds, without even needing to try, just shoot it kills everything.

      This recording, made 2022 April 7, pre-dates the patch that guaranteed "Hostiles counter on hit" as the fifth (and final) Permanent Malfunction.

      Thank you for the compliment! Were I to hazard a guess, I suspect the difference between your setup and mine is that I'm playing on an HDR-capable television set. (For my first several months with RETURNAL, I was playing on an older set that, while capable of 1080p, did little to show what the PlayStation 5 could truly do. I couldn't believe the difference after upgrading to a 4K HDR television.) If that isn't the case, let me know; we can compare settings and, hopefully, get your gameplay looking just as good!

    Coilspine is the most underrated weapon. Once you get those traits leveled up it literally shreds enemies. Mycomorph in one or two hits, same for Titanops & Kerberonyx. Even in Abyss it'll two shot most mini-bosses except the Malformed will take 3 or 4. Love this gun once you get the reload timing down is amazing. Edit: your you're not even taking full advantage by charging your shots which does much more damage. Harder to keep your aim, but does more than double damage.

      The Coilspine Shredder is an oddity. It is misunderstood and underused while simultaneously overrepresented in the Tower of Sisyphus, what with the state of RETURNAL after the latest (and, in all likelihood, last) few patches. Thank you for your comments; welcome to the Archive!

      @@returnalarchive The Tower is where I learned to use it. Melts stagger bar too, which is great in Tower. Dreadbound too is misunderstood, but really good if you learn how to utilize it.

    You’re amazing My record currently is only 36.7 million I work at it every day. Going through some stuff so I can’t be properly active and this game is really amazing. Just got my ps5 in October and returnal was one of the first games I got. 160 hours of playtime already! I’ll be top 1000 one day very soon !

Specifically, the Tower of Sisyphus was added to RETURNAL with the ASCENSION DLC, released for free on 2022 March 22.     How do you collect obolites só easily from the enemies? Like they all appear right next to you and all together to collect, for me they just bash to the ground and go further away so I have to run around to collect and they eventually disappear

      I sympathize. Of RETURNAL's many hostiles, the Frost Severed of the Fractured Wastes have killed me more than any other. Thankfully, I learned how to dodge their teleportation attack. Keep at it, and you will, too!
