RETURNAL | R_A.0768 Overgrown Ruins [Melee + Tachyomatic Carbine] (HDR) NO DAMAGE

Housemarque's RETURNAL celebrates its third birthday on 2024 April 30. Between now and then, new content will be posted to the Archive to mark this milestone. This content consists of clips recorded in previous years that had been overlooked, as well as gameplay footage recorded recently when, missing my adventures on Atropos, I picked up a PlayStation 5 controller once again and set out as Selene in search of some sort of salvation. Thereafter, on April 30 itself and weekly through June 4, all-new, full-biome runs will be shared to celebrate this gem of a game.
The encounter of this tile does not go as I anticipated it would. Despite wanting to be on the offensive, I find myself facing a wall of stiff resistance immediately. Unable to punch through line arrayed against me, I am pushed back and mobbed by the fast-moving Lamiadon swarm and the Mycomorph pair present. Seeing as I am now on the defensive, I take care to accomplish a number of things. First, I give thanks for the Tachyomatic Carbine I carry. It is fully automatic and fast-firing, allowing me to chip away at the health of the hostiles hounding me. Second, I apply alt-fire Tendrilpod where I can, ensuring the set of Mycomorph attacking me are afflicted with a source of ongoing damage. Third, and most importantly, I am extremely mindful of when I Dash, knowing that even one ill-timed dodge will result in Selene suffering harm. Combined, these three things allow me to escape this frantic encounter unscathed.

There's a lot happening in that corner! Initially, there's an attack I dodge by dashing backwards at the last moment, then there's the melee attack that kills one Lamiadon while simultaneously intercepting-and thereby preventing-the attack another. All told, it was very fortunate for me to walk away from that encounter unharmed.
