The best 34ft sailboat money can buy or is it?
มุมมอง 9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The Halberg Rassy 340 in our opinion is one of the best sub 40ft sailboats money can buy. When looking for a small bluewater mid 30 ft sailboat there are few that stand out on the market more than the HR 340. Let me know what you think?

Better than before our 2024 full tour of the CONTEST 49CS, this one is hard to miss in a world of blue water cruisers. The 49CS is an aft cockpit yacht that arose from a demand for a bigger version of the popular Contest 42CS and is a contender to match the Oyster 495.

Hallberg-Rassy 400 would be my second choice after the Hallberg-Rassy 340 I have ordered and am waiting to be built. Can’t wait. The book Magnus offers would be lovely to have. Please 🙏🏻
I really like the videos and content. One question. What boat would you recommend for single hand live aboard for two people.
🤔 The forward hatches are over the owner’s forward birth. Where are the sail and anchor chain lockers?
Over take Port or Starboard
As always perfect video.
Thanks, glad you liked it. Nice boat but a little on the big side?
PS. Great to give the E Winch Handle another mention, they make a lot of sense, and those are on my shopping list now, and I’ll tell them that they came highly recommended by you. Bob.👍🌟🌟🌟❤️⛵️
We are testing the new one next week on a sea trial for you guys and us, so we will work it hard and see what it is capable of.
Damn. Only two things totally wreck this boat for me, one unfixable - a shallow draft of 6 ft 7 inches, and a fixable massive NONO that Cockpit Mainsheet Track.it’s a bit of a lightweight for cruising in comfort, but that can be mostly fixed with careful, positioning of tankage. Basically too much Sailboat Racing orientation, and nowhere near Cruising orientation - the typical Modern Med Sailboat problem. It’s a very big World outside the Med,with a hell of a lot of Shallow Waters in it,and all of these Med Boat Sailboat Designers need to go Cruising around them for at least a few years in my honest opinion. They might well learn something useful along the way ? yet another great boat tour of a boat with a lot to like about it.🤔🌟🌟🌟❤️⛵️🏴🇬🇧
PS. I’ve just emailed them, to see if they are interested in building me an actual shallow Draft - 4ft 6 inch- sith accustom Lead Wing keel, plus other things to accommodate disability, so fingers crossed. I do like Swedish stuff in general, like Saab Turbo 900 cars,Sako and Tikka rifles, plus my absolute favourite Match grade Varberger Rifle in .243 Winchester - talk about a tack driver! It even outshot my Browning A Bolt in 7mm-08, though I actually got my qualified Advanced Marksman with the Browning. That was a great week of testing with an SAS Sniper instructor.a great guy who got killed by an IED roadside bomb in Afghanistan. RIP Buddy. Bob.😌
I like Arcona, and have been lucky to have sailed a few’ but yes you are right they are definitely more on the racing cruiser side than the blue water sailing. Swedish manufacturers tend to be either full on blue water world domination or med boats only. I find it a little frustrating sometimes, just thought you might like to know we have a sea trial of the Allubat OVNI 370 on Monday.
@@SVTONICBoatWives Have a great day out with the sea trial, looking forward to seeing how it went. I think it was worth sending an enquiry to Arcona, as if they are prepared to work with Custom Lead Wing Keel fitting, it can only make their market larger by being able to offer a genuine Shallow Draft boat. Stripping off the counterproductive Racing DooDahs in favour of sensible Cruising setups, would be a piece of cake to be honest. That 435 can easily get turned into a low stressed comfortable Cruising Sailboat imho. Not had a reply yet though. Still lots of good enough to get on with are due to come into the market soon, ex charter Beneteau group , and cheap enough to get a Mast Swap done. I’d like to get some work done in the UK, so I can pick up some Seago stuff, like a Tender, Lifejackets, etc, plus maybe get Garmin electronics fitted and upgrade the rigging and get a new suit of Sails etc. in a few months, we could be living in a much better World tbh, now it’s hust getting from here to there. Best Wishes. Bob. PS. If I don’t make it (it looks like some stuff I can perhaps only do on the other side and I’m OK either way ) Have a very long and Happy Prosperous Life. 👍🌟🌟🌟🙂⛵️🏴🇬🇧❤️
Hi there, it’s me fussy pants Bob again. There are some points in favour of the aft cockpit grill.but personally I much prefer to have side rails of Stainless steel tubes to the Stanchions instead of wires, which allow secure and safe mounting of a proper gas fired BBQ, which means I can make full use of a high quality Smoker Box ? The difference is phenomenal and you can use both the various types of wood chips that are available, along with wood chunks you can get from Driftwood on pretty much any Beach ? Smoked Hot Dogs alone are worth the difference, then you can add smoked Cheese, smoked meats, and hot smoked fish to kill all the damned parasites that are in Raw Fish. The flavours are to absolutely Die for, can you get them with that aft Cockpit Grill ?nope hou can’t. To be honest, there is a large electric George Foreman Grill, I’d rather have on the Cockpit table, to do Panini ham, cheese etc hot cooked rolls with tbh. Apologies for being a fussy pants again, but I really like tasty food. Dad watched the film about a Chef doing a food wagon Tour doing Panini Rolls, said those look really good, so I found a George Foreman Grill that could do them easily, so bought one, and it was brilliant. Could do them sort of in those rear cockpit grills, but not both sides at once ? Y the look of it, and two sides at once seems to be important.🤔 There’s still a lot to like about the 41, and especially the 44, and it’s a damned shame I can’t get one of the 44’s to fit what I need. Looks like I’ll be getting something from Beneteau Group to be honest. Best Wishes, Fair Winds and Safe Travels. Bob.🤔🌟🌟🌟❤️⛵️🏴🇬🇧PS, hopefully this will make you laugh as much as I have been. The Nurses and doctors have prescribed me special Fish Net Stockings to assist my Blood Circulation. Choice of Colour Black or Brown ones.🤣🤣🤣🤡👍🌟🌟🌟⛵️🏴🇬🇧🤔🤣🤣🤣
Hi fussy pants, nothing wrong here except I am very hungry now. I think I might send a plane for you so you can rustle up a delicious foodie delight please.
@@SVTONICBoatWives I’ve got a brilliant Australian Charcoal BBQ plus a great Snoker Box, but really the food needs to go straight from the BBQ and into the plate. I can’t even get to an airport at the moment, as still waiting for my feet to heal, plus those Fish Net stockings to improve my circulation. 🤣🤣🤣. Still, Events on a Biblical scale appear to be shaping up, so sailboat plus installed BBQ heading for staging ready for a crossing South of Cape Verde any time from December, if I’m still alive.I’ll probably have to employ a skipper and crew for insurance cover until I can arrange what’s needed in the Caribbean. Can you recommend anyone? Could be a nice trip for people needing to renew their Skippers licence or Certificate of Competence etc. Still, best laid plans of White Mice and all that. Best Wishes. Bob. PS. Hmm, I wonder if my neighbour, an ex Superyacht Chef would like a Sailboat trip ? Her Catering was pretty decent.🤔🌟🌟🌟👍

Yes, you can if you wish.

@@veronicalau1734, it sounds like you have a plan, are you going to get some experience on the water before you purchase a boat?
@@SVTONICBoatWives yes I definitely need to get some experience before purchasing anything. It's more of a long game. It won't be while until I can purchase something but it's been exciting to see your videos and beginning my research into sailing.
What a great boat. I am now torn between the Garcia Exploration 45 and the Ovni 430. Any views or preferences in comparison?

Good morning, Thank you very much for this video of Boreal (Probably my favorite boats). I imagine I wasn't the only one who asked you this, but thank you again. If you could make a navigation video on the 47.2, it would be even better for the sweet dreamer that I am! :) Finally, the story of Jean Francois DELVOYE, creator of the shipyard and current architect, is just incredible and fascinating, you could perhaps make it a subject. Thank you again for your content, broad objectives or not, and good luck! (sorry for my English)
Thank you for watching and we are chuffed you like the video. As it happens we are currently in touch with Boreal in northern France trying to arrange a sea trial on one of their yachts, it all depends on availability. Watch this space and feel free to message us again in a few weeks - hopefully we will have news back from the shipyard! x
Nav station?
what about it? do you relly need one on a boat like this?

Looks like a club med apartment with a mast on it …. Good video/ review
18 to 30 holidays loved club med when we were younger and beautiful
Great walktrough. Great job. My only real big deal breaker is that it dont come in a shallow draft version.
i like this 1 , its not too big not too small just perfect for solo or 1 couple
I think that is one of its selling points, good for one but perfect for two. 🤩😜
the welds at 3:38 are probably a joke.
Thanks for the quality presentation and review.🙏🏻
thank you.
Whenever I compare Amel, Oyster and Contest, Amel 50 always comes out on top by a wide margin. As for me, I love Rustler's quality and design, but Rustler does not make boats that are 48-50 feet long. At this rate, Amel shipyard will succeed in carrying out a legal robbery on my bank account. Even though it is difficult, I continue to resist, I hope the rustler will make a revolution.
I share your love for Rustler they are fantastic sailboats, but Amel are beautiful two. 🤩🥰
Linda embarcação!

i dont know if it's just my headset but only my left ear has audio.

Sounds like you have a good project on the go? I appreciate your time and comments, if it wasn't for you and our other subscribers we wouldn't get to do as many as we can.
Great VID :)
Thanks
I enjoy your tours, but let’s be honest, it is only nuances that differentiate one forty foot boat from another and many nuances can probably be changed with options. What I have realised is that no matter how big, or how much money you spend on a production sailing boat you don’t get more refinement by spending more money - you just get more gadgets. With production motor vehicles, the more you spend, the quieter is the engine and the more refined is the ride. With production sailboats, no matter how much money you spend, the rattle of the diesel engine is ever present and the ride is always creaky. Just how much do you have to spend to get comfort AND refinement?
Do the fittout yourself as I am is one option. I’m getting my head around a lifting keel that was intergral in the build. Cheers David
Sadly this is true and I think twice the amount will get the refinement mentioned, from what I have seen
Dufour don’t do a lifting keel do they?
Hallberg-Rassy, Oyster, Amel, Contest, Hylas, Island Packet, Nordship, Allures, Garcia... Ride is not creaky with any of these boats, because systems are tabbed into the hull and not just dropped in as modules. Hull/deck joints are continuous or at the very least much more stout. I've been in an Amel in 30kt winds and it's as quiet as a library. As with cars, higher build quality costs more money.
Great Tour by the way. Bob.👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
Thanks your kind, I am not happy with the videos of late and will admit to rushing them out so quality is down. Don't despair though as we have some test sails coming up for you and everyone else. Happy days.
@@SVTONICBoatWives Hard to avoid being rushed with people who are waiting to get a look around themselves, but you still manage to convey a good insight into the tours. Well done imho. Bob.👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
My only grouch is those large one piece skylights which are an expensive pain in the derrière when they fail and need changing, but which should be an easy preventative fix during construction to opt for easy fix standard square skylights instead.if Dufour will even talk to you as a customer. Having found a manufacturer of high quality Custom lead wing keels, they asked me to approach the builder directly for guidance on how to proceed with facilitating the order for a Dufour 44. In response, all I have received is crickets. So no order from me for a Dufour of any size. Hoping Dufour purchasers have a hell of a lot more success than I have experienced. As an aside, the Agents were Rubbish as well sadly. ☹️ Best Wishes.Bob. Still, on a brighter note, Silver Bullion is starting to take off, so getting a boat in the near future, is now in sight, after a long wait.🙂👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
Strange about the Dufour brokers not contacting you, still their loss. If silver is on the up then it's time to start designing your boat?
@@SVTONICBoatWives On enquiring if they could facilitate a Custom lead wing keel, they responded with only a standard not very shallow shoal draft was available, and clearly weren’t interested in supplying what a customer needed for a sailboat based in the Caribbean - I didn’t even get to the point of a enquiring for an ICW bridge height compliant Mast Height. Still, it is looking as though something with a shallow enough Draft for me to live with, is likely available from group Beneteau, if a little shorter LOA than I’d like.a terrific beam with a great underwater hull design , should provide something Comfy enough, with enough Solar Panel capacity, plus the room for decent battery storage banks. Maximum heeling angle in all sea conditions is only 15 degrees, and so far, I’ve got a selection of three 2020 models, plus some much cheaper from earlier years, all with three cabin two head layouts with great non linear aft quarter galleys next to the companionway with good support for wedging into safely. All do need a Mast switch to in mast furling though, which shouldn’t be a significant problem, though , unless one from the USA appears, which has in mast furling and a very shallow Draft as standard. Due to the single rudder, sailing at night off the USA East Coast, shouldn’t be too hazardous as that will be a frequent trip to and from the Caribbean and Massachusetts friends. Still, see how it goes, and overnight stopovers in the ICW are ok if the Lobster and Crab Pot fields do turn out not to be worth the risk of night time sailing, even with a single rudder. I’m rambling on enthusiastically again sorry, as next Sailboat is finally starting to appear through the Fog. Silver Bullion price looks finally poised for some massive breakouts.Fingers crossed it was only £5 an ounce when I bought it 👍. Bob.🤔🌟🌟🌟❤️
first love the vids
Thanks 😁
Looks like a boat for the arctic where your expecting stuff to break. Brutal and functional similar to a luxury fishing boat. Don’t think you’d fit in on the med though….
Sailing used to be getting from A to B using the wind. Where does all this useless plastic crap go at end of life? I love the Ocean and sailing but sailors need to realise they are part of the problem.
REally nice boat. Wish they had a shallow draft version, like under 160cm, perhaps double keel.
Whats are the drawback on aluminium? I heard some youtube comments that aluminium can rust?
No real drawbacks at all, As it's aluminium it doesn't rust like steel what it will do is oxidise on the surface which adds a layer of protection to the aluminium prolonging the life of your hull.
is this boat appropriate for one person to sail?
Yes,
Good explanation, There is no reazon to be extremely expensive. but the Spade is much more efective than they whant you to know... I know what im talking about, i have a Spade👍 ♠️ 4ever💪
Hi Mario, how's it going? Spades work and if set well are ok;) All we are showing is how Ultramarine has evolved and fixed many of the issues of the anchor. Our boat will be set up with an ultramarine as we trust the anchor and gear. If you are happy with yours and trust it then that is what matters by the way I like the choice of boat, the 473 is a superb boat. fair winds. 🤩😁😜
Great review, thank you! Did I spot a Bestevaer from KM yachts tucked in behind the Boreal? Must have been exciting to compare alle the aluminum yachts next to each other!
Yes, It was one of the better boat shows I've been to for a while. It is not big but loads of different yachts for a change;
You should drink before every boat tour! Always do a great job with the boat tours, but this one was extra entertaining.
I'll keep that in mind. 😁😜
Hallberg Rassy 400. Late ;-)
Thats ok
So does the walk around take away from the cockpit space or is the 350 wider than the 349 to account for that?
I agree that the space and layout compete with a catamaran. However, for east coast USA and Bahamas, the draft is untenable
