Totally agree with you about certain TH-camrs talking bad all the time about European production yachts, it is pretty ridiculous. I’ll take any modern production yacht before one of their beloved full keel super heavy plastic classics

I know boats aren't built like they used to be, and yes, sometimes they do deserve some stick but time and materials move on. It is hard to see a lot of TH-camrs pull them apart without being objective about the boat, anyway, rant over and thank you for your support.😁😇🤩

@@SVTONICBoatWives old boats were overbuilt because they had no real clue about the longevity properties of GRP. I totally agree with you that production boats are built to a price point but structurally I trust what the big production brands are doing. Keep up the reviews, great work!

@@SVTONICBoatWives I just realised that it is now the 60th anniversary of me starting Sailing in the Mirror Dinghy my Father built from plans he got from the Daily Mirror Newspaper. Wow time sure flies. But it confirms me as a Classic Sailor, who started Sailing when Classic Boats were Current Production, and so far, every Sailboat I have owned or Crewed on has been Classic. But I now have no option but to recognise that Classic Sailboats are no longer a good Fit for 71 year old Vintage Me. One that would definitely still work for me, is an Island Packet, with a careful selection of what is available off the standard Construction options List, and particularly because most can be opted for, at no extra Charge. But Fussy Pats me, could make some Production Boats Woek for me as well, but my now voiced list of Complaints is seriously getting in the way, and it's a brief list as a Cruiser Cruiser - the serious over emphasis on Sailboat Racing, Deep Drafts, and Twin Rudders plus I suppose, and as much as anything due to UV damage to Sailcloth which isn't just restricted to the Tropics, which makes in Mast Furling Mainsails pretty much indispensable. So I freely admit to batching and whining about what I call Meditteranean Spec Sailboats wreckingbthe design of too many Production Sailboats, when solutions kike Lead Wing Keels have been known about now for quite a long time. I need a 4ft 6 inch Draft, and a Mast height that can work with a 6 db gain Shakespeare antenna on top of it for the bridge heights on the CW waterway on the East Coast of the USA . Are these things seriously too much to ask for ? Seems so right now. 🤔 Bob. Best Wishes. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️

@@FrankNolf The maximum service life of Polyester away from Direct UV Light exposure is about 90 years for underground plastics. if on the surface, and exposed to UV Light, you are looking at 12 months. Elan skis are not cheap, they are always excellent. I am coming around to Elan as a serious contender under consideration, the GT6 suits most of our wish list. Thanks for you tours and thoughts. The infusion, the tabbed in sandwich laminated bulkheads, and the design aesthetics are great. Maybe a trip to the Slovenian alps.

Very nice Tour. I was a very big fan of the Impression 434. Nice to See the lack of Timber on Deck, very much liked the Crates of Wine Cellar in the foredeck, occasionally wasted on use as a Sail Locker. Very nice indeed down below, and very good to see the hugely cleaned up timber work (they did gothrough an awful phase of seriously Knotty Pine effect ), nice galley, plus the port and Starboard settee Berths (not a fan of Captain's Chairs frankly, as a bit of a waste of space at the cost of losing comfortable passage Berths ). A very nice thing with Elan - they do keep potential customers in the communications loop - I enquired as to whether they would build me an Impression 434 (single rudder plus shallow Draft, with in Mast Furling - they wouldn't ) but they do send me email updates on n new models , which is nice. Overall, a very nice Med Spec Sailboat ? 🤔 Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️

I like you am a fan, they have worked hard to keep their boats moving forward with the times and at the same time keeping the racing DNA. The team at Elan are always friendly and willing to help which is more than can be said about some other brands. As you say though it is a good med boat. I know you have your idea of what you want for a boat but have you looked at the Alubat OVNI 490?

Something which for me is important too, which may seem small is the standard inclusion of Stainless Steel Cleats, rather than Aluminium which I don’t like at all, and which I swap out for Stainless Steel ones. Little details like that really add up. Best Wishes.Bob.🤔🌟🌟🌟⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧❤

PS. For clarification, my issue with aluminium Cleats *May* be restricted to one's that are Cast, and which are brittle ? I trod on one which was broken and sharp, which badly cut my foot- yeah I know, should have been wearing deck shoes - But this may not apply if the Cleats have been Drop Forged ? I won't chance it, I'll replace with Stainless Steel Cleats instead tbh. Regarding that Cut, it wouldn't have been so bad if it had happened after I made a point of having antiseptic Wipes with Superglue and accelerator spray in at least the Main First Aid Kit. It's better than stitches. 👍 Bob. ❤️

Hi Guys. I suppose when a picture is worth a thousand words, the following video of a South Pacific Atoll, explains perfectly why I need a 4 ft 6 inch Draft Wing Keel to facilitate anchoring inside a reef for shelter, when the J 45 and another boat had to Anchor outside the reef because they both had deep Keels, or as I call them - Mediterranean Spec Draft Sailboats. Yes, care does indeed need to be taken, even with a 4 ft 6 inch Draft, but the access to extra places it facilitates, is pretty staggering :

On a revisit, it is only fair to say that Elon are capable of building outstanding quality Yachts, and the interior below deck design and build has improved dramatically over the terrible “knotty pine” phase they recently went through, and which appeared on even their boat show boats. However, Elan did refuse point blank to build me what I need, despite it supposedly being a still in production model - an Impression 434 with a single rudder, a very shallow draft and a forward 4th cabin Bunk room as an easy conversion into a workshop. They’ve gone far too much Racing influence, and nowhere near enough cruising influence, in my honest opinion. They may change direction in the future though, and as I am still on their mailing list, I’ll keep my fingers crossed . Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍⛵️❤️

PS. 53 gallons US, is equivalent to just over 200 litres if I remember right. I'd personally go for the 80 horsepower option as that brings with it the option for the much better ZF Saildrive, eta : which do bring with the ZF various options such as auto docking, 360 degree rotation and such that some people may like. Though the formerly highly🤔 problematic Yanmar Cone Clutch does now have available the comprehensive Upgrade Kit, which pretty much sorts them out. But Shove a Flexofold Prop on the 80 hp, and you will likely get better fuel consumption and a longer range than with the Smaller engine, due to the better torque at low engine rpm for higher speed ? 🤔 Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️

@@SVTONICBoatWives So much Technology has been kept from us for so long, it's a bit of a job to predict what might be available in the near Future ? Two things the Head of the Lockheed Skumkworks have said, to me provide the greatest insights. The first was - We Now Have The Technology To Take ET Home, and much more Recently - We Are Way Part Anything You Can See on Star Trek - Which has caused me to rep3atedly rematch everything Star ztrek, along with everything from Gene Roddenberry. I think if we can actually make it through the next ten years or so, Humanity is facing a pretty Wonderful Future, if we can avoid getting stuck in the Groundhog Day style Trap that I'd the Yugas - but we should have a few thousand years to be able to dodge that danger , once we grasp the Scale of that danger. It's amazing the amount of stuff that's already available and sitting on the Shelves waiting to be used. e.g. Energy Density Enhanced Ultra Clean Synthetic Diesel Fuel rhat can never run out, and which costs pennies a gallon to make ?🤔 Best Wishes.
