Weaving Strickler 8-Shaft Draft #9 With Modifications

This is the second draft I'm weaving on this warp from "The Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns" by Carol Strickler. I take draft #9 and change the treadling a bit. The first part is a short M & W treadling and the main body is a broken twill where I skip a treadle every 8 picks. I also reverse the treadling after every 72 picks to create a chevron
The warp is a white 8/2 cotton. The weft is also 8/2 cotton, but I've used 4 different blues. This is set at 20 epi and 20 ppi. This particular draft has long floats and would probably work better at 24 epi & 24 ppi.

I've found Strickler to be a good starting point. Sampling is always recommended though when trying something new. I'll check out the Strickler FB group! Thanks for watching ❤️

What size of yarn do you use for the hem?

I'm just using the 8/2 cotton. I've found the hem isn't too bulky with 8/2 cotton but if I'm using anything thicker (like 8/4 or 5/2) I'll use a thinner yarn. I don't know how these structures will shrink so that may be a problem. If the main towel shrinks more than the hem, then the hem will be wider. We'll see when I do the final wet finishing, which will be the last video in this series. Another reason to sample! Thanks for watching.
