How to make Blueberry Grunt | Stovetop cobbler | No eggs required
No bake stovetop Blueberry Cobbler takes advantage of the wild blueberries that are easy to source in Canada. For those of us outside the great white North this is a beautiful way to serve any blueberries we can get our hands on!
Adapted from Select Nova Scotia
Serves 8
Ingredients:
Blueberries
750 grams / 1.65 pounds blueberries (wild are best)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
100 grams / ½ cup superfine/caster sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
125 milliliters / ½ cup water
Dumplings
320 grams / 2 cups plain flour, sifted
16 grams / 4 teaspoons baking powder, sifted
14 grams / 1 tablespoon superfine/caster sugar
¼ teaspoon sea or kosher salt
30 grams / 2 tablespoons butter
177 milliliters / 3/4 cup milk
Directions:
Blueberries
- Place the blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, juice and water in a saucepan and cook on low to medium until soft, approximately 20 minutes.
Dumplings
- Place the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt in a bowl and stir until combined.
- Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles course breadcrumbs than add the milk, folding until it has formed a dough.
- Spoon the dough in heaped tablespoonfuls over the blueberries and cover with a lid, simmering for 15 minutes until the dumplings have been cooked through.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes, than spoon into serving dishes.
- Serve with a little cream or scoops of ice cream.

    Very nice! May I add though, that the time-consuming and exacting steps of rolling the dough and then cutting precise squares are completely unnecessary! Just divide the dough into 16 pieces, form balls, flatten a bit with your hands, add the jam, seal closed and voila, same result!

    I appreciate your effort but Please please please ... don’t post videos of recipes done the wrong way. One thing is how you think it is done and another is how it is done the right way. 1- The sugar syrup is wrong . Yours is very thick and it has to be loose and to achieve the right consistency the syrup needs to be out of heat sooner ; 2- You don't mix all the ingredients in a batter and then chuck them in the pot with the syrup... you slightly beat the egg yolks with a fork, add the cooled but not cold sugar syrup one spoon at the time, mixing very well so the eggs don’t cook, then you add the almond flour and cinnamon. Then, take it back to cook on a medium heat (don’t stop mixing) and let it cook until it becomes a thick but soft cream. When you set up the "pillows" you put the cream (1 or 2 spoonfulls) on one end , them fold it , and fold it again. It may sound that it is the same but it is not. There is a reason why things are done in a certain way and that makes the difference .

    Adding more streusel after it's baked and eating it is eating raw flour= (bugs) and that's bad for you😢.

    Wow, that looks like a really serious hearty winter dish. I love brie, but I’ve never even seen or heard of that other cheese. Here’s why “Reblochon can no longer be imported to the USA. You will not find raw milk Reblochon in America, our overly-protectionist Food Police (FDA) have made this unfortunate change in just the past few years.” Thanks!

      Oh that's so sad as it does have a different flavor than Brie. If you can ever get to Europe - they sell Tartiflette in Christmas markets in most places so that's another way to get the flavor of this dish. Thanks,

    Apache Indians would have eaten this bread. Pueblo Indians would’ve eaten this bread and Navajo Indians would’ve also eaten this bread.
