Is this Cheap TRX4M Look-Alike Better than the Original!?
I said what I said! I think the Austar 8560 is a better RTR than the Traxxas model that it is "inspired" by.
I wanted to review this rig because I thought surely the Amazon reviews couldn't be true, but I was wildly surprised. This little truck is an absolute blast, and I would happily use it as the base for a TRX4m style build! I gotta recommend this thing because at least from the experience that I've had with it so far it seems to be a really good little truck.
I don't want to promote clones or copies of genuine products on this channel if I can help it, but when the item in question is as good as this one is I've gotta recommend it. It is VERY closely inspired by the Traxxas design though..
Anyway if you're interested in the Austar 8560 here is a link to where I got mine on Amazon. It's not branded Austar, but its the same thing with the same part numbers. You know how Amazon and Chinese products can be.

I am an Amazon affiliate so I earn a commission off of anything you buy using my links. 100% of that money goes to helping this channel grow so if you use this link, or have bought anything from any of my other links, thank you! You've helped make this channel better!
Thanks for watching and I'll see you guys in the next one!

      It’s been a while since I did this one so I hope I remember correctly. You’ve gotta remove some screws from the inside that hold the roof rack on. The whole cage thing starts to unsnap and come apart once you get that guy off. After that I just filled the holes, primed then painted it. To fill the large holes, I glued in some styrene rod, sanded, then filled with some putty and sanded again til it was smooth. Smaller holes are just filled with putty. I used Mr Hobby white putty, but there are several options out there. I hope this was helpful!

      Hmm, I would suggest getting some because I’m not sure what you’ll be able to sand smooth in there. You can pick up the Tamiya kind online pretty cheap. Hobby lobby has a few types too. Just make sure to primer it well and use a nice clear after paint and you’ll be good!

    I agree with your bang for the buck assessment. Got one off Ali during their site-wide sales in November for $49, shipping included. However...it did take two months to finally arrive. It’s the OG model with the larger 60mm Super Swamper tires, but so far the servo has been adequate. Just added aftermarket wheels, some brass up front, and 59mm oil shocks (swapped in the rtr 53mm springs to allow it to sit lower and articulate smoother). So $80-90 all in, and a lot of performance for the price.

    I just installed the 370 motor/gearbox and am also unimpressed by how open the trans is. Has it been a problem for you? Found any tidy way to close it up a bit? Mine also mounts to the skid with just two screws on the short end of the gearbox. My stock steering is very course and limited in its cycling, think the SOA will help?

    • @Bash_TheStampede
      @Bash_TheStampede 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I haven’t found any good way to close up the gear box, I have just let it be and haven’t had any issues yet. I still don’t love the way it’s designed but it hasn’t done anything to validate my concern. I like the servo on axle setup. I don’t think I had any issues with the stock setup but the servo on axle setup works very nicely and puts that servo weight right over the front axle. It IS a little bit of a bear to install without instructions but with a little time and patience I think anyone could get it done. Thanks for watching!

I wish they would have made more changes with the TRX4MT as well. It would have been great with open diffs and more power. Hopefully we will see something new soon! For now, with the money you’re willing to spend you should check out some 1/10th scale stuff if you’re into it. The mini guys are fun but 1/10th performance is a whole different ball game!

    My shock has failed, is there a way to refill them?

    • @Bash_TheStampede
      @Bash_TheStampede หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, definitely! Just take the shock cap off and fill it up. The shock cap is the part on top that the screw goes through. On most shocks you’ll take the spring off, then unscrew the shock cap and fill it up almost all the way with oil. After it’s full you can move the shock shaft up and down slowly to help get the air bubbles out. Finally, with the shock shaft pressed all the way in, you screw the shock cap back on. After the cap is back on you can check for any resistance when you move the shock shaft. If there is any, just compress the shock and loosen the cap until the shock compresses all the way, then check resistance again. Eventually you’ll bleed all the air and excess oil out and have a nice working shock! Sorry if this was confusing! I should really do a general shock rebuilding video. I do rebuild shocks in a video I made called TRX4M Maintenance Part 1. It’s a mini shock but the process is the same. Maybe check that out if you get confused! I hope this was helpful!

      Furitek Micro Komodo on 3S with the stock gear ratio. It could technically be faster if I went with speed gears.

    For their size, they are very capable. People need to remember that size is the biggest factor in capability. A 1/32 will always be outperformed by a 1/24. A 1/24 kyosho will always be out performed by a “1/24” (1/20) scx24. An scx24 will always be outperformed by a “1/18” (1/14) UTB18 capra, and that will always be outperformed by a 1/10. And of course the 1/10 will always lose to a 1:1.

    • @Bash_TheStampede
      @Bash_TheStampede หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally agree, I was actually pretty blown away by how well the little Jimny handled the outdoor trail! I think as long as the environment is fitting for the size of the Kyosho It'll exceed expectations. I think another thing to factor in is that Kyosho didn't build a rock crawler here, especially with the Jimny. Its an awesome scale representation of the real thing and that's kind of the point of it more than everything else imo. I hope that I didn't give the impression that I was expecting hardcore rock crawling performance haha I just wanted to show what NOT to expect it to do. Also, side note: I'm pretty into Mini-Z class racing and I watch your channel all the time! Just box stock and super stock for now, but I've watched a lot of your reviews because I'd like to get into the open class at my club.

    • @TheShopMiniRC
      @TheShopMiniRC หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bash_TheStampede yeah, I wasn’t suggesting you were giving the wrong impression, I was kinda agreeing and just reiterating for people that size is the biggest performance factor. I agree. I picked up the Jeep back in November when HH had them at $99, and I love the scale detail Kyosho puts into these. It’s not the best performing mini crawler, but you can’t expect it to be since it’s one of the smallest at 1/28 scale. The tires are so tiny! Actually, considering the hard body and the size, it does pretty well and makes a really fun indoor driver.

    • @Bash_TheStampede
      @Bash_TheStampede หลายเดือนก่อน

      They really are a lot of fun when you get them in the right environment. I could see a Mini-Z specific course being a ton of fun and easy to stash when you’re done! Thanks for watching and thank you for your comment! I must have missed that 99 dollar HH special. What a deal!

      @@Bash_TheStampede You’re right, and I technically bought it through Tower Hobbies. Tower and Amain are where I typically purchase HH products from, and both advertised the Kyosho (& Redcat) sale. You could’ve bought them through Horizon for the sale price, but they didn’t advertise the sale and you had to do a direct search to even find them.

    • @Bash_TheStampede

      You could look at a Mini-Z. That’s the best hobby grade car of this size by far. ARRMA has the Grom and Grom Typhon which look pretty cool. They’re smaller and RTR. If you’re open to crawlers the Redcat Ascent is literally one of my favorite little rigs right now and it’s under 150 bucks. It depends on your budget but there are a lot of options. If you go for a mini z don’t do the “first” series. Those are basically toys.

      @@Bash_TheStampede i looked it up and im definitely very interested in the mini-z. The price is high though and imo too high for me to comfortably buy a mini-z as first rc car. I've found a comparable rc car to mini-z online that is 1/4th the price and from reviews it looks really good as a starter kit. The car in question is from WLtoys. Everything is also upgradable to aluminium and carbon. Decided to sell my nitro truck and get the wltoys k969 or 989. Ill put the rest aside for either upgrades or if its not good enough but i do like it then i will go for mini-z. Thanks again for the advice! My defender is too top heavy. So I’ve installed the Traxxas lift kit and 62mm diameter tyres on 1.3 inch brass meus wheels. Also new shocks with 2 springs each and preloaded the right rear to address the torque twist. Now it’s a great rock crawler with the low range gears. Like you though, if I had my time over I’d get the bronco and 1 inch brass wheels. My steering servo failed after a few weeks of very light use

    • @Bash_TheStampede
      @Bash_TheStampede หลายเดือนก่อน

      There you go! Yeah the bronco would be a better starting point for performance for sure, but now that my Defender is all modded up I’m happy as can be. I’m glad you wound up making a great rock crawler out of it!

    As from a builders stand point, my 1/24 & 1/18 builds only have one goal in mind & that is to stay as under 500 grams so I can compete in Comps locally. The maximum allowed weight is 500 grams in both the 1/24 & 1/18 classes, so brass upgrades have to be wisely choosen to get the best performance out of your rig.
