For me, understanding how and why the ending of a narrative turned out to be how it did is more important, than rant about the things you didn't fully comprehend about the story and the ending that the author intended to convey... In reading and watching a story, you have to consider why the author chose to go in that direction instead of complaining that the story didn't go according to your expectations and what you concluded to be narratively correct... JMHO.

King Fritz warning was just a deterent for him to have a brief span of peace. He was never going to initiate the rumbling himself because of the vow renouncing war. He had no choice but alter his people's memories because if he ddnt do that, his own people would try to take the founders power from him so they would defend themselves or to attack other people outside. Really King Fritz does have a point by renouncing war because if the founder fell into another Eldians hands, they would misuse that power because that power is too much to handle. We can say Marley drowned in its quest for more power by trying to take the Founder, they themselves became what King Fritz feared. Someone trying to use the power of the Founder for their selfish purposes. King Fritz was 'Self Righteous' by renouncing war and expect himself and his people to be defeated by lying down and doing nothing. In the short term that plan was good for Paridis to be defeated but now his plan was foiled by what? The Attack Titan, the Attack Titan's M.O. is to forever fight whether he wins or loses. You can say the Attack Titan is an emotional manifestation of Ymir to never give up, to die fighting. An emotion Ymir kept suppressed but desired all her years as a God. She just wanted freedom as a slave and wanted people to come together. King Fritz's Vow was never going to stand the test of time while the Attack Titan was still around. Nobody ever knew the true powers of the Attack Titan except for the Attack Titan itself. You can say that the end game was written long ago with the Attack Titan. No one was ever going to stop the attack titans plan.

Eren justified genocide for himself personally, and in the eyes of his people he was right indeed. But in the eyes of the rest of the world, and even many of his friends and other people within his own race, he was evil and objectively he is at best worse than Hitler and Stalin combined. I know that is a controversial statement, but when you put up the two, both had their reasons that resonated with their own people, their reasons were not just but to them and their loyalists they were right. That is something I believe that AOT did a good job at portraying, was how a lot of things are based on perspective no matter how evil the act is. Goes back to the statement of: Every man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

Whether you think it's Marley's fault or Paradis's fault, or [insert any group, country, alliance or government]'s fault that Eren attempted to genocide the entire world, it doesn't matter. Eren is evil, period. He may or may not be a tool, or weapon, in the grand scheme of things, won't change the fact that he's absolutely, irredeamably evil. Whether his hatred is justified or not, whether his anger and grief stems from valid reasons, his acts define him for who he is: the greatest murderer in history. And this is the point that so many people are so unwilling to recognize. So many of us are quick to excuse Eren's actions because we want to believe that an eye for an eye is a fair trade, yet we also want to blame the rest of the world for their generational hatred as the sole source of evil. To me, Attack on Titan's main lesson is that it doesn't ultimately matter how people at one certain point decide to govern their lives within their borders, be it physical or conceptual, the strongest idea that binds them together will always be something stemming from past trauma. And at the end of the day, no one should hold all the power alone, because no one alone should decide between life and death for others. It's okay to sympathise with Eren and recognize that his actions were done out of necessity, but at the same time, anyone with conscience must recognize that Eren chose to kill billions, where he had the choice to let go of the power and not become the murderer of humanity.

Eren does not actually know what fate may have awaited for Paradis if he doesn't start the rumbling. He only sees a future in which he does and takes it to be the only solution. Eren had no actual idea if a smaller rumbling followed by a global truce could lead to peace. And seeing as something like that would require actions long after his remaining 4 years, he chose the Rumbling, a plan entirely within his control using his own powers.

It's a terrible ending and ruined a great show. Rest in piece AOT.

Yea literally every point you made to Mappas credit was stupid, like really... the hair? the character designs? Levi looks like he just found out what fast food is, mikasa half the time looks like a dude, Annie doesn't even look badass or threatening at all anymore, doesn't even look like Annie, and I could go on and on but I don't think any of this will change your mind, second half of s4 was fine but nothing compared to wit, however s4 pt 1 was an abomination and should be shamed

The idea that Mappas artstyle better fits season 4 is massive cope, the story of attack on titan was always dark and gruesome, it was wits style that shined beauty into this story, it was an amazing contrast that the story and art had going. Mappa came and ruined it with scenes you can barely see because its so blurry for literally NO REASON, as well as CGI titans, ITS A SHAME WHAT THEY DID TO S4 PT1.

This isn't even a debate, WIT had mountains of more detail in not only their animations, but as well as their art style, character designs, they had so much more creativity in the most important scenes, and as well as hardly any titan cgi. Titan cgi sucks, it is not better than hand drawn and I understand mappa had a short time to do this shit but it doesnt excuse the end product. WIT was the better studio no question.

I personally think that wits titans are better drawn Bcs Mappa makes them look more 3D which gave them more freedom and ability to do better fights with the titans. But I still feel like it was good that the studio change was in season 4 and not before because it helps distinguish between the two and the vibe of season 4 fits mappas style. And also in one of the scene 3:26 , Erens eyes were drawn a s blue because Armin was the narrator of the show and he was forgetting some features of Eren after not seeing him for so long. Great video tho.

Everyone understands that the Eldians are an allegory for Europeans, especially Germans. The Titans are the 1930s German war machine. They even have Japanese allies. The Germans have to be shamed into submission because they are so powerful.

Eren was very wrong for this. He could have started by releasing only a few hundred titans to destroy all the military bases as well as political buildings around the world, to neutralize their ability to continue striking ParadisIsland and limit their ability to continue brainwashing the public. He could have convinced Yumir to remove the titan powers from all the Eldians and communicated this to the outside world through negotiations. With the old regimes around the world all gone along with their ideological influence and their ability to act on them, there would be a far better chance for the world to live in harmony with Paradis Island.

i really enjoyed both wit and mappa but I do think mappa’s style made much more sense for season 4 specifically since it’s so war heavy.

I am so glad I came across this explanation. I hate when the good guy turns bad and anime rarely gives an American standard happy ending. So halfway through season 1 I stopped watching it. But now I see he is a giant reset button or equalizer. It's a tragedy because he can only find peace in death. I will have to watch this with a tooth rotting sweet happy anime to balance my emotions. 😂

i will agree that mappa might have better “animation” but i loved the way wit animated 1-3 . it was more simple but its looked way more eye catching and unique, which made it stand out as attack on titan. the old characters in s4 didnt really feel like the same characters from s3. Wits animation was very saturated and colorful, with bright highlights in their eyes and bolder uneven size lines. s4 looked more bland and like a typical modern anime, it didnt feel like attack on titan. imo its like how new movies are more focused on realism instead of making them “unnatural” in a good way were its really unique, bright, and eye catching.

Yes he is justified! That’s why I laugh at people get angry at characters like Eren, The Yeagerists, Reiner and the Marleyean Warriors for killing innocent people even though we were shown that those characters literally had NO CHOICE!!! It’s like they ignore scenes of them being forced in a situation where they have to kill somebody or be killed themselves. Those people who preach about “morality” of all things and that “there always a choice” would’ve done the same exact things Eren and Reiner would’ve done. Guaranteed that those same people who are mad at Eren and Reiner would’ve done the same things that Eren and Reiner did if they was in the world of Attack On Titan.
