I am actually writing a story where the villain was killing some criminals in hopes of doing something(Selfish tho but I can't spoil it) however they actually lose because in the end they actually refused to cross the line and kill an innocent woman. The moral dilemma in the story is about if criminal lives are as sacred as of innocent or not. hope one day i can finish it and share it with you. Death note inspired it
This video still today is life changing, I come back here now and then to remind me about this world. About what horror people can do to others, and why we need to change it. I get what light ment that the world was rotting, but light did ot for selfish reasons. We need some real change in the world, not for selfish reasons, but just to save us all.
i am writing a story (without spoiling) where a character has his people wiped out. It was voted on by the public, it gives a more interesting outlook as oppose to the evil king or dictator
It's important to note that Kira did make this distinction when killing criminals. In the 2/3rd of the story, after losing his memories, Light notes that Kira made it a point to not kill anyone who themselves did not have the intention to kill, nor anyone with extenuating circumstances. He was simply a mass murderer, as Near puts it, but he was the most specific and meticulous mass murderer we see in the series. If there was a moral question to be brought about Light specifically, I figured it was probably: where does it end? Because Light hinted that once crime essentially ceased, he was going to go after lazy people next. Then what? The depressed? Anyone too stupid to keep up with most of society? I think Death Note does a good job of not saying whether killing itself is right or wrong, but personally I do believe killing is inherently evil because of how valuable life is. And I don't believe that killing is the proper solution to cases like your example -- to me, it is solving one crime with another. Just like Light's world after the time skip, crimes would only stop because of the fear of being killed for doing something bad; the core issue of people being willing to do such horrible things would remain, not to mention that such a world would eventually end up a dystopian society akin to Orwell's 1984. Thanks for the video! It's always interesting to think about the concepts that good media shows us.
Thanks a lot for youre interesting comment. I understand what you mean by saying this would only stop the crimes itself and not a lot of the core reasons the crimes are happening. Whether you can really try fixing most of those reasons is debatable, but worth considering. And yeah its true that the world would become a dystopian society. But at the end of the day it would only really put fear and anger into those that already needed mental help. Normal people would have nothing to fear. Then again the thing you said about fixing a crime with another crime could definetily be considered wrong and hypocritical. But is there really another way? Thats definetliy something worth thinking of after reading youre comment! (:
@@videodimension69 Whether or not there's another way is a good question -- we wouldn't be here if our current system was at least "good enough" in our collective eyes. If we're to go down this road: Kira doesn't help anyone, he only judges us. If a perpetrator traumatized a family by holding them hostage, then left with that family's possessions after burning down the home, that family would still be at a great loss once the suspect was reported and finally killed by Kira. To these people, the murder would probably be a kind of justice.., but only slightly; they are still without a home, perhaps those possessions were priceless, maybe even a family member was killed during this and even Kira can't undo that. Broken people at the end of their rope like this are the type to go on committing crimes themselves for their own safety, even if before the scenario they were perfectly happy and law-abiding. What I mean to say, is that I do appreciate Light is willing to differentiate the good-willed from complete evil-doers, but we would all have something to fear from Kira eventually. If someone needs mental help, I'd rather we try to kindly help them than to cast them aside for going down that dark path. But if we can assign someone in our world to play the part of judge for such criminals, I would still vote for time isolated from society like in solitary confinement or prison. Partly because I'm still just against the killing, but also because time can erode and punish a person way more than a swift death would. Death as a punishment, to me, feels like revenge, and no one wins at that game. Of course, this could all be because I'm too much of a softie lul. I really am glad of you to share your thoughts on this. I watched Death Note a few weeks ago for only the second time and it's stuck with me since. I'm not used to thinking so much, but it feels better that I do. If you make more videos like this, I'd be glad to check them out! Even if they aren't DN specific~
@@Lightdasher360 I wouldnt say you're a softie at all this was genuinely a very interesting pov. Would have to think more about it to say i agree or disagree but you definetily make some good points. And Well im making a New Video at thé moment. Not rlly that much of a phylosophical video but still thé same editing style. So hopefully you will like that one too (:
I was very young when I first watched it. It was an experience, especially philosophically. Growing up with "the right way" parents who did everything by the rules, I obviously got the same morality as them, but after watching Death Note, I started questioning that belief. For over 3 years I still believed my parents were right and that ends do not justify the means, but I still doubted that conclusion. For over 3 years, I'd just lay down in my bed every so often and just debate with myself about the morality of Death Note. Around this time, Film Theory then released a detailed calculation of how many lives Light killed and how many he saved. In the end, he did come to the conclusion that more innocent lives were saved than killed, but he left with the message of "Of course, killing people cannot be the solution." Which I agreed, simply emotionally, just wanted to be the one to believe that bad people could change and get better, and killing them doesn't solve the problem. But over time, I realized that thinking was stupid. If I were Light, and I did not kill those criminals, a higher number of people would be dying than if I did become Kira. That's an objective fact. Innocents die because of me, but innocents die all the time, it's just now it's KIRA who does it, not just some random guy on the street who kills. Essentially, Kira takes on the role of the person who is the only bad person in the world. Without Kira, there's still no guarantee that those criminals he didn't kill would become good people, and statistically, more people die that way. I think people who say Light did the wrong thing are people who have egos of being the "good guy", and don't want to see themselves as people who killed others, don't want to see themselves as the "bad guy". Light might not have been a good person, but he was definitely not morally wrong, his actions and the results from his actions were never wrong and the bad that happened because of it never outweighed the good. Death Note is a much more morally complex show than people give it credit for, and I think it did it very much unintentionally. Not saying I'd become Kira in the real world, but only because I don't know how many lives I'd save by becoming Kira since the real world does not function like the Death Note verse.
@@videodimension69 np bro. I watched your video and I like that there are others who think like me, altho it seems our reasons for supporting Light are somewhat different.
@@Zero-ef4sc I think I can get you to think differently about this, first i like light due to many reasons i like him over l to be clearer , I think if I have a son he would think like him since I lean more towards realistic approaches,I don't think that killing or wars are especially bad just mostly bad, but I know that his approach was naive ,it wasn't about saving people,it was about fixing the world, and you can't do that by killing a bunch of criminals it's about fixing humans to act in some unknown ways yet, because light would die someday and humans will return to act as if he never existed, even when I was in the same age as him in the anime I understood that,l said something similar about kira being a high schooler but l also was naive just chasing kira for the sake of proving his skills and really risking his life for that ,it seems like l dies of following his emotions and light also since he could have easily played safe without attracting l In the first place I think for light it was more about if l is smarter than me then why I'm the one to judge people, but in all cases you can see that even with all the logic being a human being involved some emotions you can't totally control
@@aymanayman9000 so, if I understand this correctly, you're saying that I shouldn't root for Light cuz he himself is bad and does stupid things, as he could've just stayed in his bedroom without getting caught of doing risky things and no one would've found him, and even if he does good, it won't last after he's dead. That's true, but it's irrelevant to the point that more people are saved due to Light's actions than killed. A net win of over 2 million lives saved over the course of 4-6 years is still 2 million lives saved. For example, if Light didn't exist for the next 20 years, you'd have around 12.25 million people die. If Light lived for 20 years, assuming the number of people he saves per year remains the same, around 2.25 million people die. That is 10 million people saved which cannot be argued to be bad by any argument. Even if after Light dies, it goes back to the original amount of deaths, the 10 million in 20 years is still a lot to consider.
I badly wanted another anime with this vibe and mental battle and dark feel. I feel like its never going to happen lol i watched this entire show like 10 times
Watch "Monster", you won't regret it. It's very well written and really makes you think. It's the only thing until now that compares. It might be a bit slow paced at some points for some people. I liked that too tho because it really built the characters and makes you feel with them. I really recommend trying it out.
Great points here. I think this is where the discussion of death note is headed these days. Light being the hero the whole time, and the ultimate martyr. Which is funny, because I feel like at the same time it's most face value take of the series as a whole. I think that is why the art direction in the anime paints light as more of a hero. His succumbing to madness is also part of the picture. I think a discussion could go even deeper on that.
Thank you for commenting (: Light is definetily not a hero. Hence i only agree with a part of his plan. Al though even on that my mind could be changed with solid arguments. And it's true that light is kinda respresented as a hero but also as a villain. It's kindoff a 50/50 i d say. And yes the yourney into madness of light is definetely something worth discussing further.
By the question on the subject “is murder ‘always’ evil” I will have to say no. It usually comes down to: “intent, mindset, goal.” There is murder to protect yourself and loved ones, protect the public peace, or stopping someone else to be potentially murdered aswell; even if it doesn’t involve you.” Murder is wrong if there where other options, if you didn’t need to, “and if you had to murder, do it quick and to the point so the victim or criminal does not need to suffer.” That’s my opinion, but I know a lot of people don’t have the mindset or opinion on the idea of murder. We should work on not needed to hurt one another or taking lives unnecessary, (not including psychopaths or people who falsely accuse people, fuck those guys. Deserves to be in the darkest side of the corner of hell)
Respectfully, killing people isn't always wrong. There are three types of killing that are morally okay in my opinion: 1) killing to defend yourself and/or other people, 2) killing someone for the sake of justice due to them killing a lot of other people (so killing mass murderers is okay), and/or 3) killing someone because they are a legit, direct threat to yourself and/or others. I think point 1 is self-explanatory, if someone is directly to kill you and/or others around you, killing is probably your best opinion. Disarming someone can be harder than it looks and killing them makes it so they will never be able to harm and/or anyone else again. This is literally why for active shooter training at Walmart, we're told if we have to defend ourselves - don't play fair, use whatever you can, and aim for painful and/or very likely lethal areas such as the throat. For point two, this is why killing Osama Bin Laden could be considered required for the United States of America after 9/11 happened. It took a while but he masterminded a national tragedy that ended up not only killing the World Trade Centers but also led to many suicides of some victims' family members of their family members and an entire war that killed at least thousands. It's a logical form of justice when it comes down to letting America move forward. As for point 3, I'm just going to point out that Neo-nazis are a legit threat to many people, due to their viewpoint on the world. I'm not saying we should all Neo-nazis but if some attack a Temple, they should get the death penalty if they harm one inside. No, I don't 100% agree with Misa or Light, but I do feel Misa's reason for supporting Light as Kira is justifiable considering my second point. Since Light as Kira literally killed the man who killed her parents in front of her, that's justice for Misa because even if he did get a death sentence, Misa could literally die before it was carried out depending on her own lifespan. Again, I'm not saying Light's right (since I think he should have killed convicted criminals that committed voilent crimes only), but I'm certain a decent amount of Light's followers were in a similar enough situation to Misa with no way to get true justice in their opinion because the criminal raped, stalked, killed a family member of theirs, etc., would likely eventually be released from prison. That Kira follower would suffer any consequences of that occurring whether it was being raped again, having their children abused, constant PTSD, whatever.
Since I study ethics/philosophy at uni I found this video very interesting, easily a couple hour long discussion could be raised by this topic lol In my personal view since I am pro rehabilitative justice and anti punishment-based justice it may be ironic that I agree with you here, but well the problem of crimes occurring and then helping criminals to become good people would be unnecessary if nobody would be motivated to do crime due to the knowledge that they'd certainly get "divine punishment" from it And the term "divine" is extremely important. If people knew that what was murdering criminals was another human, they'd view that person as insane and deranged and an extremist and because they are human they are killing humans on a subjective basis and thus should not be trusted and should be overthrown. However, if we assume a God is carrying out the murders, then really we have no choice in the matter as we can't kill or remove God, therefore eventually making crime be a thing of the past eventually. But this belief in this diety and seeing "evidence" of its existence (supernatural killings of all criminals) has its own problems - cults, absolute morality, societal and individual justification of horrible things for the sake of this God even if not necessarily immoral. A worldwide belief in God would be very problematic. However, like you said, is there really any other way? This would be a sure fire way to destroy evil, using evil to destroy itself. Its an interesting proposition.
Well there is one huge problem though. by the end of the series light's actions caused the crime rates to drop 60% thorughout the world but light didn't solve the reasons why people commit crimes. So eventually when light dies and people realize that there isn't any metaphysical force that punishes criminals instantly anymore, crime rates will go high up again. So in the end nothing will be changed.
Also you can make people do things then kill them years later and everytime you want them to do something you shorten that death date slightly. Just a thought of what you can do with the death note
I'm from the U.S., we have a mass shooting/school shooting problem and all those cases are pretty high profile. Those guys end up dead (usually self-inflicted, but still) and yet we still have more school/mass shootings. I generally don't think death as a deterrent works for "S class criminals" as the death penalty generally exists in my country and has not stopped them. I also don't think of the Good & Evil of humanity as an equation. Like removing "evil" from the world doesn't mean that there's only more "good", humans and morality are more complicated than that.
I would argue that the crimes that are committed once everyone is afraid to die from the I believe every single crime after this point would be so much more evil and depraved
but then again people who kills and torture lost their humanity (because i believe that someone who does that cant keep their humanity) can you still call them humans? because being human is more than just born being it, is all that it envolves, so if you kill someone like that you just killed a monster with a human costume. I don't know if that could still be called a murder.
i dont a human with emotions could do that only something like a god...Light still had emotions like anger and his own view and feelings about others when he murdered...In the the end he became someone that was no better than the criminals... especially how he treated certain people like Misa who he used and manipulated...Ray Pember and hiw wife..who obviously were not bad people and Light enjoyed killing them it was not just a way to not be caught...Light's idea may sound like a good one in theory but in the end it was something he was not able to fullfil and developed a god complex...enjoyed murdering...etc...
I think my issue with the death note is that it's one human judging all these other people without being sure of their crime. Yes the horrible crimes with clear evidence yes but not unsure ones. But a supernatural force that knows all or God doing it yes. With the human factor it's hard to say and why not do it before the crime even happens with a person with that power it's impossible. The idea of a death note is a cool concept though like philosophical
What Light should have done is do what all the people who figured out that all this mass shooting stuff is just a big show they have no control over did - they stopped reading all these horror stories and had their lives back. Some recovered, others went beyond insane. As a result, crime was reduced in their cities. Light became his own worst enemy and Ryukh tried to warn him. By studying the character of Light, I indeed learned to understand humankind, and furthermore why so many mass shooting stories are more than meets the eye. What those guys did to her was real. And reality scares us so bad, the mainstream media refuses to cover it in horror. Once Light realizes that he cannot stop all crime in the world no matter how many criminals he kills, he starts realizing he has become one of the worst villains in human history. If I had Light´s power, you would not hear about it. You would not know about it. Fewer criminals would die, but they would still be the most vile among their kind. Thanks for your video. Kind regards from Ásgeir in Iceland.
I think senseless murder is evil and they should get the right punishment they deserve (be that straight death or prison) However that being said thinking about a life or death situation I would be much more likely to kill then be killed Additionally I think its really short sighted to say that killing is wrong. In general it shouldn't be so black and white as life is almost never so cut and dry Personally I've always decided what's right and wrong based on intentions and not outcome An example would be if someone attacked my friend I would have no moral or ethical or other issues stepping in even if there was the smallest chance I'd hurt my friend in the process of saving or helping my friend
The truth is in a perfect world where you kill only bad people, eventually you’re going to make a mistake and kill someone that doesn’t deserve it, whether it was falsely accused they were framed or some other odd circumstance, and yes the chances of those things happening are low, but still possible and you’d have to live with that guilty conscience, I don’t think anyone should have the power of a god, because we are merely humans and not gods.
I basically told the same thing about how we should treat evil people to others one day & they said '' That's way too drastic & you need to chill'' & another told me ''I believe everyone have a good side & can be better so I believe in humanity'' needless to say I don't agree with them. I'm the type of guy that if you give me the button in front of me that if i press it, millions will die but they all are rapist, pedophile, criminals, terrorist etc... like evil beings that shouldn't be called human, then I would press it. The world would be a better place after & it wouldn't have to be forced by fear. Just as I think people should be forced to stop having babies & at least 5 new generations in the future should be raised hidden from our current society & raised right with better education & better boundaries so that after our generations dies, they could take over & do better than we are doing & look at us & say ''people back in the day were insane'' & they would be right for 80% of us.
About this death note thing. I think there is a limitation to the amount of space for Light to write on the note book. And one other major limitation about this idea is the amount of dedication it requires to do what Light do. And one thing to note. This is not a job and that your not getting pay to do this. There is no motivation if there is no one to pay you for the work. Unlike government jobs.
@@videodimension69 unlimited pages you say. then. doesn't it mean that there was a major plot hold during the battle of pride against Near!!! Near had an idea of swopping the real with a fake??? doesn't mean that the fake copy of the book would have been a big dictionary??? there is no way that Teru Mikami didnt notice that he was carrying a big dictionary and not the real death note.

Less than 5% of people commit over half the violent crime. There are so many factors that lead up to these people committing the actions they do, but I personally think that if you take a life without proper cause, then your life should also be forfeit. However, you can rarely with 100% certainty say that someone is guilty of a crime, as with power comes corruption as well as human error (talking about judges, law makers etc.). Many life sentences and executions have been completely reversed. I think you cannot kill those who are "evil" without becoming "evil" yourself due to how complicated the world is. I think the best case scenario would be to use the death note on those who are convicted of perpetrating terrible crimes such as murder and just accept that some mistakes will be made. For the rest, we should prioritize rehabilitation.
Yeah I see your point but i would take an example here, if there is two people A and B playing chess player A s losing to player B then player A will try to defend his position as accurately as possible by improving strategy instead he won't start to violating the rules of the game, so my point is that we live in a society and there is a system of everything and sure sure system isn't perfect but we are heading towards it so we have to improve our system and eliminate the loopholes from it so it can't be manipulated anymore. We are all human beings and so are criminals, they became what they are is somewhat fault of the society and surroundings. So, we have to eliminate crimes not criminals.
@@videodimension69 It would be a longer process than you and i expected but would be an effective one in a long run, because we also know that how long one will be able to eliminate criminals manually by oneself, not very long. Sure, there are some notorious criminals out there and if they are causing trouble more than they are creating or helping they can be punished by whatever the punishment constitution has suggested ( although I believe there might still be some room for improvements and can do better good for the society of course if they aren't psychopaths or sociopaths) . But, at the end of the day we have to wield a system whatever it might be because winning a game or solving a mathematics problem we need a strategy similarly for the human society we need a methodology or a system. And sorry for if there is/are grammatical error/errors because I'm from India and my command on the English is not that great.
And the simple answer to your question is " We can eliminate crimes by making the next generation rational and by the encouraging the scientific temperament in them because studying science is one thing but having scientific temperament is very different thing, I know people in my society where I live who are literate but are not rational. Being a rational thinker develops a sense of equality and if once a person has this then he will most likely will not do any thing inhumane ( atleast conciously)
The difference between murder and killing is that one is permissible and the other isn't. Fir non religious people whi are still using these words.. it's a matter of justification. Hubris enacting you to judge the value of life, is indeed evil and very human.
yes, specially the case of light yagami, light yagami case is worst case of murder, the intention never "good",he never questioned the murder,he just simply kill ppl on the list called "criminal" even if they are not a criminal, its just so happened that his name is listed on "criminal list" then that person is dead by light yagami, let alone all the people that are not even on the list of criminal, they all dead,so about light yagami murder? near just say it perfectly "light yagami/kira is just a mass murderer using the deadliest weapon"
"Maybe we do need someone to sacrifice their humanity for us." Your solution is true, however it's a perversion of way we should do it. Light didn't only kill criminals. He saw L as a criminal when he absolutely wasn't. The issue with humans judging in situations like that is that we really aren't all knowing. Light killed thousands. He killed them based on their charges, but realistically, do you think he might've killed only criminals and not some people falsely accused? You might say, well there was a greater good brought about, but can you then just do anything evil so long as it brings about a greater good? Pairing consequentialist morality with our deficient human knowledge is going to lead to a lot of injustice. Sure, things will look clean because the dead people will no longer affect society, but that's really just a dictatorship. And don't you think people can take advantage if they know Kira will kill anyone who is declared a criminal? Falsely accused someone and you've gotten them out of your way. You see, there's a million ways this could go wrong. The real way someone sacrifices their humanity is by laying it down for others, even if it means dying on a cross. Not murdering your own conscience.
How do you know they are guilty what is stopping you from killing an innocent person. Is there a trial. What if they are not caught. What about the people who want to self delete by death note who go out commit mass murder. There is a reason murder is wrong it can’t make the world a better place.
Maybe in the beginning light had noble intentions but by the end he becomes this egomaniac sociopath for no regard for anyone who wasn’t useful for his goals or a part of his family so it’s very likely that if he did eventually become the god of the new world he created he’d see any minor inconvenience or disagreement levied against him as evil and worthy of punishment as we see him kill more and more people who oppose him for moral reasons, he’d basically become a tyrant drunk on power and superiority. Given the vast complexity of the human experience I don’t think an absolute moral view like light has would solve anything, maybe instead of absolute moral perfection in the world we should be aiming to minimize it to a realistic degree in a way that someone doesn’t just become a worldwide policing dictator this power shouldn’t be left up to just one person as well to make extra sure.
Looking at it logically, what light did was simply a huge good thing for the world in the LONG run, it literally stopped world war, he saved FAR MORE innocent lives than killed any, since majority of his kills are ppl who deserved to die anyways, I CANNOT possibly see how ppl can think this isn’t right
@@Dhips. that’s the problem with you and many others, y’all sympathize and empathize with the few thousands but not the millions upon millions that will be saved from this, look at our world today as an example, the amount of lives lost cuz of the lack of peace has caused more 1000 times or even a million times more deaths than if kira existed, if kira existed and the effects were as follows Ukraine and Russia wouldn’t have war, every Cold War in the recent 2000s would not have happened, pair that with violent crimes would not happen, and to add even further we wouldn’t just be saving lives but also we’d prevent so many traumatic experiences from ppl who got their lives ruined through rape, seeing their loved ones murdered, torture etc, you CAN NEVER EVER bring up “what about the innocent lives we’d sacrifice to achieve this” cuz the innocent lives you are talking about here are such a small minority and it’s not to say they don’t matter but rather if you are willing to put millions of lives through everything I mentioned just cuz you didn’t want to sacrifice a few thousand ppl then you are truly horrendous, you are basically indirectly saying you rather have such incredibly terrible and evil world where millions upon millions suffer fates worse or equal to death than to have a guy who kills criminals who cause these immense suffering that I mentioned and few wrongly accused lmao, think about your own words and if you still think kira isn’t right than too bad you are truly just terrible as a person
@@dekomori8127 bro thinks he's edgy 💀 it doesn't matter how much light was helping the world his end goal was ruling it and anyone who opposed him would be deemed evil. He basically wanted to make the whole world north Korea and he the leader. You seriously ok with that?
Also Light was only dealing with the symptoms insteadof the causes. Politicians and the CEOs/1% who own them are the ones causing a lot of our problems. Take them out and society will heal.
I disagree and agree with a lot of things in this video. I agree that murder isn't always evil. However, I don't think killing criminals is the way to go. Prisons shouldn't even be a place of torture. They should be a place of reform. And besides I think there are much more threatening people out there than your average killer.
What a joke. Even Aizawa from the Kira Task Force said "That's not true justice! People are just too scared to commit crimes!". Hahaha... Funny. Just look at the modern justice system. One found crime can ruin your life, even if it was once off, your life could basically be screwed. Also, if you are arrested you might get locked up with some of the worst people in the world, suffering for years in a place worse then death. Tell me, how are people not already scared before Kira came along. People like Aizawa have no idea that most possible crimes are already prevented by threats of imprisonment or ruining your life if you commit said crimes. Kira is simply pushing that same method into overdrive and trying to scare everyone out of every crime, no matter who committed it or where they're hiding. The world governments were almost hypocrites in a way when they opposed Kira, as they have done some pretty messed up stuff in the past like the criminals they lock up.
Don't worry bro im Re uploading it right now. I just felt like thé audio was kinda off in some places. Thanks for being so quick in watching it thé first time around
I used to agree with Light but not anymore. I've come to realize that "evil" is something inherent in human beings. It comes with our nature and that society has grown so much that we have to make rules to keep the order, even if it means not allowing such an inherent characteristic in living beings like being evil. It varies depending on the person. But to me criminals are people that haven't been able to resist their natural desires. Natural desires that they never asked for. I think trying to understand evil and make an attempt to make those people change and redeem first is better. Or have more balance between understanding and punishment.
This is no question at all, Murder is always Evil and that's the truth No matter how many actions you might take to justify what you did, It's Simply Evil Nothing More!

Let's take as Ted bundy as an example, He escaped prison 2 times and later caught by the Police and it proves that Murder isn't the case but in Ted's Bundy Case it was justified by the Law And Law is absolute! Once the Judge says Death Penalty that's your life that was ahead. But in talking about the child killer, It's not right to kill someone and put them first in the prison and if they do try to escape they will be given more sentence because Laws again Exists for that reason and the fear of getting arrested and excuted by the death penalty is Scary to think.
@taikye It is always nice hearing other opinions on topics like this.I do agree that the killer's family will suffer from trauma, but what about the family of the victims? I know people who would find peace like a victims family members knowing that the killer is gone?. The second thing is if someone like light did exist, that would stop people from committing crimes because they could drop dead instantly so that means less killer's and people committing things like rape. Criminals going to jail still does not stop that crime from still happening, but if they truly had something to fear, like dropping dead in an instant, that would stop the crime from happening more than jail and let's not forgot many crimes still go under the rug but if kira existed then that would stop that by a lot because people would be scared to do crime. The world would have less criminals and be a better place full of good people.I am not saying to kill every criminal just those who are the worst of the worst. I respect your opinion even if I don't fully agree with it and hope you are having a good day, but I still would love to hear your thoughts
"You're missing one thing Light, if you killed all the bad people you'd be the only bad person left." By what standard does one person have to be the Judge Dredd of humanity? The very fact that you might kill innocent people says enough that it's wrong. You said you'd use it to kill bad people who murder and rape, but forgot you already acknowledged that wrongfully accused people where killed this way by Light. Therefore it stands to reason if you did this yourself you'd also be killing those same innocent people. People have spent decades behind bars on crimes they were framed for, only to be let out when evidence pops up proving they didn't do it. Does Light read articles on everyone he kills to see what was the evidence found? Does he read court documents on the trails or does he see names in a crime data base and go to town writing the names? Where is the line drawn for who dies and lives based on what they did? Is breaking into a car met with death? Is stealing food met with death? Is being mean to someone on the internet met with death? Jaywalking? If the basis for a peaceful world is mass murder, even if a number of them are awful people, then it's not a peaceful world. In all of human history people have done the worst things to each other, but as long as there are families willing to hide Jews in their attics, as long as there are people risking their lives saving strangers in war torn counties, or giving aid to those in need, I refuse to buy into the nihilist doomer poison that everything is rotten. If everything and everyone rotten than why care who's saved? You care who's saved because you know someone is good, and you know someone is good because you care.
@@geoffwaller9058 You'd put your life or someone you love on that execution wall? Would you do it yourself? Pull the trigger on someone you love? Do you value human life that little?
Killing isn't always evil however Light is *DEFINETLY* evil In fact, Kira is worse than Johan Liebert Light is a manipulative serial killer who uses the veil of righteousness in order to become a "god" and get people to worship him. With Johan you can at least argue that he was abused and had a Freudian excuse Not Light though. He simply wanted to do it.
I do want to point out to everyone, regardless of your views or ideas, the best this could achieve irl is reducing crime but never stopping it. Regardless if you think S ranks criminal deserve death or to rot in prison or to be given a second chance, And regardless of how you decide to deal with criminal with killing all of them or killing a select few at the end of the day some people would never be caught for their crimes. For every story you hear of a horrible person committing such evil act, there is another one where you'll never find out who was the criminal. There are story where we don't even find out about until decades later!
Sadly that is true. Have been thinking about that a lot too lately. But it would definetily be reduced and that's definetely something Worth considering.
In my opinion, the killing of criminals is evil. Some criminals may deserve death, but only the worst criminals. What Light did would make things worse in a sense. People may not report minor crimes because they don't think the criminal deserves it. In this new world run by Kira, people would every day be scared to do anything wrong. If an entitled person hated someone else and accused them of a crime they didn't commit, what would Kira do if they are proven innocent? There are too many flaws with this. Light's god complex is another problem with the morality of Death Note. Even if you believe the killing of criminals is completely alright, you can't believe he was a good person. He killed many innocent people for his new world to be created. This shows that he wasn't only trying to better the world. If he was, he would've stuck to killing criminals. Overall, while the morality of the idea Light had is debatable, Light himself is objectively evil.
Well there's a counter argument in that sense. When Light was killing criminals he was only killing the ones that were accused and deemed evil by the social media and the locals. Light probably thought that they were evil and then again who can blame him ? Light only killed because crime rates in Japan were increasing and yet it pissed him off. So you have to think is Light really evil ? His ego isn't the problem, but it's only problem if he showed in public. The problem was Japan itself and not handling criminals. Basically Light did the right thing. As matter fact he pretty much was the police behind the scenes. But I wouldn't call him the good guy either. In short light when it came to him killing criminals had the right idea then again the falsely accused ones were sadly victims.
By studying the character of light you can somewhat understand humankind

I am actually writing a story where the villain was killing some criminals in hopes of doing something(Selfish tho but I can't spoil it) however they actually lose because in the end they actually refused to cross the line and kill an innocent woman. The moral dilemma in the story is about if criminal lives are as sacred as of innocent or not. hope one day i can finish it and share it with you. Death note inspired it
Wow, sounds very interesting man give me a sign when u finished it, would like to check it out!
Yee man sounds like a cool story
Sounds fantastic man, hope you convey your themes well through your character's and it all turns out great
This video still today is life changing, I come back here now and then to remind me about this world.

And Well im making a New Video at thé moment. Not rlly that much of a phylosophical video but still thé same editing style. So hopefully you will like that one too (:
i remember that was Mikami claimed to go after lazy people, Light even criticize him sometimes for doing ''too much''
I was very young when I first watched it.
Wow, thanks for making such an in depth comment man. Cool to see all these different opinions.

@@Zero-ef4sc W ah comment. W you
@@Zero-ef4sc I think I can get you to think differently about this, first i like light due to many reasons i like him over l to be clearer , I think if I have a son he would think like him since I lean more towards realistic approaches,I don't think that killing or wars are especially bad just mostly bad, but I know that his approach was naive ,it wasn't about saving people,it was about fixing the world, and you can't do that by killing a bunch of criminals it's about fixing humans to act in some unknown ways yet, because light would die someday and humans will return to act as if he never existed, even when I was in the same age as him in the anime I understood that,l said something similar about kira being a high schooler but l also was naive just chasing kira for the sake of proving his skills and really risking his life for that ,it seems like l dies of following his emotions and light also since he could have easily played safe without attracting l In the first place I think for light it was more about if l is smarter than me then why I'm the one to judge people, but in all cases you can see that even with all the logic being a human being involved some emotions you can't totally control

@Video dimension I frankly can't understand nor agree with even part of Light's plan. But thats just my two cents on it

By the question on the subject “is murder ‘always’ evil” I will have to say no.
It usually comes down to: “intent, mindset, goal.”
There is murder to protect yourself and loved ones, protect the public peace, or stopping someone else to be potentially murdered aswell; even if it doesn’t involve you.”
Murder is wrong if there where other options, if you didn’t need to, “and if you had to murder, do it quick and to the point so the victim or criminal does not need to suffer.”
That’s my opinion, but I know a lot of people don’t have the mindset or opinion on the idea of murder.
We should work on not needed to hurt one another or taking lives unnecessary, (not including psychopaths or people who falsely accuse people, fuck those guys. Deserves to be in the darkest side of the corner of hell)
I am not one to dish out Death. However there are some that wouldn’t be missed
This was honestly a really interesting video. Keep going!
Thank you :D did u somewhat agree with it?
Since I study ethics/philosophy at uni I found this video very interesting, easily a couple hour long discussion could be raised by this topic lol
In my personal view since I am pro rehabilitative justice and anti punishment-based justice it may be ironic that I agree with you here, but well the problem of crimes occurring and then helping criminals to become good people would be unnecessary if nobody would be motivated to do crime due to the knowledge that they'd certainly get "divine punishment" from it
And the term "divine" is extremely important.
Wow really cool to see someone like you agree with me. Means a lot Man thank you :D
What I think, there are some people who can use the death note and still keep their humanity
For 1 they would need to be able to stay humble!
Definetely a debatable topic but personally i dont think it's a 100% guarantee u will become a pshycopath by using it either.
Like removing "evil" from the world doesn't mean that there's only more "good", humans and morality are more complicated than that.

but then again people who kills and torture lost their humanity (because i believe that someone who does that cant keep their humanity) can you still call them humans? because being human is more than just born being it, is all that it envolves, so if you kill someone like that you just killed a monster with a human costume.
Well for me Light was protagonist, but I could say he could be more precise about what sort of people he was killing.
Protagonist doesn’t equal hero he’s the protagonist regardless of what you feel
i couldn’t disagree more. It’s just too powerful and the possibilities are endless.

@@videodimension69 i think murder is wrong. even to punish.
@@joshde_ it's not murder if it protects the innocent.
I think senseless murder is evil and they should get the right punishment they deserve (be that straight death or prison)
However that being said thinking about a life or death situation I would be much more likely to kill then be killed
Additionally I think its really short sighted to say that killing is wrong. In general it shouldn't be so black and white as life is almost never so cut and dry
Personally I've always decided what's right and wrong based on intentions and not outcome
An example would be if someone attacked my friend I would have no moral or ethical or other issues stepping in even if there was the smallest chance I'd hurt my friend in the process of saving or helping my friend
That in itself is worth a discussion. Very interesting points man
Not at all. Sometimes murder is justified & deserved

Great pov u got here. If i Know how to elimate crimes instead of criminal i would most certainly consider that as an option too.

Only the devil can save the humanity.
yes, specially the case of light yagami, light yagami case is worst case of murder, the intention never "good",he never questioned the murder,he just simply kill ppl on the list called "criminal" even if they are not a criminal, its just so happened that his name is listed on "criminal list" then that person is dead by light yagami, let alone all the people that are not even on the list of criminal, they all dead,so about light yagami murder? near just say it perfectly "light yagami/kira is just a mass murderer using the deadliest weapon"
"Maybe we do need someone to sacrifice their humanity for us."
Your solution is true, however it's a perversion of way we should do it.
I love the video
Thanks a lot man, really appreciate that (:
How do you know they are guilty what is stopping you from killing an innocent person. Is there a trial. What if they are not caught. What about the people who want to self delete by death note who go out commit mass murder. There is a reason murder is wrong it can’t make the world a better place.
Make the mass murderer's death note deletion beyond agonizing to deter future deleters.
Yes
My definition of murder is killing someone without cause, so by definition, yes, all murder is wrong. The question is what is murder, what is cause?
In theory the word murder means killing even in self defense. But i get we're u are coming from and agree with part of it.
Looking at it logically, what light did was simply a huge good thing for the world in the LONG run, it literally stopped world war, he saved FAR MORE innocent lives than killed any, since majority of his kills are ppl who deserved to die anyways, I CANNOT possibly see how ppl can think this isn’t right
Definetely spitting some Fax here
How many innocent lives would you be willing to sacrifice for this goal?
@@Dhips. that’s the problem with you and many others, y’all sympathize and empathize with the few thousands but not the millions upon millions that will be saved from this, look at our world today as an example, the amount of lives lost cuz of the lack of peace has caused more 1000 times or even a million times more deaths than if kira existed, if kira existed and the effects were as follows Ukraine and Russia wouldn’t have war, every Cold War in the recent 2000s would not have happened, pair that with violent crimes would not happen, and to add even further we wouldn’t just be saving lives but also we’d prevent so many traumatic experiences from ppl who got their lives ruined through rape, seeing their loved ones murdered, torture etc, you CAN NEVER EVER bring up “what about the innocent lives we’d sacrifice to achieve this” cuz the innocent lives you are talking about here are such a small minority and it’s not to say they don’t matter but rather if you are willing to put millions of lives through everything I mentioned just cuz you didn’t want to sacrifice a few thousand ppl then you are truly horrendous, you are basically indirectly saying you rather have such incredibly terrible and evil world where millions upon millions suffer fates worse or equal to death than to have a guy who kills criminals who cause these immense suffering that I mentioned and few wrongly accused lmao, think about your own words and if you still think kira isn’t right than too bad you are truly just terrible as a person
@@dekomori8127 Don't cut yourself with all that edge buddy.
@@dekomori8127 bro thinks he's edgy 💀 it doesn't matter how much light was helping the world his end goal was ruling it and anyone who opposed him would be deemed evil. He basically wanted to make the whole world north Korea and he the leader. You seriously ok with that?
"He only killed criminals"
And the FBI, L, and Watari.
Also Light was only dealing with the symptoms insteadof the causes. Politicians and the CEOs/1% who own them are the ones causing a lot of our problems. Take them out and society will heal.
I Meant his main plan, could have made that clearer tho
Self defence
Bro why did you delete the video
Don't worry bro im Re uploading it right now. I just felt like thé audio was kinda off in some places. Thanks for being so quick in watching it thé first time around
Light did nothing wrong.
You have to act like someone is always watching you, even if you're alone. you have to pretend that God exists. even if you don't believe.
Very interesting way of thinking. But wouldnt that have downsides too? Like never feeling like u have time alone?
This is no question at all, Murder is always Evil and that's the truth No matter how many actions you might take to justify what you did, It's Simply Evil Nothing More!
Thats youre opinion man, im always open to talk mine through (:
@@videodimension69 Welp thats my point of view and words But i'd like to hear your opinion. because for me no matter you do murder is always wrong, it doesn't solve anything but to cause harm and fear to people.
I also study Law and some horrible disgusting cases. So I know it's very horrible to begin with!
P.S If we are talking about fiction. then Opinions exist Because if it isn't then Murder Is always Wrong to the People that doesn't watch fiction.
However if we are talking about the real Life.
No matter what you say It's wrong if you tried to justify what the murderer did.
You will be seen as a Disgusting being and No empathy for the family.
So which is it?
@taikye I am interested in your opinion, and I want to ask you a question based on what I believe so you can judge it and give your opinion. so my question is if you had a choice of killing a child rapist or putting him in prison what would you chose?.People say murder is always evil but is that the case if you kill someone who has ruined a child's life and giving them truma they can't recover from without serious help?. In my opinion it is not evil to kill that person because even if you put then behind bars, what if they escape and do it again.Lets say they stay behind bars its not gonna make a big difference because someone worse will take there place then the cycle will continue from that point on.This is just my belief but in always interested to hear about someone else opinion on this topic. Sorry if I made any spelling mistakes, this is my first youtube comment
@@Dave-ty4td That's an interesting topic, To kill someone for someone's life is something that humans might intend to do things and try to justify what they did is Justice but it's again simply Blatant Cold Murder and causing More trauma and out cry for the killer's family. Think about it, There's a prison for many reason and Killers do not try to escape and if they did that's something that the police will never stop at finding the culprit.
"You're missing one thing Light, if you killed all the bad people you'd be the only bad person left."
By what standard does one person have to be the Judge Dredd of humanity?
When curing cancer you're going to kill a few good cells along with the bad, the end justifies the means.
@@geoffwaller9058 You'd put your life or someone you love on that execution wall? Would you do it yourself? Pull the trigger on someone you love? Do you value human life that little?
Killing isn't always evil however
Light is *DEFINETLY* evil
In fact, Kira is worse than Johan Liebert
Light is a manipulative serial killer who uses the veil of righteousness in order to become a "god" and get people to worship him.
With Johan you can at least argue that he was abused and had a Freudian excuse
Not Light though. He simply wanted to do it.
I do want to point out to everyone, regardless of your views or ideas, the best this could achieve irl is reducing crime but never stopping it.
Regardless if you think S ranks criminal deserve death or to rot in prison or to be given a second chance,
And regardless of how you decide to deal with criminal with killing all of them or killing a select few
at the end of the day some people would never be caught for their crimes. For every story you hear of a horrible person committing such evil act, there is another one where you'll never find out who was the criminal.
There are story where we don't even find out about until decades later!
Sadly that is true. Have been thinking about that a lot too lately. But it would definetily be reduced and that's definetely something Worth considering.
no
yes
Yes - literally. Evil is live reversed. You're welcome.
don't call death note simple you're the one who's simple
