The Dragon Choke (Tatsumaki Shime) from Mount - Small Circle Jujitsu
The Dragon Choke (Tatsumaki Shime) is a choke taught in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu. It is a choke in Wally Jay's first book Dynamic Ju Jitsu. It is not normally taught in modern Small Circle Jujitsu. In this video I wanted to show a modern way it could possibly be used from Mount.

How to Scissor Sweep Bigger Stronger Opponents in BJJ
มุมมอง 1K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Power or Two-on-One scissors sweep is something I have been using for two decades against bigger stronger opponents. I got the idea from a De La Riva sweep on a standing opponent. You get a two on one grip on the sleeve and kick out the leg on the same side. I decided to try it with the scissors sweep and it instantly worked very well. Sometimes I call this the blast scissors sweep. music: ...

    I nearly tapped to this against a guy who has almost 100 lbs on me smothered me a similar way (he tripod but instead intentionally kept his double underhooks on my head and smothered my face with his chest plus the gi trapped all the hot air in lol). Adding this wonderful technique to my toolkit, oss!

    Nice video. I have been working on this with my coach and have developed a quick attack from this spot. Instead of doing the elevator sweep, as soon as I get my hooks in, I push them back and shrimp out and get to clamp guard while the top person is coming down. You can work an arm bar, kimura, and some other attacks from there.

    There was a time as a white belt when scissor sweeps felt almost impossible for me. (I'm a lil old man, 63 130lbs). I eventually could do them consistently enough to be promoted to blue belt, but it still felt difficult. At some point after that I began to more easily do them. It often felt like as soon as I started my set up, my partner just went over, almost like they helped me. I'm convinced the key is the setup and timing, when it's right, the sweep is inevitable. Focus on the setup and "feel" for the timing, when they move or shift their weight reacting to me. I'm starting to notice this more with other techniques also.

    • @waynesniffen9427
      @waynesniffen9427 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct. Timing is the key, which is how I sweep black and brown belts. The first time I saw the scissors sweep was in the 90's and I thought it was the coolest thing. Because you start from the bottom and end up on top. There was no name for the technique back then. The instructor just showed it and we did it. Such a simple technique but very powerful when done at the right time. Thank you for your comment.

      Yep, to help prevent your knee shield from getting smashed keep your knee up until you are ready to sweep. And if he does smash your knee down flex the foot of your knee shield leg to slow down his pass and give yourself time to recover.

      Lots of things. Depends on what kind of response you want to have. In the video I am trying to end things before a full on fight using only Judo. You can do the same technique in this video if you remove one hand first by doing a palm press thumb lock. I can also throw my opponent with sumi gaeshi or possibly tomoe nage. Tomoe nage might be hard if they are close. Sode tsurikomi goshi is another option by lifting one elbow up. Just grab one sleeve then palm press the other elbow up, grab and throw by turning your body. And of course if you want you can also punch, knee, and maybe kick. If you are a Judoka you can test these things out yourself on the mat.

    This is bad. He's doing it wrong. He doesn't know how to engage around the neck and to look for the carotid artery on either side of the neck. He's also engaging from behind and doesn't demonstrate engagement from the front. As a matter of fact, he's got the forearm on the guy's neck which is a windpipe choke and could kill the guy. If he knew what he was doing, he could do it one handed and take the guy down just from the neck pressure. He doesn't know enough to be teaching this.

When I was younger my main focus was on striking (full contact karate, kickboxing, etc...) These days I mostly teach BJJ, Judo, and some Small Circle. If you join the Small Circle Jujtisu web site as a member, which is pretty cheap you will have access to the curriculum with videos on all the striking, blocks, etc. But, you got me thinking. How do you apply wrist locks if the opponent has a closed fist? Good video BTW!

    • @waynesniffen9427
      @waynesniffen9427 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. It depends on the context and situation. When standing it is hard to wrist lock someone with a closed fist, especially if they are resisting using a lot of strength. One thing you could do is distract them, like poking them in the throat to make them think about that and not focus on a closed fist. Then you might be able to do the wrist lock. I would probably transition to another technique like waki gatame and either use that or transition back to the wrist lock. Here is an example from another video I did. th-cam.com/video/ucpre7G6wWE/w-d-xo.html Now if you are on the ground you can wrist lock someone with a closed fist. I mostly teach BJJ and have finished many people who have had a closed fist. On the ground, you can isolate their arm by controlling it with your legs, body, and arms.

    This is good technique. Don't get me wrong. But, some of these dudes out there can throw a really FAST round house kick, and your reflexes may not be fast enough to angle off to catch it. In other words your reaction time might be slower than his delivery time. Some of the best fighters in MMA have been floored by a round house kick to the side of the neck or the head. And, these guy train diligently and are in top condition. If you can see it coming, your technique is excellent. But, if you get distracted by a fake move or something else, your reaction time if missed by a fraction of a second spells bad news.

    • @waynesniffen9427

      True. Against a good figther you may have decide the appropriate time to use this technique or do something else like checking it. Better yet for self defense is to move out of range of the kick. This is a technique I used when I fought full contact 33+ years ago. MMA has come a long way since then. Thanks for your comment.

      As a Judoka I wanted to show a Judo technique to counter a strike. All techniques have counters and if morote gari (double leg) is not setup correctly you will get a knee to the face. At the end of the video, I talk about a few ways to setup the shot and not just blindly dive in. You can see this technique used successfully in MMA and in street fights. A good college wrestler can shoot in so quickly that it is hard to get them with a knee. One of my students is an ex D1 wrestler and he is so good that I have a hard time countering him.

    Let me get this straight. You block the roundhouse kick, trip him, and then *straight ankle lock” the guy? Possibly leave your feet to do it? Dude, what if he has a pocket knife? Your legs are right there to filet. Soccer kick him in the gooch, back out, and find safety.

    • @waynesniffen9427
      @waynesniffen9427 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, if this was on the street I would just slam my opponent. And like you mention kick them and get away. The standing leg lock is something you might do to control someone. The going to the ground is more of something I might do in MMA or sport.

  • @johnt2831
    @johnt2831 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeah, that's nice. However, what about when the roundhouse kick is to the head, or a leg kick? It is easy to say what techniques you will do in certain situations. But this is different in real life. I am a Man who truly believes that there is a time and place for every technique, every situation. For instance, I love the flying knee. However, just because I love it does not mean that I will do it. There has to be an opening for that. Closing the distance, side stepping, angles, blocking, deflecting, counters, grabbing, throwing, choking, joint locks. And so many more,..... all of these techniques, all have a time and a place to enact them. I have never been in a real fight where I used certain techniques because it didn't call for it at that time. When a real fight happens, it happens so fast that you have to be well aware of your surroundings because you never know if he or she has friends there. Do you really want to take it to the ground, where someone could run in if their friend is losing and get kicked in the face? I am just saying be well aware of your surroundings and who is there. I got into a fight in a bar once and it went to the ground with him on top. I pulled guard, used my legs, which I never see anyone doing in BJJ or Judo, and pulled him into me. Then I arched up, and slapped on the guillotine. I was about to chock him out and put him to sleep but then the bouncer came and saved him. Keep training. Oss!!!!!

    • @waynesniffen9427
      @waynesniffen9427 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. You are correct. Anything can happen in a fight which is why it is important to do live training like sparring. In this technique, I am closing the distance to make it easier to catch the leg if it is going high. But, depending on the circumstance I may not even use this technique. If this was a real fight I probably would not follow up with going to the ground. I'd just slam the guy into the ground. I added the groundwork for something you could do if this was sport. And just something I added while filming.🙂When I am sparring or grappling I just flow into what feels right. Which sounds like what you do. Using the technique that works for the situation.🤙

    Great. I did judo as a kid from like when i was 6 and later used this basic concept many times when some idiot threw a wild swing at me and always felt so natural and easy yet usually gave them a whole new perspective on attaching people haha. Especially if they dont know how to land. Without being so dangerous or risk badly hurting them as much as some others. Never knew that arm bar though, looks good and no need to go on the ground and get my shirt dirty haha. Think its probably a good combo for beginners too if they drill enough yeah? Thanks Sir. Just found your channel recent and liking it.

    If youre arms are smaller than the opponents, than its likely to easily slip out of it than the other, when i did ju jitsu my opponents were smaller so they were able to slip out, easier than i was, which is partly why they have weight classes.

      You can actually counter what I show in this video. You just have to be more technical with the pass. In Jiu Jitsu for ever counter there is a counter to it, and then a counter to that, etc...
