  • Finishing the Z (Aoki) Lock using the Small Circle grip and wrist extension. I took the Small Circle Jujitsu concepts I learned from my dad and great uncle Wally Jay and applied them to this submission. This is a high percentage technique for me.

    Nice to see your teaching Sensei Wayne. Very nice details. As Professor Wally Jay used to say "It's the little things.".
    I got to meet your Dad at one of Prof Wally Jay's birthday events. It was educational to listen to him and Alan talk about the old days. They used to issue a belt buckle with two black belts in gi bowing facing each other. Your Dad and Alan reposed for me bowing to each other for a picture as they were the original models.

      Thank you. I remember seeing you at my uncle's 90th birthday party. My dad and I flew down for it. I think I still have that buckle you mention which was my dad's. I did not know they were the models for it. I definitely use the Small Circle concepts in all my martial arts. Currently I mostly teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and sometimes I teach Judo at a friends school.

      @@waynesniffen9427 Your Grand Aunt Bernice will be 100 next year. She and Wally are my mentors - so many wonderful memories with them.
      Alan and Pam, Alberta, Jim (Antoinette passed), Professor Leon and Sandra still very active. Your Uncle Doug (US Navy Judo Champ 4 years in a row) and his wife in Hawaii. Your Uncle Darryl's boys and grandkids are pretty active martial artists (ask your Uncle Darryl about the time he "small circled" Wally's birthday cake!). Chef Rick Oku and I follow your posts. We are very proud of you.
      Much aloha.

      In the Home Dojo in Alameda. There is a long ceiling beam of wood. Bernice and Wally told me your Grandfather held up one end by himself and it took 4 strong guys on the other end to hold up the other while they put it in place. He held up the end where they had the heavy bag for boxing. Great story how your Grandfather and Grandmother met.

      @@rick3chopstickswong295 Thank you. I do keep somewhat in touch with the Sniffens. And i heard many stories of the Sniffen brothers, along with Uncle Alan and Uncle Wally. I did not know that Auntie Antoinette passed.😢 I have heard the story of my grandfather, dad, and uncles putting up the heavy bag. I'm not sure if I heard how my grandparents met. If you are on facebook you can friend me and we talk story some more. I'd like to hear more about those old stories. When you are a kid you don't really think about those things.

    do you train any small circle finger locks?

    • @waynesniffen9427
      @waynesniffen9427  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I have trained them. Since I mostly teach/train BJJ and Submission grappling now I don't really do them much. They are very good for self defense. But, occasionally when I teach self defense techniques I will cover them.
