Grand Master Remy Presas was a friend of Wally Jai and incorporated a lot of small circle ju jitsu into Modern Arnis. Surprisingly effective stuff!! I uncomfortably remember a variation of the dance of pain . Ahh the good old days!

I never met Grand Master Remy Presas but I heard a lot of good things about him from my great uncle Wally Jay. Thanks for the comment.

Very humble of Wayne. If he wanted to at any moment he could have double legged Leon and made him feel a dance of pain on the mat

This was just demo and not a sparing match. Once Leon gets a hold of me he can finish me at anytime. He is going easy on me in this video.

@waynesniffen9427 Out of curiosity can he pull any of that off when you are going full bjj mode or how about say if you start in his guard. Would you get locked up trying to pass his guard. I have a hard time believing hed finish you as ive done both arts and from everything ive seen and done, it's bjj all the way

@waynesniffen9427 I hope im not being disrespectful. Perhaps Leon could walk a typical bjj black belt all over that mat and make him paun dance. But im speaki g more of the typical student, not a grandmaster like Wally. Like I think a typical bjj purple belt can easily wiggle out of any typical scj standing stuff take him down and tap him. Like in general through the rolling at full resistance the bjj goes way further whereas the typical scj student really never deals with 100% sparing and resistance

@@Seegie16 It probably depends on the school. SCJ is geared for self defense and not sport. Not sure how much groundwork other SCJ schools do. Modern SCJ incorporates a lot of striking. I can tell you how I personally use it and have used it. For me I use SCJ for basic self defense before a fight starts. Like when someone grabs me. If it turns into a fight I would probably use Judo to throw my opponent. And if it goes to the ground Gracie Jiu Jitsu. But, on the street I prefer not to fight on the ground. I have also done some boxing and full contact karate so I might use that. Most of the modern SCJ guys do some form of striking so they would probably use that. I think people overlook that my uncle also taught Judo. Which is what my dad and uncles including Leon all did. When I worked security I used a lot of SCJ and it all worked well.

@@Seegie16 I don't know what kind of training he does and we have not really talked about it. I can tell you I have wrist locked locked brown and black belts in BJJ both standing and on the ground. And finger locks are illegal in BJJ. Oh, and back in the day I did a full contact match with a guy who was a kick boxer and did jiu jitsu who was way bigger than me. I used a toe lock on him that my uncle wally showed me and finished the match with it. I found out later I broke his big toe. It wasn't on purpose. He did not want to tap so I kept applying pressure.

I find it strange that Wally Jay was very highly regarded but his system is little known or taught around the UK even after having his son living here for many years. Is there more to the system than finger locks?

oh, yeah. Wally Jay is my great uncle so Leon is my cousin. My father was part of my uncle's first Judo team and he had one of the top teams in Northern California. He had to go outside the traditional way of doing Judo to be successful. He would sometimes say, if you have good Judo you have good Jujitsu. And of course he also taught Jujitsu. Small Circle Jujitsu has all the techniques you find in other Jujitsu styles like throws, chokes, armbars, pins, etc... As my uncle got older it was easier for him to train and teach yawara (hand arts). And finger locks are easier when you get older. If you look at my channel I have other Small Circle Jujitsu techniques. In fact I don't think I have uploaded a finger lock video yet.😀

@@waynesniffen9427 I think it’s LOCATION, if Leon had been in central London or closer to that area I think the art would of spread more in U.K. I looked at attending his club 20 years ago after meeting him at a Guro Dan Inosanto seminar held in Dartford and bottom line was just to far away to realistically be able to train regularly or at weekly classes.

can someone tell me if there was any kind of combat or challenge between Small Circle Jujitsu vs Brazilian Jiu jitsu??? I know that the Gracies had fights in Hawaii. There was never a challenge between these two schools, Wally Jai school vs Gracie school?? If anyone can answer me, I'd appreciate it!

I don't know of any challenge matches. I do know that one of Professor Wally Jay's students was one of the first American BJJ black belts. His name is David Meyer. My uncle never said his style was the best. He felt that Small Circle Jujitsu could complement other styles.
