    Somewhat unrelated to the topic, but It's so strange to hear someone describe the boarding school experience as something positive. To me, these 2 words (as well as "summer camp" and similar institutions) have always been synonyms to "hell on Earth" and "child abuse". I always saw boarding schools as some kind of sadistic punishment for kids whose parents hate them. It was one of my biggest fears as a teenager and even now as a 31-old guy I shudder whenever I hear those words. I absolutely can't imagine my life without my own home or at least my own personal room in my home. A place where there is no-one else, just me, a quiet personal space where I can return after school/work. And all the strangers (non-family-members) are out there, and we are separated by 2 steel doors. "My home is my fortress" as we say in my country. >speaks fluent English >"I'm bad in English" bruh 34:21 - that part was shocking. Anyway, whoa, that was one hell of a story. The longest but also one of the easist to watch of those I've ever watched.

    I love this movie. I used to go to the midnight showings in the 1980s. It appealed to everyone at the time. We all yelled the audience parts that were created by the fans. Some people dressed up. I agree with you about the queer identity, but everyone loved this movie.

    I love this movie! Its a thinly disguised Bowie biopic, basically Haynes did as much as he could get away with using allusions and metaphor. If you read Angie Bowie's book, you will see the the inferences even more. The actors did a great job with what they had. Ewan was a hybrid of Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Mick Ronson(see the gold outfits and guitar string eating scenes). I read that Ewan, drunk, once met Iggy Pop and started jumping around and telling him what a fan he was and how he liked playing him. Ewan said Iggy just looked at him & walked away & he was so embarrassed.

      @@AndyVillin “specific audience” is where I have a bit of an issue. I feel it alienates everyone else. This is an incredible movie about the human experience as a whole rather than a specific group in my opinion. We both appreciate this masterpiece which I think is more important. Hey, to be fair, I think it's a very simple issue; My channel is all about queer cinema and therefore I'm going at the films with that angle. In no way am I trying to insinuate that this film's only value is that it features a gay character. That's simply what my channel and my viewers care about specifically. It's true that this film has many themes and relevant threads to pull on, and you loving it, no matter the reason (we all bring our own baggage and experience to films after all), well I celebrate that for you! :))

    I agree with you on most of what you say. However, I still question that scene where Remi goes to the bathroom after fighting with Leo and his mother tells him that she doesn't like him to lock himself in there. Was Remi suffering from something and we as viewers didn't know about it? Did he commit suicide just because his friend abandoned him a little?

    Didn't they say the person playing the trans guy is actually a real trans guy? Cus it is pretty annoying when they can't get an actual trans person to play the role. However something I have noticed on the RARE occasion they find someone who is actually a trans man... is they are before hormone therapy or very early on before the changes of testosterone have happened. This kind of gives the unaware public that all trans men are like this. I don't tell many people this because I prefer people do not know but I am a trans guy (on T for about 3 years now) and people just think I'm a cis guy. This is what testosterone does to a trans guy who takes hormones. This is something the public need to know. Us trans guys can feel very invisible to the world. I don't like telling people because people just don't get it. I only tell people who need to know. If I'm talking with other LGBT people I'll be comfortable saying it right away. But if it's people outside the LGBT community, I am a little scared to tell people due to traumatic experiences it can cause.

There are so few movies about transgender identity and this is the only one I know of that is about a gay trans man.The way that Tosiek escapes reality is so realistic. It’s a great story and the acting was wonderful. I don’t agree that a trans actor should have played the role, I think Murphy was perfect, and that is why the film works. I see no trauma in Neil. He was into older men with moustache since he was 8. To call this trauma is not a psychological assessment but a moral one. Brian, on the other hand, did experience it as traumatic. I think we should be more careful when using psychological terminology. Just because we don't understand how an 8yo boy can have such a sexual drive doesn't mean there's something pathological about it. It may just be illegal or immoral, but there's a big difference between the two.

    • @juanjimenez62
      @juanjimenez62 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AndyVillin Sure, paedophilia may be wrong by our moral standards, but that only makes it wrong from our cultural perspective. There's nothing pathological about it, just a socially unacceptable behaviour. I think that if Neil had repressed his sexuality as a child, he would have experienced it as a trauma. He doesn't because he is able to break the social rules.
