I first saw this movie at its premiere “flop”. Some people just didn’t understand camp. It was fun to be part of the initial cult development. To this day, nobody can sport a pair of spikes better than Curry. No Body!
Oh my God. That you decide to review this movie today! The freshman year at my college had a freshmen week and one of the activities was to bring a movie to the soccer field. (I am talking huge movie screen and theater projector. They went all out for us. ) and I was a very naive kid that just came from Puerto Rico to go to school. Closeted case per excellence. Well. We all sat on the soccer field and the movie started. It was already evening and drinks popcorn was being passed around. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Well... I blushed SO BAD I thought people could see me glowing in the dark. That was also for me the beginning of me coming out process. I lived a very sheltered life in Puerto Rico and came to school to😮 Florida without friends and or family. It was the first time I was by myself in the world. A world called Orlando, FL at Rollins College in Winter Park There was also a song that also opened my eyes and I shake just thinking about it. It was the one before yours 'i am coming home'. It kept repeating in the pool scene. "Be it .. don't dream it." That was it for me. BTW this was in 1981, I was 19... I didn't fully come out until my senior year in College. Wow., You read my mind today!
Fuck, you discovered my super power... Ahahah That's a really sweet story, and I like the way you tell it - and yeah, that song is gorgeous too. Really, this entire soundtrack is so infectious with positivity and joy if you ask me
@@AndyVillin Every Saturday at midnight the movies at the mall (Gainesville, FL University of FL) this movie was shown. People came dressed up and lines were added to the movie by the crowd to make the movie funnier. Have to admit., I went a couple of times and enjoyed every second of it. People were quite festive (if you know what I mean)
I love this movie. I used to go to the midnight showings in the 1980s. It appealed to everyone at the time. We all yelled the audience parts that were created by the fans. Some people dressed up. I agree with you about the queer identity, but everyone loved this movie.
I looovvee this film! I wish they had the Money to film the original play at the Royal Court theater (upstairs) on 16mm! I would kill to see the first Production!!❤❤❤❤

My thing is the over the top leather jacket Frank wears later in the film. Love that fit hahaha
But yeah I envy you that experience!
