I lived on Maui for a year and it was incredibly beautiful... but, I got island fever and longed to go biking in midwest farm country, sit by a quiet little pond, walk in an autumn forest, and just get in the car and drive to see other ecosystems. That was the biggest drawback to island living for me. Also, having the same weather day after day got VERY old.

I feel sorry for you. You sound so miserable. Better you not live here. As a local I am glad you are moving. You should find where u can be happy. I cannot stand all the negativity you are spewing out. I feel sorry for you. Be happy and find your joy. There is positive and negative in every situation. If you only focus on what is negative, that’s what you will only see.

I'm sorry about your e perience. It's changed alot since covid. Àlot of people don't want tourist but know that this the islands main income. Also there's alot of anger over housing.locals can't often afford to buy here because so much of the real-estate is bought by mainlanders and foreigners and turned into vacation rentals. There nothing available and what is is outrageously overpriced. A bedroom in a shared house is 1200 to 1600 a month. Alot of the restraunts have also been bought out and since covid the ability to find good workers has gotten even harder. I'm born and raised on the big island, and trust me, it's not you or being Samoan or hapa, it's just all the changes. The older locals are mostly still welcoming but the younger generation has definitely hanve definitely changed. Please don't take it personal 💜 I hope you and your ohana have a great time in maui.

More cons than pros. People considering moving to Hawaii, DON’T. Unless you’re making banks, you will be hustling two to three jobs just to make ends meet and that won’t leave you much time to enjoy the nice weather and beaches. Trust me, you’ll be a statistic if you can’t make it in Hawaii as the cost of living is extremely high.

I was visiting my dad who lived on Nu'Uanu blvd, Honolulu for a few decades and swear everytime I went there was more and more building! Before he passed away he was venting, upset about the plan for the train system. He lived there since 1986 so he was able to experience that beautiful island when it wasn't as built up and populated. Thank you!

I was stationed there in 1970 and1971. Marine air control squadron 2. There are no more air control squadrons, but our HQ and radar facilities were on Mokapu Rd. on the other side of the runway. We overlooked Pyramid Rock beach and basically had it to ourselves. Our HQ and motor pool buildings are still there but the radar site is all grown over like it never existed. Our barracks is still there on KBay Rd. near 5th St. right next to the mess hall. Hawaii was an absolute paradise.

I lived at MCAB Kaneohe back in 68-70 as a dependent. I was 7-9 years old, but I loved it.

You would do better to focus more on the base than your faces if you really want people to see what it looks like. I lived on that base for 3 years and didnt recognize anything, its changed alot since 1975-1978. Maybe you cant show more of the base than you did....

Please Ryan I need your precious opinion: I am 31 from Italy, In 2 years I will have 3 degrees, currently speak fluently 5 languages while I have studied 8 and I work as firmware developer in a French multinational company. Do you think I have a chance within the next two years to land a job in the tech sector in Hawaii? The 5 languages I speak: Italian, English, French, German, Chinese. Plus I have knowledge of Japanese, Spanish and Russian. The 3 degrees: Languages and cultures, Robotics, Applied artificial intelligence. The tech degrees have been undertaken under the stricter requirements of an international university in Germany.

Also haven’t seen the whole video but also, don’t except to be able to get everything shipped out here that you can get in the mainland. I work at lowes and it is crazy to me how many people from the mainland move here and get mad at me because they have to wait 6-10 weeks to get things shipped out here from the mainland.

Tip for moving to Hawaii if you have pets: plan vet appointments way out in advance. You have to have health certificates for all pets that you take out here. And certain animals (hamsters, snakes, ferrets, etc) are illegal here.

Do you think it would be better to just sell your vehicles and use Uber to get around since traffic and parking is so bad in Hawaii.

So I'm retired thinking of moving to Oahu, I want to "RENT" a apartment, I like lots of people, coffee shops, restaurants, shopping, Oh, and I love the beach. I use a Handicap scooter for distance, but can walk. Where would you suggest for me? I could live in a "residence hotel" that catered to tourists and residents. I'm 81 years old I don't want to buy - too much up-keep. which I can no longer do?
