do not move to Hawaii. Non-Locals keep moving to the islands which is making the housing market ridiculous and then they leave and new people transplant here every 2 years. The culture and morals of Hawaii need to be kept, versus rich white people moving to Hawaii to isolate and never give back to the community.

Yeah, I lived on Oahu and Maui for many years. I'm retired now and living in Colorado, and I'm glad that I moved away. Frankly, it was just too expensive for me. It's like you would be at a beach bar-b-que with good friends, plenty of cold beer, the beautiful sunset on the horizon, and all you could think about is the rent, the car payment, and when they are due.

I was considering moving to Hawaii from Florida, but after intense research I decided I will stay in Florida. I would not be able to buy the type of home I have in Florida in Hawaii for $450-$500K!! I also understand that some homes in Hawaii cannot be insured due to their location near the lava flow (USGS survey.) Most upgrades I have seen in homes do not have permits, hence they are uninsurable or you cannot get a mortgage. The volcano can spit VOG gases and the air quality might be compromised. The cost of living in Hawaii is much higher than in Florida, like gas, groceries, eating out, and other overall expenses. Property taxes are lower in Hawaii, but then they get you with State Tax for IRA contributions (which I do get monthly since I am retired.) No State Tax in Florida at all. Then there is the isolation syndrome in the islands, being far from great Hospitals (I have some health issues), theme parks, shopping malls, etc. And last but not least, the weather in a specific location has its own micro-climate, which can be annoying since you cannot get a home in a consistent climate area. In Florida, what you see is what you get as far as climate- dry and comfortable in the winter and humid/rainy in the rainy season (May-Oct.) I decided to stay in Florida, since I still have my tropical climate, access to great theme parks, lower cost for homes, cars, food, gas. etc. I live inland, in Ocala, so I don't really worry about hurricanes (I prepare anyway, but I never had to evacuate in 30 years since living in Florida.) Hawaii is very beautiful much like California, but after careful research (based on my annual retiree IRS/SS income of $45K), the bang for my buck will go a longer way in Florida than Hawaii. It's all about economics not ergonomics.

It is not grammatically correct to say "more cleaner." This phrase contains a grammatical error known as a double comparative. In English, we have two ways to form comparatives for adjectives: 1. For most one-syllable adjectives and some two-syllable adjectives, we add "-er" to the end. For example: - clean → cleaner - fast → faster - pretty → prettier 2. For longer adjectives (usually two syllables or more), we use "more" before the adjective. For example: - beautiful → more beautiful - intelligent → more intelligent - complicated → more complicated The word "clean" falls into the first category, so the correct comparative form is simply "cleaner." Using both "more" and "-er" together is redundant and incorrect. Correct usage would be: - "This shirt is cleaner than that one." - "I need a cleaner solution to this problem." If you wanted to emphasize the degree of difference, you could use adverbs like "much" or "even": - "This shirt is much cleaner than that one." - "I need an even cleaner solution to this problem." Remember, for the superlative form (the highest degree), we would use "cleanest" rather than "most clean."

Looks like this channel might be abandoned (happens alot), but if anyone reads this, my advice (former Hawaii resident 26 years)? #1: Do a TON of research first....even if it takes several years, INCLUDING understanding the culture there. So do not relocate on a "whim." This might include visiting two or even three times first (and NOT as a "tourist") before taking the big "plunge". Costly, yes. But totally worth it in the LONG run! #2: Do NOT move there, unless you can afford to be COMFORTABLE. And with this inflation now, this is absolutely critical. Otherwise, and I can almost guarantee, you will be miserable, and in a year, you'll be on that plane mainland bound. That's it! Anyhoos, good luck.

I grew up in waipio about 100 yards away from kipapa elementary school during the late 40s and early 60s in what is now mililani. It was a great place to grow up. There was a lot of open space although most of it was pineapple fields. There was an abundance of guava trees, passion fruit, and mango trees . Along a little ditch which was constantly flowing. Back in those days we kids did not have much to worry about as far as being safe from crime.
