Threading a bike fork Steerer Tube. Unthreaded to threaded Bike steerer tube
มุมมอง 3.7Kปีที่แล้ว
In this Video, I add threading to a unthreading bike fork. Using a Die specifically made for threading steerer tubes. The tool I used was a VAR 40B Die holder and a VAR 97698 die for 1 1/8th inch, 26 tpi and with a 60 degree angle. This can be of course replicated for 1 inch and 1 1/4 inch forks using the suitable die.
Converting a Shimano hub 130 to 135mm wheel
มุมมอง 3Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video I demonstrate how to convert a Shimano hub that has a 130mm OLN (Over lock nut dimension) to a 135mm. This enable you to use a wheel that was once built with a 130mm axel spacing to a larger 135 spacing. This same procedure can be done for 126 to 130. You would only want to do this if you already have a rear wheel, that could be used on another frame.

SRAM: more springs, no winter
i'm watching this again a year later as I just scored a swell 1992 Kona FireMountain almost stock . Your grey tires remind me of a late 90's build I did using a late 80's Meile i had repainted burgandy after bodyfilling and then smoothin out the welds. they grey tires made it pop. Cheers !
And they’re cheap
@@atboy4342 yes, both 90's bikes and the tires. the cheapest tires i have ever owned were the grey Kenda's at 13 bucks each. but i had to have them for the bike.
thx bro 🥰
Big Thanks! I'd been told mine was broken & needed replacement. This vid has sorted me.
I have a thumb shifter, it's not a Shimano. It's either a TB-one or TD-one. One of them has a screw on the top, but the other one doesn't and there is literally no visible way it should come off... Help?
Hi, would need a model to know exactly what you have. Generally, its always from the top or interior

Might be Made In France, but Sachs is German. And the ubercomplexity of that derailleur, indeed, has that German over-engineering written all over it. Do things need to be THIS complicated?
I ride campy mirage, it's been great for me, no plans to change.
Like your video,sir...subscribe
Well, just put it inside the solution, which made it clean and apply grease after... better than dismantle everything 😅... somethin may gone wrong...very informative video ,sir. Tq
I have seen a document showing how to replace the bearings on a UN-55. The metal ring of the UN-52 is interesting, and I am not sure of its function (outside of preventing overhauling), which clearly Shimano is not concerned with the UN-300, because that is easily serviceable.
Thank you for posting this! Nice work. Gonna give my a try.
Beautiful mountains, where are you?
The whole point of this fantastic levers,it seems no one gets.. if you screw the bolt way in.. there is a bearing on the thing the wire is conected to.. and it will start the furthest out when you start pulling the lever.. (long travel on the wire with small movement on the lever) so the v brakes can be far from the rim! Then when the pads start pressing on the rim those bearings slide inwards in the groove more the harder you brake.. så the leverage is insane!! One finger is all you need to fly over the frontwheel!! And not even pulling hard!! That skrew is to prohibit the bearing go all the way in because it is just redicolous.. so you can choose how much "servo effect" you want…😉
It takes courage to do this. Great work. Thanks so much. Very helpful and informative.
Have you sold this yet? If not, I’m very interested
good. you should get a c-clip plier
Same procedure for gx to xx1 Rear derailleur?
9:05 You can see, that these elastomers are much too big in diameter. They have literally no chance to expand during compression and will bump and be limited by the inner walls of the tubes. This here, cant work properly. Sorry :-) You might get a compression way of 10mm if youre lucky :-)
23:37 favorite part :)
Interesting Topic - would deserve a more professional made Video - Tone is bad. If the little allen screw rounds out (as they always do), yes, use a Torx bit, but put the tip of a 50Watt soldering iron on the screw for about two minutes, this will break the loctite - never failed for me!
Its the best video ive came accross yet explaining and showing the parts and what they do and how to work them cheers ive watched loads of stupid vids teyna get the rite hub to suit my ebike wheel as it came with no threading so its like a frontwheel ebike but its clearly larger axle on one side but ill still be on ly able to fit a 567 id be glad with 5 to be honest once im not ghost cycling i dont mind 👍subbed
Brilliant this is what i needed the freewheel can be adapted to a ebike that has no big threads and the smaller screw one u shown screws into the outer axle as im lookin foe a ebike
Thanks so much for this
Thanks for this! At 18 minutes, you begin to reassemble the thumb shift lever that has the snail spring on the back of it and unfortunately you move the lever off camera so that we cannot see how you set it up. Sussing that out was the hardest part of the reassembly for me. It did not occur to me to take pics of my own to post here when I had figured it out, until it was finished. And I am not doing that again, as it took several tries! Only by replaying the few bits that you managed to catch on camera was I able to guess how the spring might have been set up, and particularly how the little spring-loaded cam on the back of the lever was supposed to be positioned, pushed all the way left and held there before turning the lever over (the lever needs to then be turned anti-clockwise a bit as you press it against the unit to allow the cam to fall into place before turning the lever again clockwise to its resting place) and pressing it back into place. I very grudgingly took mine apart when it stopped working, hoping to find something obvious. I noticed when taking it apart that the entire unit had more play in it than seemed appropriate, as if the 8mm nut holding it all together had not been tight enough, which seems odd since it is held in place by the daisy-lock. When I put that nut back on after reassembling it all, I made sure to make it tight enough so that there was no wiggle room for all the layers sitting stacked around the central axel. Other than that, I found the first little E clamp had come off and was bent open so that it would not stay in place. I thought I was doomed without a replacement clamp, but I managed to bend it back by holding it in the big teeth of a standard pliers (which is perfect because it cannot slip out of place then) and squeezing just a bit... so that it could hold onto the pin when pressed against it, as intended. That might have been what was wrong with my unit, plus the wiggle room. I hope never to do that again! It was VERY fiddly and took me over an hour.
Thanks! Your video helped me a lot!!!
Thanks for taking the effort to share this. Any idea on how thick the central sleeve is/ was? I'm wondering if it could be tapped (with say an M6 thread) and periodically removed to have a grease nipple screwed in, and fresh grease pumped through it. ...I too am curious, as to just how a unit with play in, would feel after replacing with new balls (+ full clean up and regrease); can't help but wonder if wear to the spindle and other races might mean that it'll still have a tiny amount of slop.
Hi, sorry i dont have it under my hands anymore. Yes if the spindle is worn, it would probably still have play. This is only good for adding new ball bearings and a refresh of grease
@@atboy4342 Not to mention, there would be contaminated grease that would need to be removed, or else, you are just adding new grease and immediately contaminating it.

Thank you, very helpful. With all the bits laid out on the table it is not straightforward how these go back together without a step by step video like yours.
Thank you for video <3 +1
Really interesting design from France !
bro can you change the cage of that rd to a bigger cage?
Good video clear concise
Thanks a lot for that vidéo, it helps a lot. However, do not reassemble the front cover (31:30) before the two side covers (32:50), especially the right one. There is a small plastic part holding a spring (we can see it at 20:05) that has to be on the top of the right cover. When I did the reassembly one month ago, I follow your video and the small plastic part ended below the right cover. After a few use of the lever it stopped working because the small plastic part was blocking the mecanism.
do not use carburetor cleaner, you will melt the plastic.
I had bought the same translucent yellow elastomer cylinder for a fork rebuild, but it turned out to be of way too hard material. It had hardness of something like 90 on Shore scale. It barely compressed under human weight. After some additional more careful search I found another elastomer specimen with hardness of 30 on Shore scale, and that one worked just fine.
30 is much too soft for bicycle forks. You must be somehow mistaken there. Optimum - for a normal male - is between SHORE 50-70. Anything below is for children. Cheers!
@@DJFalkoHannover You are correct! I forgot to mention that the fork was tuned for a child (~35 kg or less). Additionally, it only used elastomers in its negative spring (the positive spring is air).
@@GrigoryRechistov No problem mate :-) Still, your elastomers are too big in diameter and dont have a chance to expand during compression :-) Check out 9:05 theyre almost as thick as the inner diameter of the tube :-)
@@DJFalkoHannover Those are not my elastomers. But I agree, given that the volume of each cylinder is constant, under compression they must become wider. And there should be enough place for them to expand.
@@GrigoryRechistov Ah okay... yeah I guess you bought the Aliexpress rods then, right?
Install begins 15:13

I had that screw come off and of course the spring as well... thanks for that tutorial would have been completely lost especially with that spring 🤣 - I just put some loctite on the screw to block it completely as those 4 edges don't see to do a good trick...
