- Simplex Selematic 5 rear derailleur. Crazy design and weighing in at 525g. From What I’ve read, it was realised in 1981 and ceased possibly by the mid 80’s. This is the 6 speed later model. Patented by it’s inventer Pierre Bonnard. Licensed under ANVAR, made by Simplex.

An interesting piece. Heavy but very innovative. It must have been the first indexed gears of its type, Bravo and excellent pronunciation of the French by the way.
Looks like the indexing is in the derailleur, with the pawls interacting with that right angle plate that goes perpendicular from the pulley cage. If you try a totally friction shifter, I bet it'll still be indexed.
Also, looks like that smaller spring may act as a two way clutch like the one in a Huret Ratchet shifter.
