Thanx...I have this on a 1972 Peugeot. There's no more tension on the chain causing slipping. If I fail repairing it, is there a modern replacement?

Modern, probably a shimano tourney. On ebay you can find replacement old stock springs. I don’t know where you are in the world, but these derailleurs are fairly cheap used.
