    I bought one in the summer when they came out. I walked into my local Seiko AD and to my surprise, there it was. I bought it on sight. I absolutely love this watch. It's like no other watch I own. It's the perfect balance between modern and retro. Great video, as always. Thanks and have a great 2024!

      Yeah and I went my the watch store to get 2 batteries for these 2 watches I got off eBay and they both worked. Anyway, I always checkout their window display and this watch really grabbed me and I wanted. But they wanted $475. and more than I wanted to pay. So I’m gonna try to find one on eBay for less before they run out (not sure how many they made for the limited edition?).
      I already have too many watches but this one I want to own and have.

      @jacknjill3000 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh and I thought he said 1555 and didn’t know it was limited to 15,555.
      Also, Seiko can’t make money if they limited it to 1000 and for most mid range watch companies. Or of limited to 1000, each watch would cost 10k to make it worth while to make and bring back. So the lower price has to be made up by volume.
      You have Omega and Rolex doing the high end limited editions only a few can afford.

  • @PhantomObserver
    @PhantomObserver 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I do have this model. A couple of points:
    -- The watch box this comes in is plastic, hearkens back to the original Seiko 5 box design.
    -- The small crown: it's possible to wind it by stroking it along the side of your finger, moving from 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock so that the crowh turns clockwise. You don't want to push too hard because you risk blistering. You can also do the Seiko Shuffle (shake the watch back and forth about 300 times rapidly for a full wind).
    -- When you consider that most "limited edition" watches tend to be priced with four figures, this is actually an absolute bargain.

    • @jacknjill3000

    It got me into Seiko 5. It's a work of art, echoing an era long gone. I've never come across a watch this beautiful. Made me dive into all those old vintage Seikos this is inspired on. I need to sell some stocks to make some cash first, but it's on my very short list.

  • @gufomag
    @gufomag 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The watch is absolutely beautiful, but I think it has some shortcomings compared to a limited edition special watch. This watch definitely had to have sapphire glass.
    Another important point is that due to the design of the watch, the part where the strap meets the watch is quite thin. Since the spaces surrounding the pins of ordinary silicone bands are thick, they do not sit on this watch, and even if they do, they do not move easily. It should have been sold with an extra black silicone strap specially produced for this watch. So there should have been both a bracelet and a silicone strap in the box.

    I own a number of Seiko automatic watches. In my experience, every watch with an older 7S26 movement keeps better time than the NH35 and 36 watches I own. Perhaps this is a fluke or maybe it is common. The newer movements tend to run plus 12 seconds a day where the older ones are minus 2 to 4.

      Nice and now o want one before they sell out. I just found out about this watch by visiting my watch store last Tuesday and was in love. About 20 years ago I used to look for vintage Seikos from the 60’s and 70’s.
      Even tho the price is fair, I have to wait a month or 2 to be able to buy it. I have too many watches in my collection, vintage Seikos and Citizens, but I want this watch.

  • @marcusa3177

    let's add a bit more context here: Seiko only has... 3? watches with a Pogue-style case currently in production now (with a decently modern movement): the Turtle/King Turtle, the Navigator GMT reissue (SPB411) with a run of 4000 copies, then this at 15555 copies. Chances are Seiko will release reissues of their chronos from the 60s, but we don't know when that will happen. So yes, if you love the Pogue case design language and you're not a fan of dive watches (or you already have a Turtle) then this watch is probably your best bet.
    I have one; it's actually quite the strap monster provided you use thin ones (single-pass NATOs, two-piece leather straps, even Perlon) that respect the colorway. NGL I'm thinking of putting this in a Milanese bracelet to complete the 70s/80s look

    I have this watch - love the design and it is probably the best bang for your buck around $500. That said, my copy was made in Taiwan not Japan (not sure why) and one thing that annoys me is how hard it is to operate the crown even though my hands are on the smaller side. I also think that somebody with a lot of hair on your wrist would not like this bracelet as it can pull your hair.

    I think I want to like this more than I actually do? I feel so ready to pull the trigger on it, but I just can't make it past the cart for some reason, and I really can't figure out why; just the nagging feeling it wouldn't get the wrist time it deserves, and I'd be getting it to tick the yet-unticked Seiko 5 checkbox for my collection.

    I returned mine. Much as I liked the idea of it, it’s just too small for a biggish wrist (195mm round, 60mm across in my case.) The lugless shape accentuates that and the dial looks tiny inside all those concentric rings. The bracelet seems to have flex and stiffness in all the wrong places for me too. Pity, because it looks great, just not on me!

    I often like the aesthetics of these reissue watches but the price point seems higher than necessary for what you get on account of retro nostalgia. $400+ could manage more than mineral crystal at least. I’m sure others will disagree but hey-ho. Maybe vintage examples are money, I’m not sure.

  • @karlsenula9495
    @karlsenula9495 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Love the retro dial and lugs here ... as with all Seiko reissues it depends on the price and the specs and QC you get to go with the looks for the money.
    Pressed clasp, only two micro-adjusts (although here it helps that the links look smaller making it easier to get a good fit), unsigned crown, friction bezel, mineral crystal. The 4R movement is ok. Do the markers line up in the bezel not sure if it is the camera angle but it does not look like they do.
    $415 price tag ... is ok, especially for a limited edition, but does not seem great for the specs and QC.
    Considering that their pricing is starting to go upmarket they really need to up their specs and QC.

  • @Pelarys
    @Pelarys 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Interesting watch, looks very unique. They really nailed the vintage aesthetic and I like the case and its dimensions. I must admit even at this price point I'm always a little put off with Seiko watches due to the fact that they almost never provide sapphire crystal. For this kind of sporty watch I think it's a bit of a shame 'cause I know I'm gonna scratch them working or climbing or whatever and I can't really do that with anything that costs more than a couple hundred euros. Only my Casio or my Amphibia can get any scratches they want haha. Given the price of sapphire glass nowadays I don't really get Seiko's choice, although in this particular case the "retro" aspect makes this a little less jarring.
    By the way this is random but I really like this suede jacket of yours, if you stumble upon this comment I'd love to hear where you got it. Cheers and thanks for the as informative as ever content

      I have both a JDM(#555) that has a kanji day wheel, and an American ad purchased reference(#1417)with the Spanish English day wheel, but the made in Japan on the dial and caseback.
      Above a specific number, they are the K1 international version, which are not made in Japan, and as such do not have the made in Japan on the dial and caseback.

    you really need that vintage/nostalgie point for that watch.. otherwise, if you dont have that, you have a Watch with a really bad bracelet, basiclly no water proof, no saphireglas, the Bezel seems kind a loose (no clicking, which is basicly the hole point of a bezel^^) The Crown is really deep inside, but thats the same on the popular citizen tsuyosa, so i dont count that as a negative, and that for over 400 bucks.

    Nice watch but a lot of underwhelming specs one of these it is not a sapphire crystal for a limited edition, 4R35 is like the low end movement for modern seikos but still a smooth movement but not the best, the bezel is almost neat but what is that spiral down effect on the side of the bezels, the bracelet is pulling hairs not the best one to have. I love the design but for such a price its not for me Im willing to pay more for better specs imo.

    The bracelet has very little articulation and didn't fit me well at all. I now have it on a straight end link Oyster style bracelet and it wears so much better.

    Saw it in person and looks cheap/toyish. Maybe it's the matte finish and no polishing. 🤷‍♂️

      Goodness! State an opinion, and get roasted! Yeah, I know, that's how the internet works. But I'll share an observation to go with my "negative opinion that I should keep to myself": It's been my observation that the people who don't like 70's retro re-issues are also the people who lived through the 70's. It was NOT a time of great memories, or great design, in many of our opinions, and memories. (Which I will continue to feel free to share, like it or not. I could understand the attacks if this was a little micro-brand requiring support and protection...but this is SEIKO for heaven's sake! My opinion means nothing, except that it represents the view of at least a few consumers. I think you, and they, can handle it).
