55 years ago, in junior high school, I had a black-dialed Seiko 5 which was similar to the one in the video but without the rotating bezel. It was purchased in Vietnam by my father during the Vietnam War.
Just picked this beauty up at a small dealer. They received one from their supplier. Took a few dollars off MSRP so I grabbed it. Wears very nicely. I’m a sucker for the late 1960s to mid 1970s vibe and this watch checks those boxes, like it was sent here from the past. I put it next to a 35MM SLR I still have from 1975 and the similarity in build, the stainless steel on the black is so true to the period. I have not held a Seiko recently that has given me this level of satisfaction, probably since I picked up the Alpinist with the green sunburst. The watches have back stories and some historical significance. Glad I was able to add it to my collection.
Niice! Congrats on your purchase! I love the alpinist too but I'm not sold on the compass because I will NEVER be using it lol, maybe I'll get a baby alpinist later on (the no compass version)
I ordered mine as soon as I saw TH-cam channel MWC review it. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. An affordable copy of a 60s watch by the original manufacturer. The limited edition factor wasn't really of any interest to me. It's a fabulous thing in its own right, especially now that I have fitted a milanese strap. The original bracelet is very nice, but the mesh feels more period correct. This one's a keeper
@@NorthernWatchClub Pity we can't post photos. It looks great although the bracelet Seiko supply with this watch is surprisingly good and unique to this model ( I think ) Fingers crossed Seiko see sense and make a long overdue Pogue. As long as its a good copy, quartz is fine

an incredible watch, as a vintage watch restorer i (like you) knew this wouldn't last long and immediately pre-ordered one from an authorized dealer. while you are correct about my favorite strap, the silicone/plastic/rubber tropical quick release...it is a bit hard to push in so it hits the lug hole, i can guarantee you can do it if you place one side in, and then push the other side down to where it should sit...and then push it back towards the watch (squeezing the rubber) so that the pin fits in. i used a loupe to look and be sure it seated before letting go, and you will need to push/squeeze the rubber hard so it compacts it and allows the pin to move over the hole...but there's no danger of hurting or scratching anything, it's just rubber that's being compressed to allow the lug pin to move further back over the hole. i started out with a yellow tropical, but then decided on switching it to a red tropical. it looks fantastic! thanks for the review!
I think so yeah, I only wore the watch once on the stock bracelet and swapped it out, check my video here for strap options for this watch : th-cam.com/video/6HcZBVa51lk/w-d-xo.html

I picked up this one at Maison Monaco in Ottawa. The salesperson told me his shop had only gotten two of the watches when it was released - and one was immediately snapped up by a buyer in Montreal who shopped online. I admit the one thing I’m not thrilled about is the recessed crown; I wound up getting a blister trying to finger-wind, and have been doing the Seiko shuffle to power it up.

Maybe I bad luck but I had to send back two SRPK17 now due to the terrible quality control. I want to love this watch but feel let down by the build quality.
First had huge gaps in the links and some so tight they would not articulate. Second had a great bracelet but the bezel was loose on the case and rock’s back and fourth cause it to grind on the case. Third time lucky I’m hoping this is favorite watch so I want I good example.
Actually need to correct a mistake. This isn't the first time Seiko have used this case in recent years. The Seiko 5 SSA329K1 I own is, I believe, from about 2017. Identical, slightly bigger case, old Seiko 5 badge 4R38 open heart movement with 3 o'clock crown.
@@TerenceHughes4501 You were talking abouy the case. I was talking about the case. It is not the same case. You said it yourself, the Pogue case is bigger. It has lugs. This has no lugs.

Naah! There are plenty of vintage style watches out there Right now and the Seiko Five was always the lower end! I enjoy the recent Invicta vintage line releases! I like Detroit watches also!
Which invictas are you referring to? I'm interested, I only know their prodiver line
Oh,There's many more Quality , tastefully desighned Invictas Ranging from 36,40,42,45 millimeters and up! A line I like is their new vintage Archive line featuring styles from the original Invicta company! please check those out and post your impression of what you've found! Please be thorough and make sure you look at all the new lines and sizes besides the Prodiver that appeal to You? Thank You!
@@davidcrandall4958 some of those vintage ones looks pretty good actually!
Salut Montréal! If I subscribe to your channel, will you send me bagels? Naah, never mind. You had me with that silly little dance during your jingle. I love this watch, I need to call a local Seiko dealer in the morning..
Salut! Thanks for subscribing haha ya my AD is trying to get one too it seems that it's sold out pretty much everywhere but I'll post it on my IG if I get another one 👍
It does pinch arm hair, that's why i had to make it as tight as possible so it does not move much
Yeah I plan on doing a long term follow up to this video with bracelet alternatives, stay tuned !
Finally made a video of different strap options here: th-cam.com/video/6HcZBVa51lk/w-d-xo.html
hi, where did u get the dark brown strap?
On Amazon, enjoy!

Maybe I bad luck but I had to send back two SRPK17 now due to the terrible quality control.
I want to love this watch but feel let down by the build quality.
Really? What were the defects?
First had huge gaps in the links and some so tight they would not articulate. Second had a great bracelet but the bezel was loose on the case and rock’s back and fourth cause it to grind on the case.
Third time lucky I’m hoping this is favorite watch so I want I good example.
@@teapeabartle4046 ouch that's definitely not lucky 😬
how to shorten this strap which comes with it ?
You have to use a bracelet push pin tool, usually you can get a kit from Amazon with all the tools you need for like 20$ :)
Would be great to see a video of shortning it
@@jaimin4829 this guy made an excellent video about it th-cam.com/video/rzvn1hCG58g/w-d-xo.html
More scratches would only make the retro look shines after it was made to look old and worn even tho this is kinda like a revamp version
Indeed 😊
Actually need to correct a mistake. This isn't the first time Seiko have used this case in recent years. The Seiko 5 SSA329K1 I own is, I believe, from about 2017. Identical, slightly bigger case, old Seiko 5 badge 4R38 open heart movement with 3 o'clock crown.
Woww never knew that watch existed, looks amazing! Indeed the case is very similar but just smaller on this new watch.
So its not this case. It’s the Pogue case.
@@jonasthemovie
The Pogue was a chronograph. What I meant was the case is the same, not the same size.
@@TerenceHughes4501 You were talking abouy the case. I was talking about the case. It is not the same case. You said it yourself, the Pogue case is bigger. It has lugs. This has no lugs.
@@jonasthemovie
It's bigger but identical in shape. It a also has NO lugs
Unique attention grabber watch but not too weird looking. A must have.
Yes attention grabbing AND not weird looking is a fine line to walk on haha
Not a fan of the friction bezel because when it gets wet it tends to move everywhere, at least that is my experience
Ohh haven't gotten it wet yet but ya me neither not a fan but it's trying to be a recreation of the original that also had a friction bezel so I'll excuse it :)
How would it fit my 16cm wrist?
Should fit no problem! The lug to lug is very compact on this
Got mine today. Great looking watch but crap strap
Congrats on your purchase! A lot of my viewers say that the watch looks good and feels comfortable on a mesh/Milanese strap, I just ordered one myself to try it out as well 😁
What's your wrist size bro?
6.5 inch
Great review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching :)
This watch is soo cool i order it for tomorrow and i hew got 15% off 350€ from store
Nice ! congrats :)
@@NorthernWatchClubThanks and its much nicer in hand. I'm happy also I haw get 10% off so that is 40€ for the Milanes strap :))
@@k9teamzagrebskolazapse149 yeah def better on Milanese than oem bracelet
Second day and first you have a nice watch (of cors from women ) it's somthing olse. And on Christmas it is coming out, Brucee Lee edition, and I order mine from Seiko main distributor for Croatia price is litle biger but its Bruce Lee 510€ so whit so i will hawe 2 Seikos in cilection but bothe from special editions.
@@k9teamzagrebskolazapse149 nice! Check out my video on the Bruce Lee one that one is amazing too !
Hyped watch.
Looks are ok, quality is cheap.
I agree with the hype aspect, the bracelet can definitely be better
Is it really that great? It's pretty but it sounds like 80% of it is hype.
Most watches above a certain price is purely made out of hype 😂
It’s not a regatta timer. It’s a regatta timer look alike. A regatta timer has the internal blue and green chapter ring that rotates as well as a rotating bezel.
So mine will stop even though it's on my wrist and moving...anybody else having this problem?
like even after you shake it? probably a defect then you can exchange it or have it repaired by Seiko
Where?
Canada Montreal 👍
I get it. It’s the one that started it off. To each their own but personally I think that watch is hideous 😂.
🤣🤣🤣
Got mine with arabic-english date window im from dubai perfect size j sau
Niice congrats
Very nice. But not that limited… 15555 pieces. It’s probably as common as a… Rolex Submariner. Lol. But really nice Seiko.
It's probably less common than submariners haha
I think it's good that it's 15555 units because their 2000-4000 units limited editions tends to be over 1k to 2k $
The Japan variant was limited to 1000 pieces.
Very rare indeed!
I tried on my Johnson as it is a normal thing to do! I can confirm it will not like hairy Johnson. 😂
😂😂😂
👍🏻
I am not really sure why I should even get excited by this watch ? It seems other people are, but it's rather unexceptional in my view.
Bought one and sold immediately, the bezel rotation resistance is non existent, literally rotates by itself during normal wear.
I think the hype is from the vintage re-issue limited edition aspect, if you find it unexceptional then more money in your pocket haha
Sick of Seiko's annoying amount of FOMO 😒
Seems like the only thing they are able to play on lately
Their regular Seiko 5 line ain't too bad either, Prospex if you want more sporty and presage if you want fancy and Grand Seiko for the fanciest.
@NorthernWatchClub its not the lines in themselves, its the "limited" editions, that when sell well aren't even limited anymore, and in other cases like some of the night vision ones I found new 50% off a year later.
To be fair this watch looks really good in the metal but in pictures it won’t keep you awake all night.
In metal?
Just a saying instead of saying looking good in the flesh.🙂
@@williamchan8866 ahhh ok haha yea looks way better in person
Do Asians not have arm hair? I was not aware of this!
Some do but most don't haha
i prefer this old Seiko5 logo….. the newer ones is just mehh…
Ya I call the new ones the Superman logo haha
Seiko should have lunmed the whole chapter ring.
Ya would have been really nice!
Looks great in photos and videos, but saw it in the flesh and it looks cheap/tacky as hell.
Too bad, this is definitely a you love it or hate it type of watch
Love the watch but the bracelet is terrible functionally.
Yeah a lot of commenters wrote that a mesh strap fits this watch great, I ordered one to test it out, stay tuned!
Meh, for the same money I’d rather get a king samurai
King Samurai is like double the price of this no?
Why???
Why?
@@NorthernWatchClub 😳😇
making it limited is just annoying
:( hopefully they release more watches using this case
There are 15,000- you’ll be fine if you want one
English and Spanish not French…similar Latin both.
Oh trust me it's French lol
Spanish = lun mar mie jue vie sab dom
French = lun mar mer jeu ven sam dim
Very similar but different !
There selling out like hot cakes
Yeah haha I'm glad I was able to get one
aand its out of stock...
:(
Check out stores that don't have a ecommerce website, that's how I got mine
Please, stop shaking that watch under the camera, I've gone epileptic
Yeah I'll try to hold it more still in the future sorry
This was my most disappointing watch ever. Just felt so cheap on the wrist. Size was too small for me, but admittedly if they made it larger, it wouldn't be true to the original. Sold within 2 weeks
I feel like we’re just throwing “cheap” around here
@@superjjfire23 no throwing around. Watch feels cheap. Strap feels rigid and almost plasticy. When resizing bracelet, the holes didn't match up. Hairs pulled out when wearing. My £50 Casios have better quality.
Too small for me.
Yah the lug to lug is minuscule on this one if you have a big wrist it might look small
@@NorthernWatchClub Agreed. I try to stay above 40 regardless. A 7.5 inch wrist is not a good thing to have when all the cool looking watches are getting smaller. 43-45 is my sweet spot.
@@Tom_H327 haha and here I am wishing my wrist was bigger so I can pull off bigger watches XD
The band looks cheap. Limited edition is a tired old come on by now.
Yea the bracelet is not good lol I'll
Be releasing a video soon about different bracelet options
@@NorthernWatchClub the bracelet is just oldschool and different to the others. Yeah its a little bit Stiff and only 2 fine adjustments, but its different like the other
@@NorthernWatchClub i mean the hole point of this watch is the old bracelet from back in the day. It was suposed to be a bracelet where you can put on and off the watch fast ^^ Did you made the video?
@@bavarianwolf3806 here it is :) th-cam.com/video/3lHqP_SNgFk/w-d-xo.html
This is quite likely the most overpriced piece of shit in timekeeping history 😅
What about Swiss luxury watches lol
I have many Seiko watches but no way would I want this watch. It's ugly and resembles a cheap bit of Chinese crap.
Sometimes old looks good but sometimes as in the case of this watch it should have been left in the past.
It's one of those that you either love or loathe yeah
It's ugly. It should have stayed in the 60's. Sometimes the past is best left behind.
:(
That is one ugly looking watch. I hope it makes better as an investment in something bizarre.
This watch is ridiculous 🤦
😆
Waste of money. You can get a better watch in that price range.
Which watch do you have in mind?
The bracelet sucks. Switched on the first day. Otherwise great watch.
Nice! What bracelet did you switch it with? I'm looking for a replacement bracelet too
With a Milanese strap I had laying around.
