I'm in love with the 4k raw from this camera. I've been heavily testing. The compression artefacts only happen when shooting below 800iso - so only go below 800iso when you are sure you are not going to pull up the blacks more than 0.5 Stops. Other wise the colours, dynamic range and detail are just fantastic. Rolling shutter can be very well corrected with premiere very well.
1:52 to 1:56 and 4:47 to 4:54 are shots I still think about constantly. Even years after I first saw this video. Medium format wide angle feels like filming through my eyes.
That poor girl!! You made her sit there and literally go ¨Blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah...¨ for how long? Hahahahaha.
Thanks for this awesome review. I can only say the the "look" of shooting video with this camera is simple insane. My favorite shot inside the house at 5:07 is absolutely revealing.. the wide open perspective without the look of using a super wide-angle lens is just stunning. Impossible to get anything like that on any find of a smaller sensor, just impossible. Of course as for the workflow only shooting RAW and then first converted to CinemaDNG, its workflow impossibility. The video shooting capabilities were thrown as this camera "just to have" not ever thought thru. Its a shame. And imagine if you could actually shoot video using the full sensor irresolution instead of "just " 4K.. an IMAX in your hands. Stunning thought..
Just a technical point: longer focal lengths do not exhibit 'compression'. The only way to compress the foreground and the background is to stand further away from the subject. The images are lovely, BTW. If this costs the same to rent as a 2K camera, I think the choice would be obvious, unless you really wanted a higher frame rate.
Longer focal lengths compress the background if the subject takes up the same amount of space in the image. That is normally what is meant by "compression."
@@mugdays If holding the format size constant, yes. If you're changing the format size, no. The perspective compression comes from subject-to-camera distance, not from focal length per se, so two cameras with the same field of view and framed the same will have the same compression regardless of the actual focal lengths of the lenses. The most obvious proof of this is cellphones. Since they have itty bitty tiny sensors, they have itty bitty focal length lenses to match. For example, the iPhone XS's lens has an actual focal length of 4.25mm but a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 26mm. If perspective were based on focal length alone, the normal wide-angle lens on the iPhone would have *absurdly* stretched out impossible ultrawide perspective. It doesn't. It just has the slightly stretched-out wide angle perspective that you'd get from a 26mm lens on a full frame camera.
one more correction, the lens conversion at the end!- 80mm on the hasselblad= 50mm on 35 mm format, so 100mm (H) is equivalent to approx 65/70mm on 35mm formats; eg, the standard 35 mm format macro option of 60mm it's H equivalent is 120mm f4 macro lens, or the 100 mm f2.2; for comparison the Phase One also has one, but a 120/150mm focal length. however the true conversions are more like 75 mm for std 50 (35equivalent), as the 6x4.5 Cm size has a 75 mm as std.; the Hasselblad V series is 6x6cm negative size, and THIS is 80mm std. focal length (50 mm {35mm format equivalent}).
I would shoot a film on this any day. Simply beautiful images. Better skin-tones than Red. If you're shooting narrative all you need is 24 frames. I'll definitely rent this out for my next feature.
definitely better skin tones than Red SOOC, Red still hasn't nailed down the colour science, but Red still wipes the floor with this h6d in every other category. If you don't mind the extra effort, you can even get desirable skin tone from a Red. I prefer canon skin tones, but i made it work with my nikon because it was better in every other aspect
I just sold my Red, I've spent a lot of time working with it and these colors are much more natural. I love shooting with Red don't get me wrong, I just think this would be an excellent camera to shoot a narrative film with.
if it feels right (and if the raw files are good), i say go for it, they are just tools after all. though, it seems to me like the hassy's workflow might be problematic, with the complex file format and compression, they could have just gone with cinema dng like magic lantern.
people, this is not a cinema camera, this is a very high end still camera with a minor video function. This camera is aimed at pros like Annie Leibovitz, Patrick Demarchelier and Steven Klein. These types of photographers get their money back just working half a day. You would never expect a professional race car driver to race in the Grand Prix in a Toyota Corolla? If you are complaining about the price then this camera is not meant for you. I am sure if Hasselbland wanted to make a dedicated cinema digital camera they would. If you are a pro film maker this is not the camera for you. So please stop the negative comments.
How is the f4 producing more bokeh than the f1.4. and which footage is a better footage? The REd camera has a little bit of oversharpening going on which looks good if we're looking details at a glance. But is that necessarily a good thing for overall filming? And We can notice the difference in colors and exposure with the Red camera capturing more saturated colors that's a bit brighter, easy and appealing on our eyes while the H6D captures a more subtle image with less colors and less exposure. Both are great footages but when compared we can see this huge differences. Which do you think is a better fooatge and more professional one especially for film making?
2:14 very interesting that the RED can have less bokeh while having 4 or more F-Stops (backward *0.707 , foward * 1.41) of light that means the red can make a higher shutter speed for the same bokeh or it just can have the bokeh the RED wants, and have a better shutter speed, and can fix the motion blur if the RED cameras users want to
A couple of corrections, your sample image of how the sensor changes the field of view is wrong, a smaller sensor won't zoom like you showed in the images. When you showed the images from bigger sensor, you also zoomed out of the image, which doesn't happen with a larger sensor. If I print out a picture and start cutting it, like when cropping with a smaller sensor, I haven't zoomed in more. Second, sensor size doesn't change depth of field. What changed your depth of field is the fact that you move to get the same framing.
When in "4K Raw", what output is available at the HDMI port? If it's 4K, hooked up to a ProRes based recorder, the Hassie could compete with Digital Cinema Cameras. Love to see some Anamorphic footage from it too.
I am really impressed at how good it looks for outdoor scenes though. Also, really impressed with the line. You were pointing it right at the sun most of the time, but there wasn't much loss of contrast at all! Of course flaring would be a serious problem on such a wide lens, but at least it's minimal.
What about an external recorder? I mean if you have 30K to spend on a camera you may have additional 1-2k for an external recorder. Does it work, are you getting better results? Is the video cropped compared to the stills the camera takes?
since i fell in love with photography in highschool ive wanted a hasselblad, first the older film camera, then the newer film. if i could ever afford it id buy one. i love larger format photography.
the sensor can capture 15 stops of dynamic range The Red camera, even shooting their HDRx mode will capture only up to 6 stops the camera is for photography, not videography.
Other reason for medium format is better iso performance, more dynamic range and 16bit color. Now shooting in raw this gives you a hell alot of leverage for editing in post
I shot weddings with 500CM/A24/80mm because of the glass and the "system". It was the first camera on the moon. But recently, DJI (a drone company) bought controlling interest Hasselblad. It made me go....HMMM! So I just bought a Fuji GFX system. Oh well!
Interesting video. But this artefacts are annoying! Did looked at the raw artefacts in Adobe Camera ARW or some other raw software than Resolve to compare if it might be a problem with that specific format and Resolve?
I finally purchased the Hasselblad H6d with the 35mm lens. The sd card and the 1 Tb card was very expensive. This was a drudgery task of five days trying to understand this master of a camera.therefore, I’m trying to reach a final a conclusive product.

Checks price wakes up in E.R.
Cheaper than a RED Weapon though
Peres Dixon haha!
Checks price.......then checks price of a new Chevy Volt.....says, "I'm good with my Nikon" and drives away in his electric car
What did you expect? The ARRI Alexa 65 costs more than 150K
FujiFilm GFX100 just got confirmed. 100mp Medium format 4k 10bit 30p 4:2:2 for $10,000~ :)
cute a 32gb cfast card for 4k raw 😂😂😂 have fun editing 13 seconds of video 😂
that's exactly what I thought.
Simon Hansmann 😂😂
Yes 😁
More like 5 seconds ...😂😂
Hahahah
That medium format look is so damn good. I wish they made a dedicated video camera with a sensor this size. And yes, brilliant video mate.
1:52 to 1:56 and 4:47 to 4:54 are shots I still think about constantly. Even years after I first saw this video. Medium format wide angle feels like filming through my eyes.
4k raw shooting and doesn't upload in 4k....what gives?
Kyle Medina it's not about 4k, it's about medium format, that's what makes the image that impressive.
Also downscaling 4k gives you better 1080, than native 1080
image compression.. so 4k will be compressed in 1080p for more sharpness in the video.. so the video looks like better in 1080p
it's all about BITRATE, 1080p on youtube is trash no matter what camera it was filmed on
When you downscale from 4K to FHD with a good algorithm, you get about half the noise compared to native FHD!
Thanks for creating this video - clear, concise and direct.
Had a chance to shoot with the Phase One XF and loved it. Files were incredible.
That poor girl!! You made her sit there and literally go ¨Blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah...¨ for how long? Hahahahaha.
lol just a normal day
hahahahahahaha
Yes, it was SO obvious.
Adam Walton nice interview it was hahaha
Not that long. The 4k raw video filled that 32 GB cfast card QUICK
Your review videos are basically art.
seriously agree with that!
That beautiful look right after 5:06 on the table is just stunning...

Very well done Christoph. I love your transitions.
I just findout that this camera was able to record Raw video. Loved the quick and straight to the points video.
Its the kind of Review quality you would expect from Audi Le mans video... god what a talent... great shots man!
Thank you!
what an awesome, informative and packed amount of knowledge in such a short review 👍🏼

Yep, you are right. Found this out after making the video. Too bad :-(
Good thing someone else noticed the mistake

I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE..THIS CAMERA IS GODLY
Bsr
sell your soal to the devil, make a deal

cant wait to have this camera technology in my smartphone in future.

I would rather rent out a sony venice or alexa lf, granted maybe those where not out when you made your comment
Personally I thought the Hass had too much magenta in thr skin tone. I actually feel the Red had more natural looking skin tone.
Around 42.000 AUS dollar this camera and we still have problems ... Nice work thank you

Nice Video, this deserves so much more Attention!
2:08 girl was saying Papapapapapapapapapapapapapapapapapapa
You are highly appreciated for this deep details of camera .
This is the greatest camera review I've ever watched. Thank you Mr. Tilley
I bought one of these for my cat. He loves it .

2:15: she's got a point actually

Nice Review, Will the Hasselblad auto focus on video? and is single auto focus works fine like dslr?
Awesome video. Thanks for making this ! 👍🏾
1:11 32gb ?? what are you taking 2 photos?
Thankyou! This was lovely the look is awesome!
Ummm did you guys know what the name of the song at 1:18?
"You can choose ISO and colour temperature." Jesus, I should hope so for that price lol
When in "4K Raw", what output is available at the HDMI port?
If it's 4K, hooked up to a ProRes based recorder, the Hassie could compete with Digital Cinema Cameras.
Love to see some Anamorphic footage from it too.
This looks amazing. Question though - The specs on B&H say it shoots at 30fps - is it that or 24 as you say? That would change a lot!
I am really impressed at how good it looks for outdoor scenes though. Also, really impressed with the line. You were pointing it right at the sun most of the time, but there wasn't much loss of contrast at all! Of course flaring would be a serious problem on such a wide lens, but at least it's minimal.
he is talking about 4k raw video and i m watching it on 360p....
Cool. Will be shooting my next vlog with this one
What about accessories ? Can you mount an extra microphone or monitor ?
How about shooting with medium format lens and speedbooster on fullframe?
Good work Christoph!
What about an external recorder? I mean if you have 30K to spend on a camera you may have additional 1-2k for an external recorder. Does it work, are you getting better results? Is the video cropped compared to the stills the camera takes?
This video was amazing! A ton of information, told entertainingly, at a fast pace, with incredible editing!
I immediately subscribed :)
Expanding the field of view effects the lens focal length?
And thankx for explaining - all the way from country side of INDIA
Very interesting. I wonder how the footage would look if vintage medium-format, film era lenses such as Pentax 67 were used.
II would have be nice if you could put in the price and the weight of this camera.
since i fell in love with photography in highschool ive wanted a hasselblad, first the older film camera, then the newer film. if i could ever afford it id buy one. i love larger format photography.
Is there a speedbooster for my canon 50mm f/1,8 lens ??
Which gimbal did you use?
Hmm, you dont seem to understand focal lengths and sensor sizes at all... its weird how magical it is for some people.
1:07
He forgot to say "and also 33 THOUSAND DOLLERS"
I prefer the HB X1D, it's more maneuverable. Or instead the Nikon D850 or D5.
What about sport photos?
Hasselblad looks nice :)
Interesting video, just wish you had uploaded the video in 4k so we could really see the detail from the camera.
I highly agree with your verdict.
Its pretty cool, I think the next gen would be a lot better.
Does shooting in 1080p or 4k involves sensor crop ?
What's a full-frame medium format camera? You mean to say the video is coming off the full frame width of the sensor?
That's what he meant. Poorly worded.
1:53 how are you looking into the sun and getting so much detail?
the sensor can capture 15 stops of dynamic range
The Red camera, even shooting their HDRx mode will capture only up to 6 stops
the camera is for photography, not videography.
Great video! BTW, 3:19 it's so weird to watch people shooting with a standalone Hasselblad without any the lighting and assistance, haha
what camera did you shoot for the BTS video? it looks so much better than Hasselblad
Is there anywhere that I can find a version of this video with the narration but without the music?
Is it great just for photography?
Thanks for sharing and I have subscribed.
The video quality of the RED camera at 2:15 is better than the Hasselblad.
Other reason for medium format is better iso performance, more dynamic range and 16bit color. Now shooting in raw this gives you a hell alot of leverage for editing in post
Excellent camera in the Market. Always front of the line. I love all the series since 1948.
Cristoph, can I ask for a single raw frame file of that video where you can see glitches? Thank you very much!
AMAZING video.. thank you for this.
Actually, the Arri Alexa 65 sensor is 0.7mm wider than the hasselblad's.
very nice review thank you!
I shot weddings with 500CM/A24/80mm because of the glass and the "system". It was the first camera on the moon. But recently, DJI (a drone company) bought controlling interest Hasselblad. It made me go....HMMM! So I just bought a Fuji GFX system. Oh well!

Did looked at the raw artefacts in Adobe Camera ARW or some other raw software than Resolve to compare if it might be a problem with that specific format and Resolve?
Raw video on a medium format photo camera? Vat? Sounds crazy!
But look at that medium format look! Damn! Ok I really want one now.
I finally purchased the Hasselblad H6d with the 35mm lens. The sd card and the 1 Tb card was very expensive. This was a drudgery task of five days trying to understand this master of a camera.therefore, I’m trying to reach a final a conclusive product.
Whats the verdict?
Song ?
Interesting, thanks for the video.
ma è stabilizzata ? che quando cammini non traballa ?
fantastic review and camera.
4:38 to see the distortion effect of lenes of various focal length on the face
This is god of camera maybe in future company will make video camera with that type sensor
Thank you for the honesty
Hassel Blad H6D-100c 0:47 , 0:56 , 4:33
👍👍👍Beautiful effects and thoughtful coloring and grading. i would like to learn and try to do some great ideas, awesome
What a strange and fascinating camera! Love your sense of humour.
him - hasselblad records 4k raw video
sony nowadays - *that's cute*
With 200+ MB RAW files.. how many seconds does it take to use up that 32 GB Memory Card in burst mode?
What music is that at the beginning and end?
Birocratic - Bob Ross Goes to Hollywood
Can anyone please name the songs used? one hell of an artistic video.
Kshitij Gotiwale song name plz
Birocratic - Bob Ross Goes to Hollywood
Don't say negative thing about hasselblad , they always produce better picture
I wonder what will happen if I put my 12mm lumix Micro Four Thirds lens on this thing.
I really want to try it
Not practical but the look is amazing especially on a wider lens.
Would be fun of they made a video focused full size cinema camera
