Hasselblad is for someone like me. I bought RED Monstro 8K mainly for Hobby because i like the video it does. I dont care that DSLR would be better for travel and its lighter. I wanted the experience of RED. And you need to want Hassel feel otherwise you wont enjoy working with it
That is a camera for Studio model and product shots in a pretty fixed setup, and with a workflow where you select (and initial edit) the shots with the camera hooked up to a computer, so you know you got the shot and are only dealing with a dozen or so selected files that just need the final cropping and color correction. For that workflow $9000 is not so much as the shoot by a pro photographer is probably half that.
100%, a Hasselblad is what you want for product shots for a new line from Rolex which needs to be printed on the side of a billboard at a ski resort. The autofocus doesn't need to be fast, because you'd be spending a good amount of time dialling it in perfectly on manual. A raw performance camera without any fluff. I'm surprised they didn't talk about phocus at all
Unless you are working on high end studio work (like Vogue), or making big gallery-level prints, I guess fullframe or smaller (APSC, M43) is more then enough. Doing an e-comm style shoot without tethering is so painful. I understand that Hasselblad doesn't work with Capture One (at least right now), but your photo team could be shooting into organized folders instead of trying to sort everything afterwards. This is why I highly recommend the Fuji GFX100 as the best studio camera on the market atm - especially if you are doing any focus-stacking. This is coming from a 12+ year digital tech in NYC that's worked with almost every camera system.
Phocus works just fine for tethering the Hasselblad's. You can even use an iPad soon. C1 isn't going to open up to their major competitor for the last 30 years until they really have to. HB is the only company other than Phase/C1 to make a larger than 44x33mm system.
@@gordoncahill1170 Sorry but Phocus is horrible software. Most people end up tethering in Phocus only to then do color work in Lightroom instead of doing it all in one (better) software package (C1). Since DJI has purchased Hasselblad I feel like they are attempting to make their systems more mainstream, so there is a chance they will work out a deal with Phase. Even back when more people shot on Hasselblad professionally, they often used PhaseOne backs simply because working with Phocus is such a poor experience.
@@GiBB3D I hear you but I have noticed massive improvement in the new phocus release for tethering and basic conversion to get hncs before needing anything that requires layer compositing with other elements etc. I was happy with my gfx as well but really love the basic colour accuracy of h and x series.

The x2d rear screen rotates enough to act as a waist level finder for control operation which is about the same level of functionality as my gfx.

I gotta say, if those qualities in a camera and experience of taking photographs that Marques described appeal to you, but you don't have Hasselblad money, consider buying a second-hand Nikon or Canon (or Sony or Olympus...) DSLR for a couple hundred dollars. If you look at above entry-level DSLRs from the early 2010s, for example, they're generally really well built and enjoyable to handle and shoot with and many of the things Marques said about the Hasselblad are true for these much much less expensive DSLRs as well. Like the "thunk" of the shutter when you take a picture that Marques described, that feeling is what hooked me in to photography over a decade ago, and I got that feeling using a Canon DSLR that you could probably buy used for $50 somewhere nowadays. You don't need a Hasselblad for that.
great . need some more camera reviews ( which are more like feedback on the user experience and less of spec sheet reading ) . also please include more shots taken on the camera . David's video previously on the leica was fantastic
Ive shot on panasonic and canon and just recently purchased an x2d and I totally understand what he talks about how its a different experience than shooting with an r6 (my previous camera). I really love it, but is it better than others from sony or canon? Probably not but its a very different experience
Wow, that was interesting to watch. Some questions: They advertise it having phase detection AF and it had problems focusing on the hat? The Canon colours are better? What about HNCS and 16 bit colour depth? Did you use Phocus or something else?
Compared to the Sony a1 which is in the same price range, how does it fare against the mountain load of extra features that the a1 provides? And is the tradeoff for 100 MP and impeccable build quality worth it?
It’s not always about the MPix. Main advantage on this would be keeping the pixel size ish the same as the a1, AMAZING (I tested them) lenses, they are Fuji MF glass and the most important feature is 1/2000th flash sync speed, which pretty much only hasselblad and phase one offers. But the a1 and the X2D are for VERY different types of person. Concerning the price range, lens prices are so much higher on the blad. You would pay between 4000€ and 5000€ per lenses. Edit: I held it 3 weeks ago and the build quality is just insane. My a7r4 (still bloody expensive) feels like a toy compared to it. Biggest problem with this camera is the meh viewfinder and meh software
Depends on whats important to you and your clients plus your return/costs from your shoots or if you are just well healed and have specific weapons for a purpose.
@@tdg9281 surprised that you feel like your Sony alpha feels like a toy compared to it. Sony alphas are also machined out of metal. I suppose it’s just down to weight.
@@definingslawek4731 yeah true, the construction feels sturdy, there is just something else about the blad, maybe it’s the metal buttons and doors vs plastic and same for the lenses, metal lenses just feel more sturdy.
Hi Marques, I was wondering if this ‘RED’ branded t-shirt you’re wearing is on sale, so I checked the website, but couldn’t find it there. Could you please confirm if it’s on sale? And how to get it. Thanks.
Talking about lack of video on a Hasselblad is...puzzling. Hasselblad has always been a stills company...and not all of us shoot video on every camera. ;-) I think MKBHD actually gets it, once he looked at it for what it is. You also, frankly, don't want video on a medium or large format sensor designed for stills. You'll run into a lot of noise limitations on ISO for video and the downscaling usually isn't great. You'll get more detail. sure, but the tradeoff isn't worth it.
Not true in the slightest, Hasselblad has always worked closely with cinema as well as their flagship from a few years ago H6D-100c shot 4k RAW Open gate Medium Format video and that had an even bigger sensor than this camera (53.4x40, vs 44x33)
most photographers buy hasselblads because of their tethering capabilities/leaf shutter system. Not this body, though. Working wish flashs on a leaf shutter system is dramatically better, the camera pays for itself very quickly considering how much money per hour a photo studio with models and make up artists run at. Phase one and Hasselbald are for real deal studio photographers and no one else
Yeah, it’s surely an investment, but even if I was making the bank with my photography, I don’t see myself spending 60k+ on an XT kit with a couple of lenses. In reality you won’t even pay half of that but still. It becomes hard to justify needing that many MP and I’m not even sure a lot clients want some 400MB TIFF or 20MB jpegs
@@tdg9281 Clients never see those files, they just sit on a big screen somewhere in the studio and check to see if they like whats happening. From there every file should always be delivered on the specific size It'll be used. Plus, when the model, stylist and makeup costs like 5-25k a shoot, equipment is not at all expensive. You buy like one hasselblad every 5-10 years. Also, a single Profoto flash can set you back 3 grand, and that's not even with modifiers, heavy duty tripods etc. A Small but reasonably equiped photo studio costs easily 100k+
You trained your eyes to think Canon colors look better... Hasselblad has the best natural colors in the industry. Your eyes are trained to edited colors.
I’ve only recently gone digital and would hike miles with a medium or large view camera to take 3-4 photos with film, using a light meter, etc hours and hours for a handful of pics so the complaint of slow photo capture is less of a deal for me. My gal will whip through 1k photos with my Z9 and pick the ones she likes. I’ll take 10 and be happy with 3-5. By happy I mean something I’ll print and hang on wall

You can’t open Blad files with Capture One without an exif hack
Think of it more like a classical guitar vs an electric guitar. Both guitars but the intent is different.
Marques' presentation in this video is more in tune with what the camera delivers to the users. This is a very well presented video.
How good is it for wildlife photography?
“I would like to sit on it, sleep on it” Marques, 2022 💀
Loving Marques' Red long sleeve shirt. Any link to cop a pair as well?
i donno if it's only me but this channel in kinda wholesome 🙈
On your note books is it blank pages or line pages you need to put a photo on that on your page
Still loving my X1D ii ….. image quality is amazing!
most photographers buy hasselblads because of their tethering capabilities/leaf shutter system.
Can it do video if you use a external recorder?
Would it make a good cinema camera?
😂😂 another great studio vid
I wish you did camera reviews on the main channel! It’s still tech!
Love these Studio videos! SN: Should definitely use Photo Mechanic for searching through those photos. It would save so much time.
Is it possible to get some of these shots on a link just to pixel peek.
Did you guys edit in LR or Phocus?
You trained your eyes to think Canon colors look better... Hasselblad has the best natural colors in the industry. Your eyes are trained to edited colors.
I’ve only recently gone digital and would hike miles with a medium or large view camera to take 3-4 photos with film, using a light meter, etc hours and hours for a handful of pics so the complaint of slow photo capture is less of a deal for me. My gal will whip through 1k photos with my Z9 and pick the ones she likes. I’ll take 10 and be happy with 3-5. By happy I mean something I’ll print and hang on wall
I've been trying to get one even if you have the money, you can't get one because they're not available at any retail store at the moment. Sad...
Would be fun to see a video of the Fujifilm X-T5!
I died when he said “the year 2022 of our lord” 😂
