One correction! I said "SD card slot" when it is actually a CF Express card slot.
A 13k CF card slot.
Unforgivable 🥸
Hasselblad's decision to make this both comparable and compatible with their old film cameras is brilliant, especially in light of the film camera resurgence we have been seeing.
I wish they would bring back the SLR V system - compatible with digital backs and older film backs. Brand new camera bodies from Hasselblad would really be something.
If you attach it to a (for example) 500cm you can still get the awesome mirror slap and barn door sound. Best of both worlds...
when you attach it to a 500cm you’re supposed to use the mirror lock up. Or else how would you expect it to use any shutter speed faster than 500th of a second. Exactly. You wouldn’t be able to the fastest that shutter slaps is at 500th.
@@eatenbyopium but you still use the mirror, even if u lock it up to take the shot.
@@ChadCarney-hu3du Not true. The mechanical parts of the camera stay locked in Bulb mode when the digital back is attached. That back is essentially a mirrorless camera. No mirrors are being used.
@@eatenbyopium Older digital backs from Hass could easily be sync with one (disgracious) cable and can use the mirror, it is indeed limited in speed but that's it, i'm pretty sure they didnt go back on that function and you can still use it with the mirror under 1/500s and use the mirror in any faster speed, just locking it before the shot.
I dont get why you would spread misinformation about it.
@@ChadCarney-hu3du you'd viewfind with the screen on the digital back
“Is it really that simple?” - and just like that, a new digital photography TH-cam channel is born 😂
Und bringt noch Geld dazu ein.
I prefer the Subaru
Good choice 😂
Does it come with autofocus ?
@@007prince777FSD
@@007prince777 Who needs autofocus when you can focus on the auto(mobile)?
My man just throws a $13k camera into a Jacket Pocket like it is a Pack of Smokes , and says it is a Bonus Feature 😂
What an absolute beast of a camera, and I really like the huge design elements on the screen. Some really wonderful shots in there too!
The freeway collection is awesome. What a perfect application for this camera
Love this round of images for this project. Beautiful!
Love this series of freeway shots, love the camera and its design.
I really love your videos! I have been watching your vids for a few years now and is always so motivational to see whatever you show and your process (:
These are such incredible shots for what is ostensibly a gear review. So glad you took the plunge to test gear in an actual project not dry test settings. Great vid!
I like cameras that I can afford to replace if I drop them. I’d be terrified to use something that expensive, even as a loaner.
You’re not a loner we’re all there for you
Yeah I feel like it would take away from the whole experience, being paranoid all the time about even the smallest damage.
I guess these are more so used in a commercial setting, right? But without a good insurance I wouldn't leave the house with it haha
That looks like a very good user interface, I hope more cameras adopt the visible timer for long exposures. Also a plus that you can attach it to other Hasselblad bodies!
The whole UI is simple, intuitive and confortable, the best to date of all cameras, similar to H6, X1D, X1DII, X2D, CFVII50c
loving all of these images!! what a sick camera and video brotherr
Love your content and thank you for the review and just you going out and shooting with this camera. Very cool.
Your understanding of light and balanced complexity is really hitting another level in this freeway series.
Oh and great shots! Very fun to see your photos and how you take them.
freeway series is coming along really nicely...subie's looking dope too!
I’m watching this on a 55inch tv screen and it’s actually insane the amount of detail in these photos!
the photo of Won's market we absolutely love!
I really dig this morning freeway project.
This is freaking awesome. Kudos to Hasselblad for finding an amazing way to keep film camera bodies alive too
very cool what hasselblad is doing lately. I would love to put it on an old hasselblad, what a way to shoot. extra crazy would be a serious 6x6 "fullframe" sensor 🤯
So much detail and data! Great images.
The shot of the paramount pest control building reminded me of Gregory Crewdson’s work in Beneath The Roses! The concept of this project is really cool and the images are we cooler!
My fav photo of this video
The Volvo V70 T6 is such an underrated car. Great video and cheers to you for some early morning stuff bud!
Don’t let the car distract you from the fact that you’re a better photographer.
The car in video isn’t a t6. It’s a v70r
Hasselblad and Volvo. You're really hitting all the brands of my hometown, Gothenburg. When I was a kid, Hasselblad had manufacturing right in downtown Göteborg. Still have my 500C/M and planning on getting either this or the older 50MP back for it.
so good to have you back
I’m glad someone gifted you an ember mug. My absolute favorite life purchase 😂
What a wonderful highway project.!! Wonderful camera too..!!!
Looks like a fun camera to shoot with! I’ve never thought about going up that parking structure. I pass it all the time! Pretty dope view!
Insanely nice shot Vlad!
Congratulations for your new hasselblad it's so cool 👍👍😎
damn... those details !!!!! amazing camera and lens
Well, I just add this on my list of things to get when I win the lotto. That is a real nice camera!!
I think you just introduced me to my dream camera
Lovely video as usual, Willem. With a videos on Hasselblad and Fuji medium format cameras, you’re only missing one 🤔. I’d love to lend my IQ4 150 and Alpa to you to play around with someday! I’d like to see how you like dual exposure plus and frame averaging functions on the IQ4. Along with shifting on the Alpa
This has to be the most exciting digital camera since the Fujifilm X100. As you mentioned it shines in middle of so many uninspiring digital cameras. Despite the costs of film I still don't feel too tempted to get a full frame digital camera for my lenses, because I enjoy my film cameras for those lenses. It goes, for now, way beyond my means but I am very excited to see what talented photographers as yourself do with this camera that isn't a normal camera with some nostalgic clothes, but it feels like another experience.
love your work!
Kinda off topic, but I always love seeing the spots you shoot at because I know exactly where they all are being an LA Native in Eagle Rock😄 LA is so photogenic!
Wow, love the design.
Big fan here! Waiting for the wheelemverb merch to drop
the way it reproduces colors, just wow
Hey Willem, good to see a new video!
honestly bro, ik you perfer film and the whole analog experience but truly i think your a great photographer as when you do decide to shoot digital either the fuji or this hass the images always come out great and just seeing how you tackle different types of photography is great.
these fotos are fantastic . you are a fineartist. bravo
I think I want that camera. You sold me. Well done sir
Love ya man!! Keep creating magic
These photographs are incredible! It would be awesome to see more camera manufacturers would take on the same kind of mentality when designing their cameras but perhaps at a more affordable price point
Can't go wrong with something like the Fuji gfx50's
I think some of these digital camera companies are having a dilemma where influential kids are going all film and taking pictures with discontinued cameras that these companies can’t profit from. I think there will be an effort to redirect people away from film much like this video right here. I’m not accusing willem of anything I’m sure he is t aware of this but it’s clearly going to be a thing. These corporations don’t want you to know that you don’t need their cameras. Hasselblad is owned by dji who is owned by the Chinese government and leica is owned by black rock btw.
Fantastic video and review. Terrific images!!
YES! More Volvos please. More cars in general haha. You have such great tastes in cars man. Awesome video like always. Cheers brother!
Great review, but you got a new subscriber when you started that beautiful V70R. 😍 need more photos and videos of it.
Really interesting work, i think the medium was really successful for this project
As a former film photographer, I used the “poor man’s hasselblad” Kowas. Digital is so rewarding and you know instantly if you get the shot. 100 mpixels is so dream come true.
I hate that I can’t afford it.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Aren’t you the lucky one?
I was watching another video on this when you uploaded, haha, you used it much better than the other guy
That Checkpoint sticker on the wrx 👌
6:00, dayum, the city in the background is like something out of 90's anime)
Great Video and Photography!
I'm getting some serious John Humble vibes from this series, and that's a damn good thing!
Man, he is such an inspiration.
I was like. Isn't this the Volvo guy! Well dah. 😅
looking forward to freeway project.
dude, that shot at 10:10 is absolutely ridiculous
yeah insane
why? asking as a curious amateur
@@seanlewis8423 the composition and colors! all the roads in the foreground at the bottom of the frame, all different shapes, going different ways, but all layered on tip of one another. The horizontal road is quite a bit lighter too, compositional, cutting the photo in half. The other two roads lead back to the wonderfully colorful mountain backdrop. Dense but beautiful.
@@metalfingersfilm Plain stupid.
I forgot Willem was a car guy, cause that Volvo is bueno
Amazing camera & amazing price! I have a Pentax 645 50mp camera that I love, but it wont fit in my pocket, & the quality of the photos is superb & it is an very affordable. I still love film but my Pentax is difficult to avoid when taking photos.
My eyes kept getting attacked by the white frame, but great pictures and a very dope video
even at 8k with out the grip if you had been thinking of getting a digital back this thing is a steal. Looking at prices and trying to find batteries and adapter plates for legacy digital backs is an expensive pain in the neck.
nice... and lovely camera..... were they all shot at very low iso, f11, infinity focus?
I recall when medium format backs first made their debut in the early 2000s. Phase One, etc. 15,000 was seen as an obscene amount of money. Would save you a lot of time spotting dust from medium/ large format chromes. Nice review, Willem. Subscribed.
15k 20 years ago is closer to 27k now. So definitely obscene.
@@PGphoto2011Well, Phase One's new XC iQ4 costs 70k and it's a 150 megapixel sensor attached to a fixed 23mm, f5.6 lens... 13k for this sounds like a bargain actually 😂
I see that you were working at f/19 to f/32 (around 13:00). Do medium format lenses suffer from the same diffraction issues as full frame/crop frame lenses at those f-stops?
Great video!
willem, you're great!
Beautiful Camera. Would love to take it to a photo trip too.
10 seconds in and I'm having a heart attack how you're waving that thing around you got some balls mate 😂
Yes! I'm glad Hasselblad still has you on their short list for reviewing new camera releases! I love this project you've been working on, too. I also love the form factor of this camera for all the reasons that you outlined. That said, I own the sister to it, the X2D which has the same sensor. For those viewers thinking of buying either of these cameras, what you give up for this body type versus the X2D are excellent sensor image stabilization, and a significantly greater degree of weather resistance. If you still have this camera and lens, you might try shooting at wide-open or at least wider than f/4. These lenses are so sharp you can see softness from diffraction even at f/5.6 and smaller apertures on that lens/sensor combination. (The body provides auto focus bracketing and auto exposure bracketing to allow you to easily and quickly do that).
All that aside, I really can't wait to see this project when it's done, especially if you publish a book or host a gallery show. For the sake of our entertainment, however, def. spend that $13,000 on more Volvos and Volvo parts for your other channel!✌
As a fellow X2D owner, I agree completely with the upside of the X2D over the 907x. That said, I do love the design of the 907x and the ability to use that digital back on Hassy film bodies. Love seeing @WillemVerb taking this out on his awesome project!
The 907X has the same rubber gasket on XCD lenses, a rubber gasket on the back that is against the body and a rubber gasket on the back side door (battery and card access).
what a crazy camera wow
would love to see the back on the film body
i wasnt expecting to see you here, WheelemVerb 😂😂
Over time ,; Add the cost of 120 films , processing , scanning or printing ,sooner or later it's gonna cost possibly the same .
This being a professional film camera has a good hdr processing which means the computing capacity of the software in this camera is very capable. Most pro cameras or dslr dont process the hdr unless you shoot in raw and combine multiple images to get the proper exposure of bright and dark areas at the same time.
This also has a unique signature style in the images it takes. OnePlus phones also seem to have this but doesn't work well on phone cameras as it does with this professional camera. The yellowish hue is present and it seems to be it's signature style.
Makes LA's car-centric nightmare look nice
Interesting how the cross on the hill in the first frame showed up a bit better on the 4x5 film than the hasselblad
i think 13k is crazy then i look at a mamiya 7 trying to fetch 7k and it almost makes the digital hasselblad seem like a deal. lol.
V70R ftw 😂 great video
super camera and super car! 🦾👍😊
Love this video! Can you make a video on your editing style?
Wow Hasselblad content has exploded today! The X-Pan is still my holy grail camera
Great videp as always but please get a heat shield for the rear bumper dude! Those black marks are heart breaking on such a nice jdm classic 🥺
Beautiful camera 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Hey willem 📷 hope everything it’s well with you 😃 well it’s beautiful photos that you are creating 👌
It’s my first time on your channel 🫢but ofc the camera 📸 it’s make everything so smooth and looking crisp, but in my eyes 👀 it’s that you have the foundation from film and you need the eyes too seeing the image before it’s taken 🤩
That’s it’s my dream camera 📷 but will never have the money for it but thanks for sharing this video, take care regards// J 🇸🇪
Amazing images. Are these pictures published somewhere? I would love to download them.
When attaching the back to the body, are you not supposed to release the button rather than snapping it in?
Thanks for taking night shots. I’m sure it’s a pretty outdated way of thinking now that technology has come further - but I was always under the impression higher megapixels performed worse in low light. I can see it’s not the case though!
What a camera 🤤
I want one looks awesome
Willem, you should check out Oli Kellett's new project Cross Road Blues if you haven't already!
the shots are insane. if i had the money to blow i would be running to the store right now. an absolute beast of a camera. i don't think i know a modern age photographer who can quite capture and also articulate the importance of light in all different condition as well as you. you've been inspiring me for so many years, right from my final folio at university to the work i produce now, so thank you for that.
Every single one of these photos can be done on a regular camera. There'd literally be no discernable difference. We are far past the point of "I need X camera for Y look" and into an era where post production editing is the limiting factor. Idk why people fan boy for Hassbleblad so hard that they seemingly forget this.
@@CanditoTrainingHQ These guys are probably stupid or are living under the rock. What's great about these photos? People now a days take same or better pictures with their Iphones and sony experia etc
As a Hasselblad film camera user from the 90’s and into the early 2000’s, I have fond memories of that system. Running a studio at the cusp of the changeover to digital resulted in flicking all my film gear. Blads, Leica M6, Canon Eos to go 💯% with the new tech. It paid dividends big time, but the vibe around the cameras was degraded. No soul compared to my past experience. Anyhow, kind of full circle now in a way. I just bought the Leica M11P and a few lenses. It’s a seriously nice camera… I love using it!!!
However… had I known the Hasselblad was being released….
Hi @WillemVerb will you turn these freeway photos into a book project at some point?
that's impeccable
