The Maya Hotkey editor makes it VISUALLY easy to see what keys are available, I wish Blender had the same thing. maya is 305 per year for their indie version. If you buy a lot of Blender addons like me then it is basically break even over a few years due to the already build in maya features. it comes down to what are you more comfortable with since they will both be supported for years to come.

It's a weird statement that it breaks even over a few years. That would mean your spending on blender addons speeds up rather than slows down over the years. It would be weird since with each addon you patch the missing features, so after N years you should have all you need and you'r not required to pay anymore, while you still pay yearly for Maya. Also Blender has some great solutions that Maya doesn't.
Still, it works both ways, I'm here learning Maya, as some things just can't be done in Blender correctly when it comes to compatibility/workflow with other programs.

I don't get this type of comments, and I just thing that are lies. No one needs to buy addons, and if they do, it's for specific tasks. Not even the most 3d generalist guy need more than 10 addons

@@jamqdlaty "things just can't be done in Blender" you made my point for why we buy addons in Blender ...

Maya has the INDIE version at 300€ x year ... as well as houdini (even if indie license in houdini in 300€ x two years) i used maya indie license

Thanks for the vid and Hotkeys my friend BTW, You missed out the part where you can pay $300 for MAYA INDIE licence which gives you the lot for a year. You have to be broke enough to be eligible (ie earn less than $100k a year). I wish I new about this a year ago

As a Maya user I can tell you that for most projects, probably Blender is a nicer software to use. I love how fluid Blender is, and looks more modern, is funnier let's say, more inspiring. Only real need to go for Maya is related with job possibilities in bigger studios, but those are not hiring these days, more of the opposite. If I had to learn a software from zero today, I would go with Blender.

TBH modelling in maya is more fun than blender. I just love the marking menus, i prefer mouse rather than clicking keyboard shortcuts. Also i am seeing people commenting about maya UI looking shit, you can literally customize the UI more than blender. The thing i like about blender is the shading and the geometry nodes, that is so cool and useful. Maya also introduced the LookdevX graph editor which i personally like. But the shading in blender is good compared to maya. In the end both softwares are good in their own ways 👍🏻

I'm the opposite. trying to switch from blender to maya to work in game studios but I'm missing the shortcuts so much... It's so much slower having almost no shortcuts, blender's workflow is a lot faster

Maya has key modifers for modeling with transform constraints like slide - which blender can't integrate already 10 years... and this what each modeler uses each minute.
Blender has a bug with vertex snap to backfaces even with turned on backface cooling in snap menu.
Blender has no useful target weld tool. Has no parametric meshes exept UV Sphere - after years... WTF??? That is strange soft for emotional guys )))

what you are able to do in blender with some third party plugins since a few years ago, in Maya was possible 20 years ago with no third party plugins at all. You blender fanboys are pathetic, and most of you prefer blender because you are broke
