Super Mario 64 was part of the recent major Nintendo beta leak and honestly... I'm baffled. After 24 years we finally have a concrete, tangible close to the mystery. Luigi has been found in the beta files of a Mario 64 iQue asset pool... Never would I have ever imagined L is Real would truly be finished, but in the midst of the Super Mario 64 personalized craze, we finally have our answer... Not quite the creepypasta 1995 build we were looking for, but one with amazing things hidden within!

But the fact that he was actually found in accordance with 2401 is the most ridiculous thing in all of human history, and nothing will ever top it

Actually the whole Wario Apparition was never intended to be this weird creepypasta thing, but simply just another addition to the whole “Every Copy of Mario 64 is Personalized” meme, which itself was just this big culmination of all the Mario 64 memeing on places like 4chan (which is where that whole thing started). Sure, it has essentially been ruined thanks to the Internet running with it and turning it into this creepypasta, but it wasn’t always like that.
@@Azelf89 Fair, but the myth and cryptic rumor of Wario in the game "due to our subconscious desire to see Wario in the game" and the alleged shared nightmares just sound like such a bad creepypasta by themselves. You know, like all those "when I died in the game, I felt weaker" or "the game's palette turned blood-red, I lost power but the console and TV were still powered on" etc. Basically the whole "game mysteriously effects reality" trope.

The phrase "L is real 2401" was really impactful to me, especially, because both of my names start with L and I was born on 24th of January. In fact, I'd been planning to use that as a machinima plot device at one point back when I made SM64 machinima, but that was years ago and I probably won't go back to it.

The date cannot be a coincidence, someone must have had the files, read that idea, and gone "hey why not release it then."
That's what I'm thinking too; the plaque probably doesn't even say anything remotely close to what the fans think it does, but whoever had the files saw the rising popularity of the fan theories surrounding it and saw an opportunity to do the ultimate fan service.

Wow. It actually happened. This was basically how I started being interested in video games. I had played mario 64. I found some online forums discussing this and it intrigued me. And here I am, many years later, and the mystery that brought me here is solved. This makes me genuinely emotional.

@@maxkoob Well, today the Blood's source is not that needed since two fan-made ports (BloodGDX and NBlood) were made which reverse engineered Blood.exe. Plus for some, there's also Fresh Supply which is a recreation of Blood in KEX engine. But still, having the original source would have been still a tremendous event for Blood community. Also, two people are known to still possess the source, so certainly it's not lost.

The actual leak is incredibly massive and covers hundreds of games and utilities, I doubt it was all put out just for the Luigi model.

Well. Nobody knows exactly how are these scrapped worlds, so who knows! Fun fact: the eyes of bowser would have been blue since it was being decided the eyes colours

Unfortunately, besides what seems to be a couple test levels and MAYBE (probably not) some extremely early versions of some worlds (such as the funhouse), it appears that the scrapped worlds were cut very early on, seeing as how Mario 64 had hefty deadlines to meet. I agree it would still be cool to have a romhack that allows you to explore these areas though

I think it was arranged for the information to come out at that time because lots of people were obsessed with that sign that doesn't mean anything, that wouldn't have been in English anyway if it did mean something.

Actually I already knew about this by Beta 64's super mario 64 video (which was released in 2014)

It’s like a happy ending, with all these creepy tapes of the beta, it made it look like Luigi was completely hidden, unearthed, left forgotten. But now people can finally see that he really WAS real. Luigi finally got what he deserved: respect. ✊

I honestly thought that the story ended with that letter from the Nintendo rep, but even then there was more to come.
Maybe it's coincidence, but that statue was truly a prophecy that told the future. It certainly wasn't a horror story, but something beautiful and a mark on what the fans can really do when they put their best foot forward.
