@Gabriel 2020 Which game does a Goomba say that? Cause I've played most of the M&L RPG series, never beat any of them but the original Bowser's Inside Story, and only because I had a classmate to mash a specific button faster than I can even with my good buttonmashing hand (that being my left hand oddly enough, despite me being Right-handed like most humans), and the reward was nothing. We see Bowser about to fight the Mario Brothers, but it's all handled in the ending credits. Anyways, I'd like to hear what game and which Goomba says that Mario stomped on him again? If it's in the Paper Mario games I never played (anything after Super Paper Mario), I'd like to inform you, that the Paper Mario games takes place in a fictional story in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Not everything you see on the internet is true, it's like when they say that Miyamoto hates DK Country and he came out to deny that it wasn't true. It has also happened to Akira Toriyama that they say things about him that are not true and to others.
Miyamoto: My game character is made for people that have the age of 18+! His game character: a nice and wholesome plumber coming to save a princess from a big bad turtle.
He takes hallucinogenic mushrooms to make himself more powerful and murders Bowser’s army of actual turtles . . . and I guess he did enslave Donkey Kong
So... Miyamoto isn't okay with Mario doing the v-sign but he's completely okay with Mario wearing cute animal suits and overall running through these colorful and happy cartoony worlds? ... okay
Miyamoto: "Mario isn't a kids game. It's supposed to be something 18 year old guys can enjoy." Also Miyamoto: And then Paper Mario pulls out confetti and finds the funny toad while collecting stickers
He also apparently thought Super Paper Mario was too dark for the series. It's his series, and I can respect that, but he's a bit contradictory sometimes.
J. Barrett though he is the alleged reason that Sticker Star had no original characters other than Kersti, and why it had no story at all. Then again, Tanabe may just be pushing the blame away from himself
@@Aleks-hp8pr Miyamoto made some suggestions to tone that stuff down a fair bit in Sticker Star and wanted it to not be too similar to TTYD in his eyes, however he did not say to make everyone a generic toad and make everything around disposable stickers and completely throw out RPG stuff, that was Tanabe as far as I'm aware. Heck, from what I heard Miyamoto thought the final version of Sticker Star we got was boring lol.

@@Igneeka Damn, I forgot about Mr. Video. That's more obscure for sure since I only knew about Jump Man the most. I'm just saying that if he was trying to get all old names right while trying to show it's who Mario was 'at that time' he could've gotten it right at least to further show the change he went through. I think they added a reference to it in a later game with a song. .. I just haven't played a lot of the more recent Mario games since these tend to make me feel sick trying to play them. x_x I'll stick to just 2D
No it was "Mr Video", Jumpman came later, but it was more of a nickname until they decided to call him Mario. And Pauline was called simply "Lady", and I don't think she was a princess.
I had a weird feeling when you said the V finger pose had been used for the last time in Super Mario 64, so I went to check, and Mario also does the classic twirl into V-shaped fingers towards the screen when you complete a level in singleplayer mode of Dr. Mario 64, a game released in April 2001.
Yeah, there have been several comments pointing out other games since SM64 where Mario can be seen using the gesture. Funny how they haven't been challenged though...
@@jeff_fafa Luigi,s Mansion and TTYD also have the peace sign with Luigi and Koops doing the signs in those games and they came out in 2001 and 2004 respectively, enough said.
Deshra Dine It was actually Mr. Video. It was supposed to be a character that would be featured in every Miyamoto game. Thankfully it was changed to Jumpman pretty soon after
Odyssey wasn’t the first comeback of the peace sign in a “Mario game”. Luigi does a peace sign in Luigi’s Mansion when he gets a key for a room I believe.
Ironically, the peace sign returned in a game where Mario can literally become a tank and fire missiles at enemies, other tanks and innocent bystanders.
@@gamerpigeonakafbi8210 And that is why Peach being possible to possess by Mario and in another idea, Bowser being able to too, was scrapped from Mario Odyssey.
I mean, it looks like it, but i dont think it came from that reason. But the no original characters rule was actually more like a thought shigeru gave to the PM game director, but he decided to follow it. And tbh, as a game director, the one to blame is him, if he wants to do Original characters, he can
And the reason doesn't even make sense. He thought it was becoming too childish so he banned one particularly gesture which doesn't even have childish associations? Something is missing. I just realized this is the same guy who made the fifteen-minute "Why Chain Chomps Bark" video (answer: they're like dogs. Duh.)
I feel bad for Miyamoto, i can relate to how he feels lots of times when i see franchises i love like pokemon or star wars constantly dumbed down more and more to cater to small kids and the modern sensibilities of their parents
Hm, I don't know. I never thought Mario's hand gesture when collecting a moon was references to the previous Mario games. I thought he was just playing Rock Paper Scissors. ... Ok, it makes less sens. But if you take into the account the ban, I can imagine Koizumi pitching Miyamoto about adding Rock Paper Scissors to make a fun little game in Odyssey, as a way to put the V sign back. Come on, I can't be the only one playing Rock Paper Scissors against Mario every time I collected a moon, right ?
If he wanted to game to be more directed towards adults why not just have the mountains be giant tits or something? Or at least some cus words in the dialogue.
Funny how the same man is the one that suggested Paper Mario be dumbed down and kiddiefied, lacking any of the seriousness and darkness the previous games, namely TTYD and SPM, had. NOOOOOOO PEACE SIGN, but repeated paper puns and 4th Wall Breaks? HELL YEAH!
To be fair, he has reasons for doing so, those suit powerup series have powers tied to them. No idea why Raccoon and Tanuki Mario can fly after max P Speed though...
@@tigerosu2070 Actually if they are anthropomorphic animals, then they are part of the fandom like it or not. Nobody has a right to kick people out of that fandom for being attractive to non-human beings that thinks human-like, even if they are zoophilia (though, I do hope those who has urges after real-world non-human animals do get help to lower the urges)...
I think the first example of Mario giving the "peace" sign was on the cover of the Famicom version of Super Mario 2 (the "Lost Levels" in America), where it doesn't mean "peace" or "victory" but, you know, "two"
To be fair, Luigi when he is without a Mushroom originally sort of put up a gesture that looked like he was flipping you in Super Mario World, but this was changed to do the same thing as Mario in Super Mario Maker 2.
Personally, I don't like the look of the Modern Mario-Peace Sign. When chunky little 16-bit or low-poly Mario does it, the peace sign looks cute at the end of his stubby little arms. But it feels kind of unnatural, almost uncanny on a modern and more realistic Mario. The complicated movement of outstretched arm, flipped wrist, two out of five fingers extending feels too complex on a character like Mario. Mario is simple, he runs and jumps and spins and punches and throws things. When he looks this real and does a motion that nuanced, it looks uncomfortable. Mario's body isn't normally articulated so specifically. I think Miyamoto and Tezuka might BOTH be wrong here. Mario is not a real person, he's a cute character. But in the current generation of graphics, "a peace sign" feels TOO realistic to look natural at the end of Mario's arm.
While this video is 3 years old, Super Mario RPG just came out with its remake and Mario and Mallow's peace sign victory was changed. Mario just takes off his hat. Mallow just raises his hands. The ban is still in effect 😂

I thought exactly this since the first Zelda game kinda had one

I mean, he is Italian. He definitely did talk to some -Nazis- *WWII GERMAN PEOPLE*
It’s sad that that’s how he felt about it. His character created so many memories for multiple generations.
Not everything you see on the internet is true, it's like when they say that Miyamoto hates DK Country and he came out to deny that it wasn't true. It has also happened to Akira Toriyama that they say things about him that are not true and to others.
@@DequerkYeah but they have censored this gesture. The new Mario RPG doesn't even have him make the gesture on victory anymore.
*O H*
@@originalbestdadofgaming I see you've watched that Game Theory hack.
Are you implying that adults aren't allowed to enjoy wholesome wahoo plumbers
No, i'm just joking about how Miyamoto wanted mario to be only made for adults and later on became a character made for everyone of any age
So... Miyamoto isn't okay with Mario doing the v-sign but he's completely okay with Mario wearing cute animal suits and overall running through these colorful and happy cartoony worlds? ... okay

Someone went rogue and against the ban :O
Not a "Super Mario" game. It's a spin-off.
I believe this doesn't hold true for some spin-offs, I distinctly remember him giving the V-sign in stuff like Mario Golf.
@Gabriel 2020 Well, he doesn't make the main Mario games either. He's been mostly producing them since the late 90s.
And Luigi’s mansion
Miyamoto: "Mario isn't a kids game. It's supposed to be something 18 year old guys can enjoy."
Also Miyamoto: And then Paper Mario pulls out confetti and finds the funny toad while collecting stickers
He also apparently thought Super Paper Mario was too dark for the series. It's his series, and I can respect that, but he's a bit contradictory sometimes.
@@aspenleef I mean, with how many people die in Origami king...it's honestly a bit darker.
@@aspenleef Paper Mario isn't really Miyamoto's, though.

Wait. Hooold up. Paused to say this. ... I could've sworn Mario's name during the first DK game was 'Jump Man', not Mario.
Sinistar Aries Yeah, it was. It wasn’t until the next installment that it would be Mario.
@@Matsubusa69 He really needs to check that shit first.. but by now he should know this kind of info talking about these games so much. I barely keep up with game history and I can remember that. .. and I don't think Pauline was a princess at first either...
He was supposed to be named Mr.Video unless I'm mistaken only in the english localization he is referred to as Jumpman
But also this is still Mario, everyone knows this fact but it's pretty irrelevant to the subject I guess
I know I'm that one annoying guy, but Mario's name was named "Jumpman" in Donkey Kong.
That's Mario's dad I think
And Pauline (the damsel in distress in Donkey Kong) isn’t a princess.
Emma Utterback Someone has watched the full timeline on Mario... I remember the Game theorists covered this so you are right.
In smash melee it states that Mario's first video game apperince was donkey Kong.
your comment actually wouldn't have been annoying if you didn't write "name was named."
Your origin of Mario is incorrect on one aspect. His original name wasn’t “Mario” it was “Jumpman”.
Wow 😯
I forgot about that
Actually it was Mr. Video lol
Deshra Dine It was actually Mr. Video. It was supposed to be a character that would be featured in every Miyamoto game. Thankfully it was changed to Jumpman pretty soon after
IceBlueLugia he was never actually called “mr. video” miyamoto decided against it and never used it. Jumpman was actually used.
Odyssey wasn’t the first comeback of the peace sign in a “Mario game”. Luigi does a peace sign in Luigi’s Mansion when he gets a key for a room I believe.
That's a luigi game tho
luigi's mansion is a luigi game,so it technically is not a mario game.
@M.L. 'BEWMIE' Wolff Yes, but that doesn't make it a mario game
Bring in peace from all evil

Ironically, the peace sign returned in a game where Mario can literally become a tank and fire missiles at enemies, other tanks and innocent bystanders.
I guess Miyamoto was reading _War and Peace_ as he was developing the game?
He can also become a hyper realistic T-rex and possess hyper realistic people
@@gamerpigeonakafbi8210 And that is why Peach being possible to possess by Mario and in another idea, Bowser being able to too, was scrapped from Mario Odyssey.

Wow. It's almost as if we watched the same video.
Ragamuffin Skullman just a TL;DR
Honestly, I thought all of Mario’s victory animations when grabbing a moon was just a random “Rock, Paper, Scissors” thing
He was doing the peace sign in artwork that was more detailed than any of the games at the time. I'm used to it, it never seemed out of place.
