Recently took my GH6 trip to Olympic National Park in the USA. The exposure tools, especially the spot meter and waveform gave me the best v-log results I have ever attained. The weather sealing was another big bonus as I was out in the rain and snow several times. I found the autofocus solid when vlogging and honestly that is the only time I use AF so I’m happy. The price performance on this camera is stunning and the video tools separate it from cameras costing much more.

Just finished watching your review, what a BRILLIANT job you did!!! On your last comment on my GH5 video you said some features of the GH6 can be overkill but damn, it's hard not to feel tempted and give this machine a shot... I guess I'll give my good old GH5 one more year of love and then go for the 6 once I get more cash. Excellent video one more time 👏🏼

Love the video and your content. You always do a great job at explaining everything. Wondering if you are able to set one of the front custom buttons as an AF on button (I know there is one on the back but for my use it would be handy if it could also be on the front of the camera)? I’m assuming the gh6 doesn’t have touch to focus like some of the older models did. Thanks very much for the content you create and the work you put into your videos.

I just upgraded from my GH5 to a GH6. I am working my way through the 800+ page manual. One thing I missed from my DVX200's which I still use in a studio behind teleprompters was the ability to set multiple focus points and transition timing. This is not a run n gun feature many will relate to. But is is like having a focus pulling operator at your side when filming. I don't trust autofocus, never have, probably never will. I run manual, and have my rig equipped with lens motors turning the Lumix Leica f1.7 zoom 25-50 and 10-25 lenses into servo lenses.
I just found that you can set up to three focus positions and focus transition timing. When the talent is working from mark to mark, you just push the touch screen button and the focus moves to the mark at the timing you set. It can also be used when you are moving toward or away from the talent on rails. When you have this built in, and you are doing studio production, you would never trust a camera to pull focus for you. And you don't need a focus puller at your side transitioning to marks on his dial.
Hello, this is a serious camera at an unbelievable low price.

Great review. Regarding the AF: too bad they didn't go for the PDAF. My hope is that with overall faster processing speed improvements through firmware will follow. Especially in combination with the software focus limiter function the final overall AF quality and reliability will cover 99% of people's needs.
Now all I'm waiting for is the photocentric G9 equivalent of the GH6. Kinda G9 MkII or G10...

Great video thanks. Do you have a video talking more about the auto exposure comparison between GH5ii and GH6? Would you generally leave the GH6 on auto exposure or use manual - to avoid the background over exposing when background light varies in a scene?

VFR allows you to shoot 120p and the file it creates is already at your timeline speed of 30p. It gets slowed down without audio in camera vs having to do it in editing with audio still attached.

I am curious on few things:
If we film 5.7k without zooming, later crop 100mm or 200mm on certain portion for some nice scene, will it be quite close to APSC or Full Frame sensor normal 4k zoom in to record?
What specs of computer need for handling 5.7k or 6k video?
I did get answer from some other video reply but need more to confirm it.
Also, can anyone give me a good reason why we still need Full Frame sensor 4k camera since we have the 5.7k or 6k 4/3 sensor camera give solid result other than the sensor size reason?
Not so good focusing as usual?

I've been sitting on my 12-35 VARIO II lens for 2 years hoping the GH6 would have phase detect. I'm not a pro and I'm not ashamed to admit a machine can focus better than me. I know I'm not alone when I say I want AF without pulsing. I started with the G7 and then moved to the G9 but sold both due to Pany AF. The new batteries are backwards compatible. Once you need a few new ones you can start moving over to the new type. I had probably 8 of the old type, now I've only got one left.

People's ideas of usable iso is super subjective. I find the gh6 footage to look perfectly usable at iso 12800. He's talking iso 2000 and 3200, like that's the camera's second base native iso, it's your starting iso in VLOG with dynamic range boost.
You are essentially saying you only find the camera produces usable quality at the base iso. Hard no to that. The image quality on any phone or small tablet up to iso 6400 is immaculate. Absolutely flawless. Even 12800 looks fantastic on most phones and tablets. It only falls apart on big tvs

Let’s start with the fact that GH6 is currently NOT FILMABLE xD Hehehe. Go watch The DP Journey last video ;)

well, you can't compare GH6 to Sony 7s3 image wise. Sony has way better dynamic range imo. And there is less noise as well. But I do agree on other points.

You can easily compare them. Dynamic range is only one part of the comparison.

I would still buy a GH5 even today. To compare this to an A7SIII is only fair because Panasonic was brave enough to put the price near the A7IV. This should be a $1,300 camera. It's a feature-packed, nostalgic massive disappointment. The day this came out I bought an A7IV. Panasonic transformed the GH5 into a cube with the BHG1 adding a slightly faster processor and web streaming features. Then, they took the BGH1, put it back into the GH5 and called it a GH6 just to bounce the price point back. I waited years for this and it's a slap in the face to us who held our GH5's for so long waiting for this. Sony deserves our money now, Panasonic gave up.

Absolutely agree 1000% on the price thing. I'm sticking with my GH5 until the price comes down a bit and the inevitable firmware updates go well.
