    Hi Neil. Another great video - clear and concise. For years I have wondered how iMates work, and now I know. Hope you realise how much of a difference your no-nonsense videos make to so many of us. Keep up the great work. Please do something on the Styles and Standards Editor if you get a chance. Many thanks
    Stephen

    That was a great tutorial. I use iParts but I never realized how effective these iMates are. Thank you so much!

    I love this channel. So many things I've never used and never had the time / need to figure out. iMates was near the top of that list.

    Great tutorial. It took me a while to figure what a "pa'un" was but when I realized what was meant was a "pattern" with phonetically sounded out Ts and the included '"r" I was good to go. 🤓

    Good Morning Guv.
    So if I did put iMates in a bunch of the holes, how do I go about putting the standoffs into select holes, not all of them?

    ifeatures drive me insane. That would be a good once. I never thought google would demonitize inventor tutorials.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cruciferousvegetable Oh Google haven't demonetised my vids but tbh if they did it wouldn't even matter, at this channel size you're talking $250 per month income for my entire channel. The ad revenue just isn't a thing for me, it might as well be turned off!

    • @PeteBrubaker
      @PeteBrubaker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should monetize in other ways, like Patreon. I don't give a shit about the extra content and crap, I just like to chip in a buck a month to people I learn from. It ads up.

    A little off topic here but is anyone else getting the sense that Autodesk is gradually trying to push users into their cloud based Fusion software.?
    Its bad enough that they keep removing software and capability out of Product Design Collection (suite....)
    I have no desire to go "cloud" based. Not secure.

    • @Krzys_D
      @Krzys_D 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, they are still working on making Inventor newer and better every year, Fusion 360 is their cloud software, they'll keep that as their cloud software.

    • @aWhiskeyTangoFoxtrot
      @aWhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you are right.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea I don't see them trying to push anyone yet, although they are putting a massive amount of R&D and promotion into the cloud stuff, I haven't seen any evidence to suggest they're pushing people towards it yet. Carl Bass was a huge cloud fanboy so who knows what the next CEO will do with all that. If they don't change path I do think it will end up being a push to cloud software but it won't happen for years, maybe even beyond most of our working lives. The internet in general is too unreliable to invest 100% of your business into, that's been made very apparent today after that worldwide ransomware attack

    • @PeteBrubaker
      @PeteBrubaker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IMO, the ransomware attack is the result of terrible security practices and budgetary restrictions, not that the internet is unreliable. It's unreliable and redundant by design.
      In terms of cloud applications, I look at it from the viewpoint of the developer. They can make great strides in feature development with less risk by being able to make small fixes to the backend live to everyone instantly. They are also able to take advantage of parallel computing to increase user experience and interactivity. It also makes providing the entire power of the application to multiple platforms much easier. Also, no more hardware dongles, licensing servers, licenses, and no piracy. Given the upsides to the developer, user, and the way competition works, I expect this trend in software development to increase in popularity.
      The major problem Autodesk needs to solve IMO, is uptime. They can't take it down, ever. When they upgrade they need to have a set of transfer servers that allow the existing product to function. It needs to be more hot swap for the customer.

    What an absolutely terrible way to do it. From my time writing tools for artists to use in games, we avoided keyname matching like the plague. Way too many things to go wrong.
    Also, I think you could have got away with one constraint here, using the circular edge on the bottom of the bore, and the circular edge on the chamfered face of the other part.

      I tend to agree, I am a bit disappointed at Autodesk doing such flimsy solution that will cause much problem in larger projects.

  • @dummag4126
    @dummag4126 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    it does not work absolutely !!!!!! Inventor places the parts with iMate without linking them together depending on their name. it would have been nice if your tutorial was true. You used in this video only one part to match so you didn't notice it. Inventor places a part with iMate in the first free place, even if it has a different iMate name. That's why iMates are not useful, if not for simple jobs. At least until the 2015 version. By
