    Hi Neil,
    For several years I follow your video tutorials on TH-cam.
    I adore them.
    I devour them.
    Your videos are a source of inspiration and information about how to do things with Inventor.
    Please, continue with it and it must not always be complicated actions. Explanations about basics are and remain fascinating. Especially because of the way you show and tell them.
    During a build-up of a working method, it are sometimes the small tips and tricks that are so interesting to us users. Sometimes you go over very quickly. Probably because as a pro you think everyone knows it. So please do not go fast, but take your time every time to clearly show and explain each step.
    Please continue with your beautiful work, thank you for that.

    Man this is so easily explained. I love you use the term "configurations". all the other software's use configurations.
    I always love how you use REAL WORLD scenarios and talk about how someone coming after you needs to be able to understand what you have done.

    Great tutorial and not presented in the usual drab fashion which is a welcome change. I'll be looking for more of his content...

    Brilliantly clear (as always N!) ....Only looked this up as I needed to do similar in major assembly. Trying to get a simple view rep of assembly in two states but assembly is derived skeletal/top down,/parts in place (no constrains) assembly. Items i want to move are sub assemblies in a circ pattern. Tried a FREE_MOVE but doesn't seem to hold view?? Any ideas?

    I can think of a lot of instances where all this will be used. Thanks, as always, for your great videos!

    what about moving constraints such as insert depending on position view?

    question guys:
    sub-assembly 1 has a positional representation set
    sub-assembly 2 has a positional representation set
    I put both sub assemblies in top assembly. In top assembly I create a positional representation, am I right in thinking, in order to toggle both sub assemblies pos reps active, I need to make these two sub assemblies adaptive?

    Maybe an idea for future. iAssembly vs iCopy.

    Hi Neil
    Thanks for another good tutorial, but as everyone's need is slightly different, mine is not covered.
    If I was doing a room layout (assy of walls, bed, wardrobes etc) and I had say a bed constrained against wall 'A' what would be the best way to show the bed constrained against say wall 'B' by using view reps? or would I be better creating another assy to portray an alternative layout?
    Your vid covers well the overriding of constraints to different values, but not a different set of constraints in each rep.
    Thanks again.

    Hi!
    Very nice video. New for me was how to use PosReps in animation. So I tried with one of my assemblies and unfortunately it did not work out as you demonstrated. Finally I found out the difference between your and my assy. I have used joints instead of constraints. So when I replaced joints with constraints everything works fine. Do you know is there a way how it works with joints?

    What if you have Pos Reps in a sub assembly? Like an open & shut drawer in a drawer unit, will they still work when then parent assembly is placed in a drawing?

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, depends how you set up the assembly as to where you active the pos rep but yes. A drawer could be exactly the same as this robot example, my robot=your drawer assembly, moving my robot arm=moving your drawer open and shut

    • @originalmorafin
      @originalmorafin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TFI thanks for your reply, your cool. However I should have been a bit more specific, I would want to have the rep in the drawer runner sub assembly so that it would be there every time I used the drawer sub in a unit parent assembly. So effectively the reps would always be a level down from the drawing view. Would you have to 'stack ' the pos reps like you do with design reps?

    • @tarmo340
      @tarmo340 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same question. I have a situation where my main assembly contains hydraulic cylinders as sub assemblies. So cylinders strokes are described in cylinder assy not in the main assy. And you can not replace stroke joint/constrain in main assy until cylinder is sub-assy. What would be the proper way to get PosReps managed?

    • @shaunalexander5000
      @shaunalexander5000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have the same question, basically, how do you link the pos reps in a subassembly through to the top level assembly, or if not link what is the best way to manage this. I have tried researching this topic and am finding it hard to find any info.

    Thank you for good video. I have a question: is it possible to completely remove a constraint in a pos rep (or maybe supress it)?

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea at 6:16 you can see in the dialog box there's a tick box for suppression, that'll suppress the constraint whilst that pos rep is active. I just didn't go into that much depth else these things could go on for hours!

    This is an unrelated question...I know you work with inventor...but I thought I'd ask. I am looking at the a Thinkpad P70 for use with Revit and V-ray and Lumion rendering for mobile use. Do you recommend Xeon (with ECC RAM) or i7 (non ECC RAM)? Is 8GB CPU cache that much better than 6 GB? Also I am deciding between the Quadro P4000 (8GB VRAM) or P5000 (16GB VRAM). The CPU difference in cost is not much but the P5000 will set me back an extra $600. The current pricing from Lenovo is amazingly close to the Alienware GTX based laptops. Also I am looking at the Alienware 17R4 and was wondering if the external graphics amplifier accepts a variety of graphics cards including the Nvidia NV810 for connecting multiple monitors for stock trading. Thanks in advance for your help.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I can tell you for a fact that the Alienware graphics amplifier won't work with the NVS810, I have the Alienware 17R3 with the amplifier and it doesn't work with any Quadros... although the AMD Professional cards do, I've had the FirePro W9100 running off the amplifier which supports up to 6 4K displays. Honestly though I couldn't speak with any authority on what Revit, Lumion and V-ray need, but the mobile Xeons are getting very close to i7's now and given that overclocking in a laptop is still massively handicapped by cooling challenges, I'd be inclined to go for a good current gen mobile Xeon, i.e. not a E3 model. Again I don't know if those applications can utilise the extra power you'd get from going from a P4000 to P5000, but I struggle to understand how a laptop would be capable of utilising the full power of something like a P5000 without serious thermal issues and throttling.
      That being said, my philosophy on buying stuff is that if you can afford the best but you're not sure if you need the best, buy the best. At least then you know whatever you're doing, the system will never be a bottleneck to your workflow. Only as long as you can reasonably afford to do that. If someone needs to stick to a strict budget, it's a bit of a different approach.
