Lol, try engineering spec case Lian li PC-011! Swap boards and cooling system.
Actually, the card Teclab (Rbuass) used was pretty modded, not only vmod-- they also didn't have an unlocked BIOS. Even the pot mounting was done with a custom bracket, and the card model used was a pretty simple aib galax sg, sort of entry-level 3080 non-oc edition. Btw, loved that AC box housing, let's see if Tech Jesus can pick up the challenge on the same level-- a FE card and no special BIOS. That oughta be interesting!

Acura Addicted Overclockers UK put ETA 18.09.20 for next day delivery for cards they never had to begin with and then changed it to just “pre order” after they took the money.

When there's millions of people globally wanting these cards it does nothing but prove to us this was, for all intents, a paper launch. We're hearing stories of PC stores getting like 10 - 12 cards total and there was a line of 200 - 400 people on launch day.

New RIP GN challenge: you have to run completely stock cards minus normal software overclocking. No watercooling, no ln2 pots. May the dumbest idea win.

That's boring because then you're entirely limited to silicon lottery and you can't compensate or win with skill.
The max fan speed affecting power draw is something I only recently realized. I've had one of my GPUs set at a very aggressive fan curve for OC, but when I experimented and dropped the curve in order to reduce noise when gaming, I actually saw the same if not better performance and clock speed. Stability when up too.

6:32 Can't believe you mentioned this, I experienced this 2 days ago and have been super curious about it. I had stable clocks in the 2000MHz range with 75% fan speed and was noticing when I turned my fans to 100% my clocks would often drop into the low 1900's. There is no info out there about this and you mention it right after I experience it lol too weird.

bruh im literally fighting for my life rn with this issue, i would give anything to just be able to increase the voltage available to my card specifically for the fans so as to not increase the gpu core temps from the additional power because that makes my best undervolt clocks just not work but its so fucking close
might have to break out ductape and a box fan and craft a better side panel on my case

I live in one of the smallest states in Australia and know several people with 3080s already.. definitely supply issues but the cards are out there. I think this was literally the biggest PC hardware launch of all time ( from a demand / publicity perspective )

When you are dirt poor with gtx 1050 that can't even run any games, so you save as much as you can for the rtx 3080 just to not even getting a chance to buy it :(

I'm air cooled with my bios on a 3090 set to 480watts maxing at 80-82C in games. 1980mhz. Changed out all 3 fans, paste, and pads.
Paper launch doesn't have to mean the card doesn't exist, Jay. It means that it's being used to show higher numbers against previous products (see your vids) while not being generally available for consumers...

BTW, very, few people will even bother benchmarking their card, so that alone shows there where at very least several 10's of thousands cards sold. I wouldn't call that a paper launch. A Limited launch ? Yes, but that's expected due to events. A Paper launch? (of a few hundred or thousand)....Nope!.

Hey Jay, been watching for a few years now. Love what you do and especially love your rip gn series. I have recently found out that the welding torches we use at work are water-cooled, so I googled it and it has a recommended cooling amount of 1950 watts and a max of 5500 watts of cooling. I haven't seen any videos of people hooking them up to computers and thought this would be a werid off the wall thing you might want to do. We use the miller coolmate 4 but there are pleanty of different ones.

The memory throttles because the backside memory isnt cooled by the backplate. There is no thermal pad and its running into thermal limits
Portable air conditioner is a bit easier to get a hold of and work with than LN2, so it's impressive to reach the top ten on a stock air-cooled FE card.
In my country it wasn't even a paper launch. 3080 FE just isn't sold in Germany, Austria, Poland or the UK (some sources say all of EU...)

Overclockers appear to have had at best a couple of dozen. I have two friends who were on the site with friends helping them, trying to order just one each, and got zip. They're both waiting on pre-orders for EVGA and MSI I think and no delivery date offered. It's pretty pathetic for a company the size of Nvidia.
I'm only interested in the Founders Edition, it looks beautiful and is cheap, the other cards aren't worth it upgrading from my 2060 super

If there was 1000 benchmarks, and its 5% of the userbase, thats 20,000 gpus sold.
If it was 1% thats 100,000 gpus sold.
20,000 may not seem like a lot but at this point most peoples gpus where still not delivered.

@@woo9914 Lol i got the video confused with another one. Yeah 3D mark is paid so I dont think it shows every single 3080 user out there. But in terms of GPUs people who manage to get an extremely rare GPU that costs at least $700 within the first week of its launch are more likely than just about any other demographic to benchmark their hardware and almost certainly would have the money and be willing to purchase a $30 piece of benchmark software. So of course it isn't showing every 3080 in the world but if you look at the number of 3080s on 3D mark relative to basically any other GPU there is still only a tiny fraction of the number of people with other big mainstream Nvidia GPUs. And regardless of that Jay acting like the tiny list of people with RTX 3080s on 3DMark means there are a whole bunch of them in the wild is just dumb. Even if there were 20,000 or even 100,000 RTX 3080s in the wild (there almost certainly aren't). That would still be a miniscule amount when you are talking about total global numbers of GPUs.

Found out all what overclocking gpu memory does is improve frame timing but only about a smudge, using BL3 performance stats i managed to go from 18.3ms to 17.2ms

The like statistics are polled live, the view statistics are around every 10-15 minutes. I feel like overclocking is dead with these modern "wide" GPUs. Most cards only gain like 5%. Even between the base and top models there is less than 10% potential between them at the end of the day.

Thats just because you dont do custom overclocking work. Have to modify the cards... dont want to modify, then dont overclock. Its not rocket surgery to understand

I was a bit sad that you only had a small fan blowing on the GPU, but got SO happy when you showed the airconditioning unit cardboard channel. It's the same thing I would have done if I had a heatpump, though my floor standing fan, and every other smaller fan I could scrounge up would have served in a pinch. :-)
Love to learn how to over clock just for the fun of it but I don't trust my self and am not a quick learner haha
Afterburner overclocking is very safe, it’s basically impossible to hurt your system with it.
It's super easy literally just download afterburner, move the power slider to max and go like +100 mhz on the core clock and experiment with what works

Jay, just build a test bench inside a mini-fridge.
Would overheat in minutes. A fridge doesn't have alot of cooling capacity. It has a great insulation.
You should never put something that's just warm in a fridge, let alone something that acts like a heater.
According to posting on many social media, outside USA the card was more readily available. That's why you're seeing Brazil and European owners. They didn't have the scalpers and more units were shipped to physical stores. the lawless ripoff is happening in USA almost exclusively.

Yeah, 3080s have been showing up on the OpenVR benchmark leaderboard since the day after launch, and I've even seen a 3090 on the leaderboard as of yesterday (so two days before launch). On the Valve Index, it's about a 15% improvement over a 2080Ti, and the 3090 is another 15% over the 3080.
Also, I saw some 3080s in stock on Newegg yesterday night, for about 5 minutes before they were gone.
Same, but for whatever reason the site stopped working a couple of times, before I could pay for the card I had in my cart.

@@errhka I actually saw some more than once, staggered an hour or two apart, but got the same results both times I tried. Was in the evening, maybe 7-ish and 9-ish central? Was for one of the MSI sku's, which I assume had just come in (was not the same sku as the earliest models).
Best Buy also had some odd stuff happen again on their site, where I could see the "add to cart" button (for another MSI card), but got "not available online" type messages when I tried to add it. I hope it wasn't due to assholes using scripts to fuck the stores up, but it's hard not to suspect that lately.

U might already know but hit CTRL+F and u can fine tune each boost-voltage point. much better for these post Maxwell cards. Also u can do the Auto-OC with afterburner. I found keeping voltage stock got better clocks due to v-rel and power hits...

nearly 400w, does no one else think that's insane?! was shitting myself when i oc'd my 5700xt and it was drawing 300w.
I used to run three way 6790's... That was about 1000W of draw just for GPUs! Now they are worth more as scrap metal lol

even with 400w from a 3080 and 100w from a 3950x you still only need a 700w psu with a generous 30% overhead, I generally don't even size psu's with that much overhead 20% is more than enough so a 650w power supply.
I think people have been freaking out too much about power supplies with this generation, unless you're planning on running dual 3090's you don't need a 1200w psu.

There was barely any stock in comparison to the demand. How much stock that actually was is much harder to measure unless someone with hard numbers actually tells us.
Put a fan on the back of the air-con cardboard box (where you have your cutout-slit), and you'll have a push-pull system that should outperform the push-through system you have now, as air will move through quicker.
On a different note, I've worked in that small tan and brown shack on the wallpaper.
