Pilot here. I agree that opening that outside door would be nearly impossible, even harder than opening a car door while speeding on a highway, however it would become far easier to open if the pilot does a “forward slip” by pushing the rudder all the way to the left (and keeping the plane level with the ailerons). If this happened, the nose of the plane would swing and hold itself about 30* to the left, blocking the airstream to the rear door and making it fairly easy to hold open. Of course, there would be no reason to do that when in cruise flight… unless you knew someone would be pushed out that door.
I'm a pilot too.
I'm not that surprised the door could be opened at 4.000 feet, accidentally or otherwise.
What I'm absolutely refusing to believe is that it managed to close itself and for everyone to miss the fact that it wasn't locked.
They killed him, there's not a shroud of doubt in my mind.

in a very very very lukewarm defense, they did say the pressure would cause the door to immediately slam shut if opened
@@sidney9796 well if I heard correctly they said it took two men to open the door during the flight. One man couldn’t open it more than a few inches before the pressure would force the door to shut again. And they mentioned the moment the door opened everyone else on board would feel the pressure change and they all somehow didn’t.
The wind and air pressure would for sure whip the door closed. But then everyone on the plane would hear it slam not to mention notice the air pressure drop. Something fishy definitely happened but the door closing would not be an issue

being a person who studies aviation frequently, it literally boggled me that the official analysis concluded that he “accidentally fell out”. the doors on an aircraft are literally impossible to move while it’s in flight, and if the door opened; everyone inside would have noticed. wind would come roaring into the cabin, everyone knows what happens when a large hole is put into a flying plane.
Planes back then flew MUCH lower so it isn’t the same as planes today
@@Ariehirschhorn the altitude is still pretty high though, and even if they weren’t high the speed alone would keep the door shut tight
On small unpressurized aircraft at an altitude of only 4000 feet opening the door shouldn’t been too difficult, parachute planes easily open the door at 9000 feet or higher. Also coming from a pilot I once had a passenger open his window while we were cruising at about 4000 and I didn’t even notice until I felt the air and looked over it can be hard to hear over the engine. Just my two cents
Not impossible, the video represented it poorly but tests of the exact plane showed 2 able bodied men could manage it in flight, it’s actually a key part of the mystery cause no way it happened by himself or accidentally but definitely manageable for the crew to open it
Even just opening your car door while your going down the highway full speed would be met with a lot of resistance from pressure of just the speed alone. You can hear when someone opens a window in a car. Now imagine you’re flying 4000 ft up going hundreds of miles per hour. From the way they explained the plane, it sounded like this area where the door/bathroom and the common area were was an open concept, but that was separate from the cockpit and soundproofed so you wouldn’t be able to hear the engine. So it seems like there’s no reason why you wouldn’t hear the door open, if Loewenstein did indeed open the door by himself.

I find it interesting that none of the theories even suggested that Loewenstein paid everyone to help him fake his death by dropping him off on that beach, and then buying a body to drop into the water so it could wash up and help his wife get her inheritance. After all, the only thing that identified him was a watch that inexplicably had his entire name on it. Plus the bare minimum of clothing they could wrestle onto the body to prove that the body belonged to a rich man. Not saying that it's more likely than murder, just that I'm surprised it's not a theory.
Surely there would be easier ways to fake your death than parachuting from a plane 4000ft up (was he qualified?) and hopefully managing to landing on a yacht. Also, what was to be gained?

Let me say that I’ve watched this series since the start, and as a man terrified of horror, this is probably what allowed me to eventually get in to horror games and the like. Their humor and the generally good atmosphere these two brought to such dark stories was so appreciated and it will be missed, though not really cause they’ve got their new channel The Watcher and I’m already subscribed

Yeahhh… he “accidentally” walked out a door that was near impossible for him to open and then had enough foresight to close said door behind him. And no one noticed. Then the plane lands on the beach instead of the actual airport. And body found with a wound that is convieniently located on a place on the body where, if you were going to stab someone it would be it? 😑

It’s interesting how nine of the passengers saw anything. I also believe he was murdered. I feel like Alfred’s drink could’ve been laced with something to cause him to be dizzy. During that time, the pilot and the engineer carried him to the door, and they made him think they were helping him to the bathroom, but instead opened the other door and threw him out of the plane. His death is so weird.

Every now and then I come back to this series as a source of comfort (even though I tend to watch it at night), and I always thought that he wanted to just runaway and start a new life with his horse but got murdered instead
So what if, then landing on the beach, was them disposing of the body. For anyone wondering about the bones broken and the bruising they could have beat him immensely. The wound on his stomach could have been the kill wound, and then they could have dumped him

To anyone missing them over here in Buzzfeed, Ryan and Shane created their own channel called Watcher. Over there they have a show called Ghost Files which is the equivalent of Supernatural and they’re about to premiere a new show called Mystery Files which will be the equivalent of True Crime.
my friend and i stumbled across buzzfeed unsolved five years ago when we were seniors in high school and bored in study hall. i still remember laughing so hard we cried for ten minutes because of that poem written to michelle von emster (from the "shark" case) and then for days after as well. we watched every buzzfeed unsolved video that year, discussing theories and also laughing our asses off. these cases were always so interesting and yalls humor made it even better. best series on yt, hands down. cant wait to see what comes next for you both!
My wife and I started watching this series 5 years ago when we got married and now for our 5 year anniversary we watched the series finale. What a great series! Never been so creeped out while laughing so much in my life.

i have always been a true crime fanatic, and no show out there quite lives up to the episodes you boys have created. i will honestly continue to rewatch these over and over. while it's sad to see this series come to a close, I am definitely excited to see what other content you boys will come up with. here's to six years of laughing at horrible historical tragedies!

I know this series has been over for awhile but after binging it, I wanted to comment on some of your remarks about forensic evidence featured in a few of the cases discussed within the past few seasons.
Ryan, in the Sheppard case, you mentioned a few times “blood splatter.” This is a bit of a no-no term in the field of forensic science; the correct term is “blood spatter,” as referenced in the police report. Blood spatter is created from impact and is somewhat predictable and organized; it has forensic use. Blood splatter has no pattern or organization and therefore cannot be used in forensic analysis.
I believe it is in the Lady of the Dunes case where you make reference of how useless forensic dentistry is in some regards. That is a pretty popular opinion in the field of forensics - forensic odontology is very heavily scrutinized and if you look at cases where this forensic evidence has been used, you can see that it is worthy of the scrutiny. And don’t get me started on using the term “match” in regards to DNA results.
In the revisit of the Somerton Man case, you question how robust fingerprint databases are. And in the US at least, they are far from efficient. A lot of accessible databases to law enforcement are just made up on inmate fingerprints and there is little communication between departments. You can commit a crime in one town, be fingerprinted, and go commit a crime in another town and your prints will likely not show up in their system. Different law enforcement departments have to request access to other databases (including AFIS, the national database) and unless they think to do so, your prints are unrecoverable to them. Fingerprint databases within the United States do not communicate at all and are therefore pretty weak.
In the Wych Elm episode, you question how the murderer would hide a body before rigor mortis sets in. It is true that rigor mortis can begin to set in about 1-2 hours after death but it isn’t until 10-12 hours after death that it reaches its peak and the whole body is stiff. A body could still be moved and ‘molded’ a bit after death. Also, rigor mortis dissipates after like a day and a half so the body could also be disposed of after that time.
Just some comments that I thought of while watching. I loved hearing your interpretation of forensic evidence and I will certainly miss true crime.

@@MorganPhillipsPage i’m thinking that shane and ryan just want to focus on their own channel and not be tied down to any buzzfeed contracts etc, but i’m not really sure! i guess all good things come to an end.
@@MorganPhillipsPage they said on an article that they didn't want to be tied down to buzzfeed anymore, and that they are shifting their focus on Watcher. Ryan specifically mentioned wanting to try different opportunities that they wouldn't have gotten at buzzfeed.
This is so sad... I know Ryan and Shane are still continuing their Supernatural series... BUT I LOVE YOU TWO SOOO MUCH, YOU'RE THE REASON WHY I STILL WATCH BUZZFEED UNSOLVED... PLEASE NEVER PART WAYS, YOU TWO ARE PERFECT FOR ONE ANOTHER
