- This week is a real mixed bag of work AND weather. Michael continues to live up to his nickname of the 'machine' as he takes in the delivery of our floor joists. He also defies his fear of heights to continue removing the render on the front of the house and we both get to work clearing the land ready for fire season.

I’m glad you didn’t go with the laminate on the floor joists, those will look wonderful. From the view we had the old ones didn’t look in terrible shape, will you be able to use them in other projects? Also, your place is beautiful, the gardens off the back, the landscape the rock, absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you 😊 They're quite rotten where they've been in the wall but we'll try and use what we can! Even if they're just decorative somewhere.
Great effort on the facade once again.
Thank you! 💛
Make yourself a couple of set of piano movers wheels You will find them invaluable for moving large pieces
Thank you 😊 great idea!
The house and property is looking great Becci was your cats name she gorgeous it’s good to see that you’re tortoiseshell is a chatterbox like my girl I always thought my tortoiseshell Millie was the only one who had a opinion about everything and she’s always talking to me. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks so much 💛 she's called Tilly! She definitely rules our house 🤣 it is like she goes to check on Michael's work at the end of the day as well!!
Hello! Great job mate! Loving this project. Big hug ✌️☮️
Thank you!! 😊💛💛
👌👌👌👌💯💯💯💯your house is coming out beautifully. I love your cat❤️❤️❤️. See you next video.
Thank you so much 💛💛 she's taking over the channel 😻😻
Make yourself a ‘Dolly’, 4 x castors and double up some OSB offcuts, helps ya move mountains!! 🫡👍
Great tip 💪🏻Thanks so much 😊
I’m totally here for the tools and the cat who runs the show 😁 and I love how tidy you two are. Those eucalyptus trees though - do you have any plans to remove them. I know they fall over easily in high winds and they grow much bigger than they are now. Just a thought in case you don’t already know that. They grow like weeds here in NZ and Oz. With your climate they’re probably the same.
😅 thanks so much! Yeah, we do want to encourage the native trees to grow instead so will slowly regenerate it hopefully 😊 Thanks for watching 💛
Property is looking great!
Thanks so much 😊💛
That was a lot of work. A good soak in a tub would surely make you feel better Bravo
Thanks so much 💛
My word, my back started twitching watching you move those amazing timbers. Loads of heavy lifting ahead, but wow, how beautiful it's going to look.👍❤
Haha I know 😅 I was the same editing it. I don't know how he does it. Thanks so much 💛
You need to buy or rent some scaffolding is not safe do ing on a ladder. Take care. God bless mate.
I agree 😊 thanks so much and have a good weekend!
Wow you’ve definitely earned your supper...... that wood is solid. Great work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✅✅✅✅Love your chatty cat. 😁😁
Hasn't he just 😅 I don't know how he does it! 💛💛💛 Thank you so much! She's such a character 😻
for even better luck, nail the horse shoe on a door in such way that the curved part is down and the open part is up, like a U. This way, it will collect all the luck!! I have one on my main gate.
Wonderful 😊 thanks so much! 💛🍀
Just noticed your roof tiles have the same near horizontal end tile as mine. If you are planning to add a gutter be aware the rain can run under the end tile completely missing the gutter! The bloke who fitted my gutters said to put a bead of silicone under the edge of the tile to prevent this. Nice land clearance.
Interesting! Thanks John! We'll be doing the whole roof over summer hopefully but probably put it back very much the same so will make note of that 😊
@@PortugalonaPostcard Old fashioned way of tiling and probably without gutters. So worth looking at how to avoid having near horizontal end tiles to ensure rain actually ends up in the gutter! Replacing with flat end tiles you can hang the gutters from them on metal brackets. Old style you need to support the gutters with rods in to the wall.
You're a fountain of knowledge, John. Thanks so much 😊
Great assiduity 🎉
Thank you so much 😊
Get yourself one of drywall or heavy floor joist lifters to help you lift that heavy osb and floor joists.
Escape To rural france uses that all the time because he works alone a lot and he has been greatly helped by that l8ft. He has to use steel I beams Which are very heavy, also as well. As wooden joists. Once he got that lifter Jack it was so much easier for him. I have no idea how much money there. But whatever it is, they're worth it. Check his channel out if you don't know what i'm referring to as far as that lift jack goes. It is hand-cranked, but he uses it to go up. Three floors, which is a godsend for him.
Ah yeah we have seen him using that! Definitely something to look at, especially when it comes to the roof too 😊 thanks so much!
I am finally on 29th video. I can’t wait until you film more. I just wanted to say again what a fabulous, hard work truly pays off at the end of each day!! The land you cleaned is just beautiful. It all is just beautiful it really is! I personally think you both are a charming couple and wonderful team!! Thank you for sharing and until next time I will be looking forward to all your next task!!
Wow they drive pretty fast threw there😮
Ah, you're so lovely. Thanks so much 💛💛💛
Bravo à vous deux , quel travail ! 😍
Merci beaucoup 💛
Where was your wife when you were shifting those boards…surely she could have helped make the lift a little lighter.😼
😅 I did offer to help but those that know me will know I'd have probably been more of a hindrance than a help. I'm not known for my upper body strength 🤣 but I am working on it 💪🏻 and I did make sure he had a steady supply of beer all night afterwards 🍻
Christine here, well done with all you both have achieved so far. Just wondering, will you be able to access those downstairs rooms from inside the house? Would save having to walk in the street each time you needed something! Your house is going to look lovely when it’s done. Hugs from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you so much 😊 the plan is to have some kind of staircase. Maybe a spiral! Definitely don't want to have to go outside to get upstairs 😅 have a great weekend!! X
Yes I can definitely relate to a bossy cat my girl is the same must be a tortoiseshell thing 😂😂
Yes! I think they're renowned for being sassy 🤣
Do you worry about animals falling down the well-type open holes on the property, they don’t seem to be covered
The dogs can't get near them and Tilly cat is fine around them. We don't have any wells, there are tunnels connecting them so never seen any animals stuck there. We do plan to add a cover though 😊
The hillside looks so nice…..kitty is gorgeous and so chatty…..see you next one!
Thanks so much 💛 oh, she knows it 😻 she'll have taken over the channel soon!! 😊
When you said hello to the cat it seemed to say hello back to you.
She definitely chats to us 😻 Someone actually told me that meows are something they've developed for human interaction... Crazy isn't it!
Your kitty matches the stone wall. She or he is so pretty
😻 she...Tilly. Thank you 😊
Bet you can't wait to get using those new tools. I'm over from Monday doing some work on our renovation. If you need a hand lifting those joists and/or sheets of MDF, let me know & l'll see if l can pop over 1 of the days 👍
Thanks so much Stuart. Really appreciate it! Looks like you're arriving in time for some reasonable weather 😊
@@PortugalonaPostcard yes, weather looks a lot better than it has. Not sure what l'm going to find at our place with all the rain you've had. Our roof is pretty leaky, so l may have a bit of mess to clear up
Ah 😫 hope it's not too bad!! Let us know if you need anything 😊
It was s shame I didn't see well the first minutes what you were doing.Later on in the video I saw you were breaking the cement out of the walls. It must be a hard job to do and I assume you will doing the grouts aswell.
I love the white Iris,I only have them in blue in my garden .
Those big boards are heavy. You can put a rope around it for some grip/help when youre on your own.
Carry them like a handbag.
Thank you 😊 great tip! And yes, removing the render from the outer walls... Painful job!
Where is any of your friends to help you when you need them
😅 we didn't know it was arriving until that afternoon so didn't give us much time to arrange anything.
What are the dimensions of your floor joist boards width and height? Y our house will last hundreds of years. Great job!
6m x 225mm x 100mm. Thanks so much 😊
What a work out !
Who needs a gym! 😅
@@PortugalonaPostcard precisely ! Great progress. Just be careful of your back with those heavy loads
♥️
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys good work, very heavy wood.
Thanks so much 😊 have a fabulous weekend 💛💛💛
Wondering if a small dolly might be helpful, the ones that are just a platform on 4 wheels so you Cld put one end of the joist on it and roll it around? Save your back a bit as that looked extraordinarily tricky! Well done. Do you guys live on site somewhere? Is it all part of the one property? Curious of Perth Western Australia!
Great idea!! 😊 Thank you! I think you've found the earlier videos but video 2 has our current 'lodge' in it 💛

That's really good to know. Thanks so much 😊 it's Nordic pine.
Hello you two and the chatty cat. Just wondering what you paid for all the materials. Kinda fun to know the prices compared to prices in Norway. Keep up the good work
Hello 😊 of course! Especially when the pine is from Norway. We'll do a video about the beams, cost and our plans etc. ♥️
@@PortugalonaPostcard cant wait to see and hear from you. The chatty cat should have a TH-cam channel 🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha! Don't tempt her 😉🤣

A bearded Iris, not a thing.😅😅
😅 I have since been trying to educate him on this!! 🤣
That’s a Iris not lily 💚🍺
Thank you! I (Becci) am trying to educate him 🤣
@@PortugalonaPostcard I can understand my other half not to good on flowers. And the white ones in the same video are three cornered leeks I don’t think you can eat them 🤪😬🍷💚
😅 oh interesting! Thank you 💛 I think I spotted a yellow iris today... I don't think I've seen one before!
@@PortugalonaPostcard that’s right we live on the west coast of Ireland in Galway way up a large hill on a small farm. The yellow flag Irish grows wild in the fields around here 💚🍷
K o ?
Knock out? 😅
