#35 - Salvaging as MUCH as Possible From Our Restoration Project in Portugal

- We're about to head off on a much-needed break with Becci's family, which means Michael's in full tidying mode! As well as working to the up-coming land-clearing deadline, he's tidying up all of the wood we've salvaged from the house so far. We're keen to use as much of this wood as possible, so we need to store it until we can re-use/re-purpose it. You'll also find him cleaning up an old stone trough, us all heading out on a walk to a Roman bridge, and Becci providing the outtakes of the week. Enjoy and we'll see you in two weeks!

We're Michael & Becci (the humans) and Tilly (sassy English tortoiseshell cat), Alfie and Anoushka (Portuguese rescue dogs). After four years in Portugal and numerous dreams about renovating our own property, we've taken the plunge and are renovating a schist stone house and its outbuildings in Figueiró dos Vinhos. We're doing most of the work ourselves (or... Michael is!) and we'll be stepping back in time to create a character property with as many original features and antiques as possible.

Love seeing all the flowers and insects and hearing the birds. The house may be a wreck still, but nature sure isn't! Thinking of all the wood chips that you could use in the landscaping. i and don't forget to use some old those old DRY timbers in the stove heater. and some wood chips for kindling.

Looking forward to see how well your chipper lasts. I was given a 2kw one and just replaced the blade, night and day better. So will be bringing that to PT to clean up my olive branch pile. Probably invest in a petrol one eventually.

You'll both end up as sure footed as mountain goats when you finally get that land tamed. Chipper is a great idea, & you can use for garden paths & or garden beds. Can't wait to see the flowers in the trough to brighten up your day. Have a great holiday.

İçi oyulmuş kaya parçasını çok sevdim. Müthiş bir emek. Ben yerinizde olsaydım onu lavabo olarak kullanmayı düşünürdüm. Ev içinde de kullanabilirim, dışarıda da kullabilirim ona yakışan bir yer mutlaka bulurum. Bahçede belki ufak bir dış mutfak yapabiliririm orada kullanırım. Belki de girişte bir yere bahçede birşeylerle uğraştıktan sonra elleri yıkamak için, herhangi bir su ihtiyacı için onu uygun bir yere konumlandırırım. Çeşitli süslemerle çok doğal ve güzel bir lavabo olacağını hayal ediyorum dibine bir delik açmak için videolar izleyerek öğrenirim. Ev içinde kullanmayı isterim, eski bir aynayı duvara sabitleyip, bu harika kayayı cilalayıp parlatıp lavabo yaparım kesinlikle.

That was some load of work you put in there, especially the land clearance, Im assuming it was that overgrown because it was abandoned for so long or is that 1 years growth and what will be a yearly battle forever?

I hate to sound like the health and safety police but speaking from experience when I'm clearing the land I always wear a helmet mask and the amount of stuff that hits it is crazy, just one of those coming directly for your eyes and you may never see through it again, so please, order a helmet mask, they're only about €20 ish
Other done that, excellent content and I really look forward to your video coming out

@@PortugalonaPostcard May I also recommend gloves and long sleeves too, I got caught out last weekend strimming and clearing some nasty weeds and a couple of days later my left hand and arm all blistered up, I now look like I have a severe case of measles :) All the best and love all the work you two have done.
