  • FINALLY! The rest of the old wooden ceilings are down. One of the dirtiest jobs is done and Michael couldn't be happier. He also turns into David Dickinson this week when he finds some more antiques under the floorboards.
Any guesses as to how many thumbs up we get this week, too?!

WOW!! Amazing! I just discovered your channel and watched all 17 videos. I am in awe. Respect! It has to be a very physical work and you make it look so easy. I love all the videos. Kudos on the editing. I am OCD too and totally understand your meticulous, methodical work and, all the sorting, recycling and cleaning. The way you think stuff through, your planning and assessment of how long things take, are all very useful. I see that you only use gloves when removing rat poop and stuff. You must have very tough hands but I totally understand. There is nothing like bare hands to do proper work. I enjoy your routine of turning off the lights and close the door every night. I love the owls and the church clock bells. The creek and waterfall are so refreshing. I like how you mix it up with the rest of the videos. The cat is so cute. Very talkative. I read somewhere that cats only meow to humans and I am still amazed by that. Cats are magic! Dogs are playful but not as interesting as cats!! Your property looks amazing and there is so much potential. I have no doubts it will look amazing once all is done. I can't wait to see more! I am learning a lot and enjoying every bit of it. Thanks for sharing.

That was funny seeing the chainsaw blade appear rising by itself - the Jaws chainsaw 😅

What I like about your videos is that you are very thorough and tidy with your work, this will pay off in the end. I think the small glass bottle is an ink well. Best wishes.

The flower vase is art nouveau from the early 1890s and 1910.

Thinking about your stairs to the attic area, I say keep them unless you make it a loft of the downstairs. But, I'd re-design them to be symmetrical in width. So the lower portion would be narrower that it is now. Then the upper part would be wider than now. Might make them easier to use. Though, based on the headroom in the attic, probably keep the height of the landing the same.

Thanks so much. We are hoping to be able to vault the ceilings but will have a mezzanine area over a bedroom so will look at doing that with the stairs to access storage above there maybe! 😊

I totally admire all the hard work you are doing yourself. However, I worry about all that dust you are inhaling. I can't wait to see how everything progresses and how your home will turn out. And how lovely the church bells. What an added suprise to your new neighborhood

You are doing a fantastic job! I agree that you have an ink well (and a beautiful colour it is!) I think your tins are enamel paint. And my granny used to have a stem vase exactly like the one you found. Some lovely finds (minus the dead ratto lol)

Love the glass finds! Wonder what little bower bird put those there? Do you think the little tins were for tobacco? Any residue left in them? U Cld feasibly take pics of labels and enlarge them rather than find a magnifying glass.

First bottle looked like an ink or glue bottle. Hard to see top & bottom which will give you characteristics to determine age. There are plenty of websites out there tgat will give you examples to help determine age. It does appear to have had a stopper, but for ink & glue bottles that covers a wide period of time. A bit difficult to tell the age of your vase. It has a Victorian vibe... if that is right.. it's pre-1900. You might try a UV or black light on it. In a darkened room when a black light is shown on the glass, Uranium glass will usually glow green, yellow, or pinky/purple. It does look right to be Uranium glass (not enough Uranium in it if it is to harm anything). Your round ink or glue bottle definietly appears to be made with manganese. Glass with manganese will turn a rich lavender color when exposed to sunlight over a period of time. Your knife may be a letter opener, or it may also be an antique carving knife. Thinner bladed ones were used to finely shave a carved item to fine tune it. Thicker blades were used to fine tune and generally shape.

I watch with great amazement all the videos people make while renovating an old house. I then think what misery you are bringing upon yourselves with this kind of work.
And then I watch the next video and I see it getting better.
What do you do with all that wood that comes out of the buildings?

    • @PortugalonaPostcard
      @PortugalonaPostcard  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

😅 that's kind of our process too!! A lot of the wood is rotten so it's keeping us warm but we're saving as much as possible. Thanks for watching again, Johannes 🙂

Good afternoon, do you intend to climb the roof so that you can stand in this loft? Abraços do Brasil

Boa tarde 😊 We are hoping to vault the ceilings so the loft will disappear! We might have a mezzanine above a bedroom or something...still lots to figure out!

Eu acho q está lamina de serra deve ser de uma serraria tocada a água já que tem um riacho aí perto, por a lamina ser fina e curta para serrar entre 2 pessoas.

Your decanter stoppers might be made of depression glass. WWI era. No one could afford crystal and whole sets of dishes, bowls, wine glasses etc were made. You must have some serious muscles after all that. I think I am dreading my restoration.
