Dark tide had this EXACT issue with the cosmetic shop working perfectly fine. Outside of the shop there were bugs galore, disconnects and outright server refusing to load a map. With a limited selection of maps with barely any reward for harder stuff then months of one modifier being extra dogs instead of power outages ect.
Not to mention the entire crafting system wasn’t implemented so you logged in hourly like a mobile games weapon shop to hope it had something you wanted and it wasn’t a shit weapon.
I got my worth out of the game playing and enjoying the psyker and bolt gun now I couldn’t give a single shit less as they drip feed fixes and finally put crafting in long after I got decent enough gear and burned myself out on the game.
But hey at least you could play that downgrade of a game compared to vermintide then we have this mess of bloodbowl.

They don't see it as games. They see it as 'product'. That's why they make it like a corporation do it: maximum profit with minimal effort, aka sending us a minimum viable product (sometimes not even finished one)
A true game developer would put out maximum effort in pouring their heart and soul to make the game of their passion. That's why modern triple-A game nowadays feels 'soulless' compared to indie. The former only pursue profit, the latter focused on finishing their game

Sure, it was also the generation that popularized the corporate anti-consumer practices & game design, but it's also offered us many quality games before they all became garbage live services at some point.
Now, live services, unwanted features, and gameplay-disrupting monetization are going to be and have been the default standard for which household franchises kick this disappointing generation off. A sign of things to come.

You'd think they'd learn from studios like Fromsoft, or hell, look at Indie games in general.
Actually, Hi-Fi Rush came out not too long ago and was a smash hit, and not a single macrotransaction, Battle Royale mode, BattlePass scam, single consumable costume pieces in sight and STILL made them money.
These games hit it off so well because they're *games first*, and still most corperations don't understand that nickle and diming every pixel is just a really bad idea? Watching them burn from easily fixable mistakes and never learning despite having plenty of monetary incentive to make damn fine games is.. a long but tired joke at this point. I still remember the first Blood Bowl that came out from Cyanide. It was so bugged and so poorly managed... There was this patch, for instance, that went live and apparently they forgot to turn off some kind of "debug switch" that caused all the players in the opposing team to just stay still turn after turn. So they used that switch to be able to test skills and whatnot against still players without having to worry about dodging, etc, and they just forgot to turn it off before releasing the patch... And that's just an example of the lack of care and quality of the game. Sad to see the team hasn't learned their lessons after 14 years...

That single-use customisation transaction is quite clever when you look at it through the executive's eyes.
Essentially, someone will buy their favourite item for their favourite character, and they'll think to themselves, "Ah but it's only one time so it's okay" but then they start to like how it looks, they'll want it again and for more characters.
That's where you fall; you want those items to make your team more unique, because the majority of people have become spoiled by player customisations, and you start to hate how bland and generic your team looks.
About a year later, you've probably spent nearly half a grand, maybe twice that, just on those measly cosmetics (It's not uncommon and undoubtedly not rare). Now imagine that times roughly 100,000 people (We all know it's far more than that, it's just a small example) in every country (within reason, of course, I doubt Greenland has that many Bloodbowl fans), you're looking at a nice steady flow of millions of dollars, so that's a hell of a profit.
Seems a bit far-fetched doesn't it? Well, let's take a look at one of our old, reliable culprits; Activision.
"Activision-Blizzard reported a new record all-time high of $5.1 billion in microtransaction and subscription revenue in 2021." I wonder what their revenue from 2022 looks like...
That's a lot of people forking out money for something that just gives you only the tiniest dopamine fix, but it's still enough to make you crave it again and again.
If you've made it down here this far then thanks for reading and apologies it's such a long rant, I wish I could reward you for such a hike but all I can say is, please just take it easy with the online purchases, think to yourself; "Do I honestly need this for such a broken game? What will I get out of it?" Think about what you could save up for in the future, or even the possibility that, if you refuse those microtransactions for so long, you may just change the future of gaming for the better.
Once again thanks for reading, hope you all have a grand day and next time I'll try to reduce it to a single paragraph

Destiny 2 way, way ahead of BB3's devs...Destiny 2 used to have single use shaders for colouring gear items. That changed, but unless it's also changed now, they also have/had single use 'transmat' effects since the start...spazzy effects installed into your ship that alter the way that your character spawns into a location...people have a lot of ships and once installed on a ship that transmat disappears so you can never use it elsewhere.

The thing that really breaks it for me is the always online part. Like, in time, most of the other bugs and issues could get sorted out but i doubt the always online part will go away.
I honestly had a really really low bar for BB3, all i really wanted was BB2 but with more customization... hell, i'll even give it that i'd accept dlc cosmetic packs (unlocks, not one-time uses). I'd settle with not getting anything new, even improved graphics was something i'd give a pass.
Naturally, i was going to give it a few years and wait for a big discount before i'd buy it but that doesn't matter now.

Never played any of the BB games, but this is another example of modern gaming releases. Obviously, it isn't every game that gets released in piss-poor quality with egregious monetisation practises but, as customers, fans are spending a lot of money on these products, which people are stupidly justifying the increase in prices. This is one of many reasons why I'm not as much of a gamer these days as I were about 10 years ago.

It just boggles the mind how these gacha/monetization mechanics, coupled with a rushed, bug-filled job, make for a good business plan. It doesn't, yet we keep seeing it happen year in, year out. The uproar it causes among fans and casual players should be lesson enough on what not to do, but companies seem to still make bank somehow for them to ignore it and not care. They just move on to the next scam, reputation be damned. Make it make sense.

Wasn't expecting Blood bowl 3 to be ground breaking or changing the format of gameplay since its based on a miniature game from games workshop. And the miniature game's 2nd edition wasn't very looked at fondly, lot of aspects like the elven union, recycling team players is from the miniature game. I don't mind the microtransactions, as it'll likely be 1/10 what it would cost for little doodads for games workshop miniatures. I'll likely wait later on before buying this game, like I did with Blood Bowl 2.

Just like Calisto Protocol, the problem doesn't actually seem to go away when ex-EA higher ups move onto new projects. Also Blood Bowl 2 had an offensive number of DLC packs for any game let alone a spiritual successor type one, and after having godawful performance and basically unplayable on console was just left to die. So yeah, not a new problem by any means.
