Marvel Rivals is gonna dethrone Overwatch while Overwatch continues to go further and further below. You love to see it
Which isn’t to say Marvel Rivals is our friend, either. It’s doomed to succumb to greed eventually. Seeing Blizzard squirm is worth it in the meantime, though
lets not let blizzard forget that they promised us a new 5v5 game with PvE and a story, only to back pedal and cancel PvE cancel story and bring back 6v6 AS A GAME MODE. lazy scummy company.
The main thing I won't forget is how they want your phone number just so you can play it. Are they still asking that? Because I refuse to play a game that demands my phone number.
@@dabndangle yep. They wanted to do a battle pass system because it would make them more money. I had so many legendary skins in OW1 without paying even a dime.
Blizzard pretending that Overwatch is original is cute when we all know that they just copied the Team Fortress formula and slapped an Avengers twist on it.
I played a fair bit of tf2 back in the day, and "overwatch ripped off team fortress 2" never really made sense to me. The heroes of overwatch are so much more like moba characters than the versatile and customizable classes of tf2. The classes that there are still only 9 of, as opposed to the regular releasing of entirely new heroes.
I can see skins selling well here, you can actually see them in gameplay because its third person. I never understood how people would buy skins in Overwatch where you never see your skins in gameplay since its first person.
Slightly playing devil's advocate here but I remember really liking the OW1 skins and seeing the change in animations and the look of your hands, weapons, or attacks in-game. Not saying that beats seeing the full skin 24/7 haha I think Marvel has them beat there. But I loved when Torbjorn had a inflatable hammer and it squeaked when you hit something lol, or the reload animations of certain guns changing. Little stuff like that made it feel cool or funny.
Do you guys remember when blizzard used to be run by a bunch of nerds? Same nerds that probably played DnD, read comics, played video games before it was cool? Just proves how this company is now not even in the same library, let alone the same page with its audience.
Thats how out of touch these companies are with gaming world. They know nothing about games, comics, movies. They are only corporate and hired for that reason, their downfall is imminent due to their lack of touch with their customers… you don’t hire a stylist that knows nothing about fashion culture why do you hire people to work in gaming but knows nothing about our culture!?!?
The most ironic thing is still how people thought Overwatch would kill Team Fortress 2 TF2 didn't have to do anything, Overwatch killed Overwatch. And even after the desasterous relaunch and going free-to-play, they still pull about half the numbers of a game that was released 16 years earlier.
@@HappyBeezerStudios I mean, a lot of the players on TF2 are bots, unless things got better recently? But yeah, the thing that really dragged down OW was how it kept making changes with only the MLG players in mind. Sure, shit was unbalanced as all hell sometimes, but it was still *fun.* But then they just started nerfing every character into the dirt, and every time you figured out a new character's gimmick that made you want to play them in the first place, bam- nerfed. It was a constant cycle of learning a new character, watching them get nerfed into irrelevance, and then switching to a new character and learning their ins and outs just to begin the cycle again when they got nerfed. It was such a fuckin' drag.
and the hilarious part to me is that while marvel rivals is crushing overwatch 2, the early access of path of exile 2 is doing the same to Diablo 4 at the same time. And Blizzard is similarly quite salty about it
Regarding abilities, how much different is shooting a gun from shooting a gun. That's the main thing league has with 170 champions are recycling 1 or 2 ability ideas for a new champion. A dash is a dash, shoot a gun is shoot a gun, throw a bomb is throw a bomb. It's up to the developers to makes something fresh out of the tools provided by their engine.
13:30 - Nah, the BEST case scenario would be they worked it like Helldivers 2, where you could purchase past battle passes even beyond that season, as opposed to only keeping them available if you buy them while they're available.
If we needed evidence that all people in charge of franchises and pop culture are completely ignorant to what they are selling, here it is. These CEO types are so tone deaf that they dont understand their products and audience/clientele, they just care to sell you licensed stuff without respecting the creation/creators/developers.
@@jiezzle2579 Ex Blizzard CEO embarrassingly Black Widow's name in Marvel Rivals copies Widowmaker in Overwatch. This is what the title previously was. Yes, really.
This guy wasn't even part of Blizzard until 2019, 3 years after Overwatch released. Why does he have anything to say about Overwatch OR Marvel characters? He wasn't involved in making either. On top of that he isn't even with Blizzard anymore so he has no horse in that race either.
I think it goes to show that these exces and CEO do not know anything about the IPs they manage. It’s why theyve failed so much and so hard. You need someone with an extensive knowledge to direct your company in the right path.
Bravo Blizzard. You might be writing a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you keep saying that Marvel Rivals will become an “Overwatch killer” and treat it as such… whatever happens next is on you lot.
And at this point over a month since this video Rivals has only lost 9% of its player base that is unheard of Helldivers 2 lost 30% in the same time frame
"Stupid Shit CEOs say" I'd love to see how this guy explains Black Widow's presence way back in Iron Man II and even before that when she first appeared in 1964 (Tales of Suspense #52)
I mean, donating to like an indie dev you like through patreon or something is kinda like tipping and I think that’s perfectly normal and good, but it’s clear he just wanted an excuse to pay developers less, and he’d probably be stealing their tips as well lmao
Even if you do not pay attention to the comics at all, there is at least the MCU. Black Widow herself debuted in Iron Man 2, which released in 2010. That is SIX YEARS before Overwatch launched. How this guy can be so clueless and baffling.
Because in 2024 most people don't care about facts and logic. Ibara's mistake here was to believe he still holds enough power and goodwill to have a fanbase rallying behind him and bending the truth in his favour.
Blizzard had every opportunity to give players OG Overwatch. Instead of listening to what players wanted Blizzard decided they knew better. Can't blame NetEase for coming in and satisfying a market demand.
It’s crazy to now because I believe it’s too late ,overwatch took an L on not making pve despite getting 4 years to make it so there’s them not making pve then there’s spending more time adding skins instead of making the game better lol imagine if they released 2 maps in a season imagine if they added an event/lore with a new hero of a Talon uprising with a new villain that become playable they’re just slow even with blizzards money and it’s disappointing I’ve played overwatch since season 1 they’ve made overwatch soo fine tuned into being overly competitive it lost the randomness and fun aspect that now marvel rivals has
The didnt promise too much.. They couldve done PvE with the levelling system but what they realised is they wouldnt make money of it.. Tbh they was probably never planning On doing it in the first place
@@magicplacebo2143 not too much? each skin would have had to have their own progress tree that added stuff as you levels. we see it now on the 30 dollar skins, they couldnt just give it away or make those skin for each charactor.

To be fair in his very absolute tiniest Defense: Even she was introduced to the MCU very early in Iron Man 2 but as far as i Remember she was clearly named "Black Widow" waaaaaaaay later. Most people call her by her Real Name all the Time. But jeah the Comics make it very clear and a 5 sec Google Research would be already enough.
First it was their envious dig at Path of Exile 2, now this. Blizzard knows they've lost the game, and rather than trying to improve, they're just spitefully lashing out at better competitors lmao
12:08 Sega did this many times in the early 2000s. Inc the guide arrow from Crazy Taxi "that expired a few years ago" so that no other game could use it. Instead of locking others out, it forced innovation, so that every game had to think how to guide the player without the arrow. Like a more commonly seen line on the road, or something more simple like turn singnals to show where to go

literally Widowmaker's whole persona, design, lore, skills, are obviously a direct inspiration from Black Widow: women trained to be professional assasins, snipers as primary weapon of choice, grappling hooks, flexibility, skin tight suits, literally the Widow in the name makes it the most obvious ripoff.
Its the softness of Diablo and overwatch spending more time making skins then maps and being fun Marvel rivals is fun like old overwatch and as Elon musk said Poe2 is the love child of Elden ring and Diablo

@@terrylandess6072 That's got nothing to do with the former CEO. He ain't playing the game but he sure is screwing everything up before leaving on his golden parachute.
@@terrylandess6072There are complete buffoons running the companies though, so a hell of a the blame goes to them too. They’re completely out of touch and are especially clueless regarding what fans actually want. There are countless examples of it, it’s ridiculous, stuff like EA shoving heaps of micro-transactions into Dead Space 3 and turning it into a co-op game at the expense of it being genuinely scary to play. After this resulted in the game selling poorly, despite them sinking astronomical amounts of money into the marketing, they iced the series for nearly an entire decade. Then they finally chose to bring it back with the 2023 remake of the first game, only after having seen another popular horror game do the same with excellent results. The game didn’t sell to their liking though, because their expectations are unrealistic, horror games are a relatively unpopular genre when compared to outright action, not everybody enjoys being scared, most probably don’t in fact, there really just aren’t that many horror fans, especially of more biologically feasible horror like Dead Space, as it’s cosmic horror, something much more realistic than spiritual horror. So now they’ve iced the franchise again, indefinitely so, instead of getting a gorgeous remake of the perfection that is Dead Space 2, we’re getting absolutely nothing for the foreseeable future. Their heads are shoved so far up their own asses they don’t realise the game actually sold fantastically well, they’re clueless as to how absurd their expectations are, it’s not going to sell like hotcakes the way Battlefield games do, it’s an entirely different kind of game.

if we're all talking about ripoff i should point out that even the name "Widowmaker" is a ripoff, in TF2 the Widowmaker is a shotgun for the Engineer, it itself is a bit of a call back too, i think it was a promotional item for Deux Ex Human Revolution. who's ripping off who now?
You know as a paladins fan, it makes me happy to see overwatch players go through what he had for years, fake copycat allgeations when there are non. Doesn't feel so good now does it overwatch fans to have a game you love be compared to another repeatedly through braindead takes.
Paladin charicterss were made with overwatch in mind. Rival charicters have been around longer then I've been alive is the difference to me. Paladin always feels like a worse overwatch. Rivals is fresh
Its quite good consdiering a lot of people didn't hear about this game and so didn't even know it existed, and then combine that with the fact that PoE2 early access just came out among other things.
18:25 The challenges are all like, deal/take/heal damage with specific characters and use team-up functions. They’re literally just “play the game” lol. I haven’t felt the need for a battle pass experience track so much as more frequent objectives that get me playing different heroes.
Natasha "Black Widow" Romanoff made her first comic book appearance in 1964, which means that she predates Widowmaker by several decades. So if anyone's a ripoff, it would be Widowmaker.
Rod fergusson tried to take a shot at POE2 and now Mike ybarra trying to take a shot at Marvels Rival . It just goes to show that how much these two games did damage to their existing franchises . Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 are in huge trouble if they don’t do something really drastically to bring back their player base .
there was a time CEOs kept there mouths shut and made their obscene money while smoking cigars lit with 100 dollar bills in the shadows. should we go back to that?
It used to be that a lot of the CEOs in creative fields had to work their way up. Now most of them are finance majors with no attachment to anything that isn't finance (READ: anything human.)
Nah it’s better this way. The more people that know who these greedy, out-of-touch clowns are, the better. Back in the day it was easier to hide who was effing us over on a daily basis but now they just can’t help themselves.
Nope. Let them keep saying dumb stuff in public, it makes it so much easier to remember who’s screwing us over. They just can’t help to remind everyone how out-of-touch, greedy, and useless they are.
15:40 Not EVERY individual skin, the chromas don’t have unique MVP animations …but when almost every other skin has a unique MVP animation, I think the point still stands For reference, the only skin that isn’t a chroma *AND* doesn’t have a unique MVP animation is The Punisher’s “Thunderbolts” skin in the season pass
From what I’m hearing about Marvel Rivals is that it is currently in early stage Helldivers 2. It’s a good game but it has a few major issues that if left unaddressed could cause a mass exodus like HD2 did. Hopefully they learned from HD2’s mistakes and can keep a strong momentum going.
*After they deleted Overwatch and released the inferior Overwatch 2, that was the last straw, and i stopped bothering with any of their games, including wow.* *Activision/ Blizzard are a joke.*
wow is really all they have leftat this point. HotS died, SC2 is left to rot (to the point updates are community-made), Overwatch is dead with Marvel Rivals being Overwatch except not crap, and likewise Diablo 4 is getting stomped in the dirt by Path of Exile 2. And its not that WoW is doing well, its just that it managed to remain the iconic MMO in an era where MMOs like it just dont get as popular anymore, so competition eclipsing it completely is unlikely to happen.. Again, not that Wow is doing well, far from it. Its MTX-ridden despite still needing a subscription to play, and infested with DEI and other political garbage (of the rainbow variety) to boot.
@@Captain.AmericaV1 what do you expect from a game company that still runs its MMO of a subscription system whil at the same time having paid expansions AND MTXs?

I don't care for nor know much about comics and Blizzard games because I've been more of a hermit for most of my life but even I know that Black Widow existed long before Overwatch; Are these CEO's really that stupid or are they so out of touch with reality!?
As one of the many players who loved Overwatch but stopped playing years ago, Marvel Rivals has completely revitalized my love of the genre. I'm also ecstatic that Cloak and Dagger are in the spotlight for once and other Marvel IPs that aren't as well known. I loved Cloak and Daggers story back in high school and being an adult, being able to play them in an engaging way really is incredibly fun. Ex Mercy Main, New Cloak and Dagger Main
if he didnt know who Luna Snow or Squirrel Girl are would be understandable, but Black Widow? Even if you dont read the comics, what about the MCU, Black Widow is around since Iron Man 2.
While I probably won't play it, at least not much, Marvel Rivals seems to be off to a good start and have some good plans. Let's hope they don't slide down the spiral of poor choices.
It took a decade for FPS to become a genre, they were all called Doom Clones. Patening like that would be stupid kinda like wizards of the coast rug pulling there free mechanic after years of it being implemented to the standard.

Don't forget. They only made ow2 so people thag bought ow1 couldn't keep getting lootboxes for free because you gota pay for that stuff now
The main thing I won't forget is how they want your phone number just so you can play it. Are they still asking that? Because I refuse to play a game that demands my phone number.
@@dabndangle yep. They wanted to do a battle pass system because it would make them more money. I had so many legendary skins in OW1 without paying even a dime.
Adding on to this, when they initially revealed all the PvE and story stuff during Blizzcon, they already knew they weren't going to actually do it.
Blizzard pretending that Overwatch is original is cute when we all know that they just copied the Team Fortress formula and slapped an Avengers twist on it.

Yeah, Team Fortress 2 has a lot to say about that glass house Overwatch lives in. lmfao
I think that we should really refer to hero shooters as “overwatch-likes”
I played a fair bit of tf2 back in the day, and "overwatch ripped off team fortress 2" never really made sense to me. Because they simp for that charicter. Why do you think mostly the attractive charicters get skins. Mercy, kiri, widow etc.
The skins are great but many of them are $20 plus like come on that’s about 1/3 of a full game and many people like collecting many skins

Not saying that beats seeing the full skin 24/7 haha I think Marvel has them beat there. But I loved when Torbjorn had a inflatable hammer and it squeaked when you hit something lol, or the reload animations of certain guns changing. Little stuff like that made it feel cool or funny.
Come on Blizzard. How do you do you **** up the launch of OW 2 THAT badly, and then complain about a rival (no pun intended)
For their level of ability, CEOs are not worth toilet paper, let alone money.
The company need them to fire people and put money where their ass is.
Luigi Mangione would agree with you
They killed all goodwill they had left with everything about Overwatch 2. Marvel rivals is fun and OW is not right now.
The most ironic thing is still how people thought Overwatch would kill Team Fortress 2
TF2 didn't have to do anything, Overwatch killed Overwatch.
And Blizzard is similarly quite salty about it
a buddy dragged me into marvel rivals recently. its straight up overwatch if activision had nothing to do with it.
