So when you have something of a crossover match like this, do both players have the same options for striking? For instance, would it be appropriate for the kendoka to thrust do?
I was wondering this for the naginata/kendo match as well. Would it be inappropriate for the kendoka to strike the legs in that matchup?

spb apparently the answer is “yes, it is legal”. Every naginata v Kendo match I have seen have them both wearing leg guards. The kendoka has a swing at the legs but is is always awkward since we do not have any attacks to the legs in standard modern kendo.
