I have a type 30 bayonet and theres a reason only the upper half/third is sharpened. Its meant to be a thrusting stabbing weapon. Not really used for slashing.
In cut - focused systems you still generally want to hit with the last 1/3 of the blade anyway (or at least the top half), due to the area providing the best force transfer (in general the further the better until it becomes unreasonable and only scratches the target)

I just noticed he is wearing naginata kote with a seperate finger. I wonder if that is part of tankendo or if it is just his personal selection.
